Chevrolet News:2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Reveal
ocnblu replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Chevrolet
The configurator has me all flummoxed. I am a blue and green person, but the Zeus Bronze with Pewter accessory wheels is the bomb. With the dark red interior. And I am not a red person. The orange pops. The yellow is a necessary, fitting color for it. Rapid blue with the black/blue accent interior? I WANT IT. Too many top shelf configurations! The configurator site is like permanently jammed, the world is too ready for this! I see a snarky meme over onto the Facebook calling it the "2020 Fiero". I thought the same thing, but in the best possible way. The starting price just blows my mind. -

Sounds like a strapping young buck, with all that stremf. I'm curious, is there a photo of this folded bed? -
Yes I believe that is a thing some of them do to support our ally in that war. That is what I was told by one of my customers who drives an Azera, he's a Korean War vet too. ???

Or water vapor. Heavy duty water vapor. That would rock.

Chevrolet News:2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Reveal
ocnblu replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Chevrolet
Wow, I am more than pleased with this. It still embodies what a Corvette should be... a halo car for Chevrolet. It is still a bit humble/corny/"American", with a stupendous measure of performance, and the starting price just puts icing on the cake. I was prepared to pan it as too foo-foo for a Corvette, too Euro-centric, but it wears our flag on its sleeve so proudly, and that aspect endears it to me instantly. It is one of those designs that bonds immediately to the viewer... not every vehicle is able to do that... there is an adjustment period often required. Not here. Not with me. I've already built "mine" (and I will wear that configurator out again and again), with no goofy wing to distract from that perfect ass. I hope they sell the heck out of them. I can learn a frickin' row of buttons, the buttons do not scare me. -
Should have been like a beacon in the night lol Haha... somebody's fired. That is not the hierarchy we are looking for!

I would argue that the Pinto was a better engineered car than Vega. Media ruined Pinto with the overblown fire risk situation. Pinto survived without major revisions over its entire 1971-1980 run. How many transformations did the Vega go through over that same time period, even losing its name before the Cavalier came along in 1981. GM threw all kinds of mechanical and styling revisions at it, but the die was cast with those early, egregious missteps. The Vega was way more a public betrayal. More of a forfeiture. More of a suicide pill. Gremlin was a brilliant marketing stroke by a company working on a shoestring. By necessity it had super reliable mechanicals because its parent had no money to radicalize it. The Japanese live life on a smaller scale by necessity than Americans. Everything is miniaturized. So they had no problem building a subcompact that was fully engineered. The Japanese engineered everything in an upward direction, where Americans scaled their larger stuff downward.

It is no secret that currently, the US and the world are on a CUV binge. Every niche has been explored by numerable automakers to flush out every customer. Chevrolet is no different, and who can blame them for following the market? Which brings us to the 2019 Chevrolet Blazer. Billed by Chevrolet as Camaro-inspired, nevermind the internet clamor over using a revered SUV name from the past, the Blazer could have... SHOULD have, differentiated itself from a sea of CUV appliances by simply being built on the Alpha platform... like the Camaro. A LWB Alpha Blazer would have clearly shown Chevrolet's intent to make the vehicle stand out... and tie it in irrevocably to its inspirator. It would have added value to the brand. It would have made the Blazer special. Instead, they went with the lowest common denominator. If the intent was to make it an urban, street-smart CUV... they missed a golden opportunity in the Blazer. Agree? Disagree? What do you all think?

For the 1971 model year, Chevrolet introduced the handsome, economical, fun to drive Vega in 4 bodystyles: a two-door sedan, two-door hatchback, two-door panel delivery, and two-door wagon. The stylish little car looked like the perfect little brother to the second-generation Camaro. At first blush, it was a breakthrough, (along with the venerable Pinto and unique Gremlin) a uniquely American response to the charming VW Beetle and early Toyota and Datsun subcompacts. It should have been a contender... it could have ensured GM's market supremacy, already enjoyed in the mid-and full-size classes, in the burgeoning subcompact market. But a couple of major issues killed its reputation (engine issues being paramount, lack of corrosion protection being secondary, since the Japanese subcompacts at the time were just as bad) before it could make a positive lasting impression. The Vega's problems are largely responsible for American manufacturers' cession of the subcompact market in its infancy and allowed the rise of Japanese importers. Agree or disagree? What do you all think?

GM News: GM Shelves Diesel Option for Equinox and Terrain
ocnblu replied to William Maley's topic in General Motors
Makes me laugh when surreal tries to pair the 2.0t to the diesel as if they are anywhere in the same universe. The 2.0t is for hotshoes... or even ppl who feel safer with a lot of power under their right foot. The diesel is... for ppl who prize fuel mileage and longevity over straight line scoot. Diametrically opposed customer bases. PPL on VW's Facebook page are still commenting... they'd love a TDi Tiguan. GM went through the expensive process of certifying the diesel in the US... then they did NOTHING to sell it! Stupid! -
Um sure

WHAT IF: GM had fully and properly engineered the Oldsmobile 5.7L diesel V8? Where would diesel powered vehicles be in terms of sales percentage today? I believe that Americans would have bought a lot more of them, which would have led to evolution of the technology for economy and performance. Diesel power would have owned a very large percentage of the U.S. market to this day, as it has in Europe. BUT... we all know how it was handled and were we are today. What do you all think?

That interior is simply GREAT. And I appreciate the monochrome package. I LOVE the Silver Spruce color Ford has out now, however. -
Well if you're a gym member and set foot in the locker room, you've already seen another guy's shortie antenna. But, I will post a photo if it will get past the censors.
