  1. The point is that DOHC is not superior to pushrods, it is merely an alternative. Both approaches have advantages and disadvantages in theory, but GM has demonstrated again and again that a pushrod engine can be superior to the competition when done right. And GM does it right.
  2. The response to the Blazer listing has been overwhelming. In less than 24hrs: - I've had about 8 calls - One guy has already seen it and wants to come back this weekend to drive it. - While I was showing it to him, I got another call from a guy that wants to see it later today. - I've been offered the trade of a dirt bike and an '89 Mustang GT (refused both). - Lots of "I've always liked the 2-doors" comments. Interesting, no? Here's a weird one: One guy couldn't buy it because his insurance co. wouldn't cover anything with over 150k miles! That's just stupid.
  3. There simply is zero advantage to the idea of developing a new DOHC V8, and it won't happen. Back when GM commanded a much bigger slice of the market, it made sense to do the Northstar for Caddy (if only for the snob-appeal). Right now, there is no earthly reason to do it - not even for Caddy. GM uses the pushrod V8 because it is the best engine for the job, and no one does it better than GM. DOHC as a measure of technology and sophistication is a pure red herring.
  4. That's a thought. I may do that when I have better questions to ask.
  5. If that Impala is for real, GO BUY IT! Put the Firebird idea on the shelf for a bit.
  6. I did replace the one bad mirror, but the grille wasn't in the budget. There were more things I wanted to do to it, but my situation forced my hand.
  7. Such a cool car, BP. I'm really glad that you are getting some time to enjoy it.
  8. No other new pics, it wouldn't look any different anyway (no cosmetic changes).
  9. I'd love to find a classic Airstream...
  10. Nope. And I'm not going to, unless it ends up staying around. I've been hauling stuff in it anyway, just opening the lift glass. There is zero money to do anything else right now, some stuff has to sell first.
  11. I know that the Ford units are far more common, but I'm not comfortable with them. A trailer might be a real option though. All of this is just hypothetical at best right now.
  12. No. The Vette leads in performance, you know, where it actually matters. And, you can't tell me that the ZR-1 isn't chock full of tech!
  13. Took this pic of the Blazer today, used it for the Craigslist posting.
  14. I did one search locally and found two Ford 460 units with low miles and not functional due to either the engine or trans (these were both under 60k miles). I think a Ford powertrain is out of the running.
  15. Didn't see that one - looks to have a decent body. I like the color too. I saw a '76 listed that had a very clean body but wasn't running for less than half the price. And a fairly straight '71 that was a running and driving car for less than 2k.
  16. Hard to tell much about that last one from those pics, but it already looks better than what you've been looking at. Keep looking.
  17. A bit of a blanket statement, don't you think? Getting the power to the ground has always been a separate challenge from creating it in the first place. That challenge would remain no matter the configuration of the powerplant used. The bottom line here is that it would be illogical for GM to develop an engine such as Dwight has described, and I would say that it would be highly unlikely that they would do so. The "advantages" are ephemeral, while the disadvantages are obvious and concrete. Won't happen.
  18. Backwards for any street-driven Vette. Down low is where buyers will feel the power, top-end screamers are for the track.
  19. Two interesting prospects in Sandusky, OH...

Then look through the other zillion pages. Then pick a few.
  21. Patience, Grasshopper...
  22. Not close enough, but it makes the point: http://www.cars-on-line.com/43958.html
  23. I'd bet that I can do it. It would require patience however.
  24. That's just criminal, DF!
  25. More good info, thanks.
