  1. Not really GM's fault, few of the late carb-fed engines ran well after a little age. All of the add-on junk for emissions ruined them via the hoses and leaks. EFI was a real godsend - cleaned the engine compartments right up.
  2. Yup. All that extra plumbing almost guaranteed vacuum leaks. Seems to me EFI coming on the scene coincided with really stinky cat converter smells...
  3. Almost happened to a V10 Dodge Ram a friend owned in '95 after he got it stuck in a field - somehow we put the fire out.
  4. ...about other automotive issues associated with certain decades. Anyone remember the early days of clearcoat paint? How about all the peeling Neons early on? Or the bare Galvanized cowls of Ford Pickups in the 70s? Maybe the rotten egg smell of catalytic converters in the late 80s and early nineteies? Discuss.
  5. One of the originals was next to us at a vintage race - deafening even at idle.
  6. I think Ohio was the rusty car capital of the world back a few decades - the worst rust I ever saw was on cars with Ohio plates. Though Maine was pretty bad too...
  7. That '73 re-style of the Nova tail light panel was a disaster for rust, and it was about the time of the Japanese steel fiasco.
  8. I remember many a patched Aspen and Volare. Bondo was a big seller in the 70s.
  9. As far as the rust issue goes for back then, the short answer is that everything rusted much moreso than today. There were, however, worse than average offenders. Notable among them: Vega Pinto All Japanese cars All domestic cars made with Japanese steel (was a big scandal back then) And as much as I loved them: all Internationals
  10. Steady flow of e-mails about the Blazer tonight, since I posted my "catchall" listing. A few calls as well.
  11. Sounds good to me! Sorry for the hijack, Oldsmoboi.
  12. Now that's just evil...
  13. I got that, but it sure struck me funny...
  14. Just an aside, but I believe that the Oracle of Delphi was female...
  15. The 70s were a decade of massive change and upheaval in the auto industry. The cars reflected that reality and ran the gamut from what would become priceless legends to abject embarassments - and everything in between. Like I said, you need to be specific when talking about 70s cars.
  16. The company contracted by GM to do the Typhoon and Syclone.
  17. The worst thing about the Pinto and the Vega was rust - really, really, bad rust that showed-up early in the life of the car. As for a sweeping generalization of '70s cars being bad, umm no, not even close. You need to be very specific when criticizing cars from that decade.
  18. That part really doesn't bother me, I've met some interesting characters that way.
  19. "when they go home at night, their fat and psychopathic wives would thrash them within inches of their lives..." I was in High school when The Wall was released...
  20. Just about sums it up.
  21. I shouldn't have looked...
  22. Why? Just curious. I can understand why you might not want to buy one, but I don't get "never be caught dead in a Camaro" bit. Don't you think it might be fun to cruise around in one for a day? OTOH, I can see why many people might feel that way about a Spark or similar car.
  23. I like that plan!
  24. I think I'll try using our galleries here, if nothing else maybe it will draw a few people to the site. I'm a bit burned-out on it all just now, so I may wait until tomorrow to get it done.
