  1. This is the key! And it could have been GM's strength, only they were large enough to tailor a car to each need. And now they've blown that advantage. EDIT: BTW, I love the classic SNL reference.
  2. Warrantys are nice, but aren't really a factor in the decision for me.
  3. Great stories! In about 1985, I worked for a landscape nursery that stored some outdoor furniture inventory in a number of local barns. In one of these barns (full of holes and pidgeon crap, and falling down) was a Packard like yours except it was a sedan. The barn was in such bad shape, that the car was literally falling through the floor at the time. I don't know what happened to the Packard, but the barn was razed a while back.
  4. Hmmm. Well... Couple of things: - The "no trucks" rule is because I already spend a serious percentage of my life in the Silverado. And that truck will be around until at least 2015. - I do have a soft spot for the HHR Panel - but even if I lifted the "no-GM" ban, it would still be wrong-wheel-drive. That's not something I'm prepared to accept - especially in a car I'd buy simply because I want one. The truck is what I have to own - anything else has to be something I want. That said, test drives are fun so I would flog just about anything around the block once. - As for new cars, they have a separate(but equally powerful) appeal for me than do old cars. It's just a matter of what floats my boat at the time. For example, I would never buy a sedan, or minvan, or any such plebian vehicle new. The GTO and the Firehawk, and the El Camino SS, are the only sort of non-work truck purchases I am ever likely to make in new form. The notion of financing some little econoturd requires a state of mind that I will never be in. As of right now, only the Camaro, Challenger, and Mustang even come to the table with the right stuff for serious consideration - and none of them have made a compelling enough case yet to make me want to pay the new car premium vs. getting a good deal on a year-old example. The car and the timing have to be just right for me to make that leap. Such was the case with the Firehawk, GTO, and Camino. Before my hopes were dashed, there was simply no doubt in my mind that the ST was going to be my next new purchase. Simply put, nothing has yet taken its place in my heart. And my heart is what I buy new cars with.
  5. Congrats, BV! Be happy, you've gotten the deal of the year.
  6. The thing no one is considering here is that without Pontiac, Buick and GMC have no reason to live. The whole concept of BPG will be tossed out along with the Arrowhead. The entire strategy of killing Pontiac is fataly flawed.
  7. The answer is, it isn't. And it never will be.
  8. That depends on what they actually do. The notion of a bunch of cars that are a fusion of sedan, suv, and minivan, just turns my stomach. If that's the plan, count me out.
  9. I tire of this. Suffice it to say, that if the "prevailing wisdom" in this thread prevails, I have no more reason to care about GM.
  10. That is certainly a glowing review! Well done, Camaro team!
  11. I think you guys know what I think...
  12. Actually Satty, that really is the plan. I won't be buying anything for some time, so I might as well drive a bunch of things. The main motivation for that is non-GM dealerships are new turf for me, so I'd like to familiarize myself with what they have to offer. I usually research and check out a possible purchase for more than a year before I'm ready to pull the trigger - and this time it may take quite a bit more time than that. There is always the slim chance that GM will actually build something I want rather than taunting me with it only to yank it away at the last minute, but I'm not holding my breath. I intend to deprive them of at least this one sale for what they have done. They will have to perform some sort of miracle to change that.
  13. In that case, Buick and GMC will be right behind Pontiac on the trip into history. Stupid.
  14. That should be right on the title itself, which you won't have if the lien isn't already satisfied.
  15. Oh I agree about the Viper, but noithing matches the look of the first gen. I'll take mine in blue GTS form, thanks.
  16. Woof If I win the lottery, Viper and ZR-1 become possible. I would cave for a ZR-1. Ford GT would also be in my sights. Viper would lose because I love the first one more.(I think)
  17. You've all heard the plans for the Camino, but other than that, I don't plan any mods. The truck is fine like it is. I just want the Wagon and Mothertruck completed. And the Jag needs a new home.
  18. Good idea! I do intend to drive a Camaro SS as well. (but that doesn't mean anything)
  19. You know I love the old stuff, but I think I'll leave the Caddies to you. I will always mess with old cars, but I know myself well enough to be fairly certain that a new car is still in my future. Thing is, I bide my time until one really makes me happy.
  20. All true. But it really isn't what I'm looking for. I want something that is a major switch from the truck. I loved getting out of the truck at the end of the day and enjoying the comfort and performance of the GTO and the Hawk. That's what I want the next one to provide.
  21. Maybe go cheap with a Jeep? Nah, can't quite see it.
  22. Sadly, there is nothing on that list I'd want. Even BMW is now a letdown in the looks department in addition to costing too much.
  23. Love how you slipped that last one in there. Rest assured I will get what I like, and like what I get. There is no other reason for me to buy a new car.
  24. I love this thread.
