  1. Even if Firebird ever returns (unlikely), Trans Am will not.
  2. That is just so wrong. Maybe I'd consider it at 1k, but certainly not 10k ! Way to devalue a classic, you twit!
  3. Thanks Z, that's the kind of specific info I'm looking for!
  4. Thanks for that link, I just spent the last 3.5 hours reading about that guy's resto project! Just wow!
  5. Thanks for all of the input- keep it coming! I have very little direct experience with painting, although I have been around it quite often over the years. Everything that I have had painted has involved at least some prep/disassembly/ re-assembly on my part with lots of questions asked. What I don't have is an understanding of the current state of the art in equiptment, supplies, paint and techniques. I am on a serious learning curve with this, but I intend to understand it and get it right as I think that I'll be painting quite a few cars in the coming years. Thanks again to everyone for the help.
  6. Here it is:
  7. Looks like a flood car.
  8. I've done the "driveway" paint job thing (with decent results) but I want this to be a bunch better without a full, permanent booth. I expect a bunch of sanding and polishing time to get the results I'm after without a state-of-the-art booth. And, I'll need to build it myself to as high a standard as I can manage.
  9. For now, all of the niceties will have to be approximated. I don't own the building and won't be doing any work for anyone else - so outrageous expenses aren't possible. I will have some sort of heat in the barn, but no specific booth controls. We're talking plasric sheeting and 2x4s here, with a big fan, cheap ductwork and a/c filters. At least that's what I'm thinking. I do plan on a very high quality respirator though.
  10. To start with, I want to build a booth which can be taken down and stored when not in use. It will also need to be cheap. I have the room to do this inside the barn and would also fabricate some sort of filtration system. I guess what I really need is the current prefered equiptment and practices as I haven't messed with painting since I was teenaged. I want to have a grip on this before I get to the 'Camino. The wagon should be the last one I pay someone else to paint if I can figure this out. The Mothertruck would be my "test run" vehicle with the Camino as the "proof of concept". Hell, I might even do the Jag if I can't sell it as is.
  11. With my habit of doing project cars, I am feeling the need to do my own body and paint work. The stumbling block for my projects always seems to be dealing with the bodyshop - either they don't get to it, don't get it, or cost way too much. I'm thinking that the answer may be to do it myself, so I'm looking for any and all input on the subject. I have a huge commercial compressor, but I need to convert it from 3-phase electric to 220 in order to run it here. There may be another alternative compressor in the mix as well (brand new and never used). Years ago, my Dad bought a Binks #7 paint gun but I'm not sure where that is now. I want the paint on my cars to be outstanding, so what do I need, and need to know?
  12. Of course. That's why I said "hands down". Also, the GTO is a much more refined car. I fully expect the G8 to trounce the Charger in all categories. (Stupid name notwithstanding) Chrysler always took a back seat to Ford and GM as far as sales went, even back then. Everyone wants the new Challenger because it is a beautiful design on a powerful car. The pent-up demand for a real performance (RWD) coupe from Chrysler has been pent-up much longer than that same demand from GM and Ford. Chrysler has been sooo long without a car like this that any name or bodystyle they could have picked from that era would get a similar reaction. I'm glad that they picked their best bodystyle ever (IMO) to re-do. Too bad it can't be a 'Cuda.
  13. I'm so bloody tired of sedans, it's great to see a new RWD coupe with nice lines. I wouldn't be caught dead in a Subaru and have always thought that the Charger was very, very, ugly. Interesting to note that a WS6 ( not the highest performance variant of the T/A BTW) still has an edge on the SRT8 five model years after production ended. GTO vs. SRT8? No contest: GTO hands down!
  14. I couldn't fault anyone for buying a Challenger, though I prefer the Camaro. I'm just so happy that the choice exists.
  15. Interesting thread. "Democracy is the worst form of government - except for all the rest"
  16. Might have to check out the Jersey event.
  17. Fingers crossed, Bimmer. :AH-HA_wink:
  18. Thanks for all the posts, everyone! I feel better already (and spent some time chuckling thanks to the humor in your responses).
  19. I could use it.
