I figured something was up with the silver Firebird in your signature, and no Achieva in sight. I also wanted to wait for you to post the story on your own, and what a great story it was (though sad in some ways). As a former owner of a '95 Pontiac Trans Am with T-tops, I sure do admire your new car. I gotta say though - grandma-ish or not, that '92 Ninety-Eight would have been a nice car to own too (and our friend, 98 Rgency, would have definitely approved of that purchase). I'm glad you found your way back to C&G... a lot of the old timers are gone or don't publicly show themselves. I know you'll treat your Firebird very well, seeing as how you took care of the Achieva all of these years. What are your plans, if any, for the Poncho?

I have often said that I like the sedan over the hatchback model, but this shot has me rethinking that statement: I really like that red, and the Sedan now looks frumpy to me The wife fell in love with the upcoming 2013 Chevy Spark at the Philly Auto Show in February (it was shown in Techno Pink). She wants to consider leasing one this summer for work commuting. I am more of a fan of the Sonic and have been unsuccessful in swaying her mind. We'll be at the NYIAS in about two weeks, so we'll see what comes of that (she'll be able to sit in the Sonic, and it would be nice for her to be able to sit in the Spark for comparison).

Re: Terrain/Equinox shortages - I was at the Buick-GMC dealership on Saturday getting the G6's brake pads replaced. While waiting I was talking with the Sale Manager I personally know and he said that he believes that the cause of the 4-cylinder shortage is due to the steering supplier, as the 4-cylinders use a non-hydraulic variable electric assist power sterring system that the supplier can't make enough of right now. He was unaware of the restriction to order the 4-cylinder engines due to engine shortage/supply issues. They have a ton of 4- and 6-cylinder Terrain models on the lot, so I don't think he's too worried. The salesman my step-son bought his '98 Regal from said that the extra $1,000 incentive on the V6-equipped models has definitely aided sales this month. Re: Ford Edge & Escape - my neighbor/friends are "Ford people" and the wife has been pining to replace her 2005 Freestyle with an Edge Limited the past couple of years (job loss for her husband in 2008 and the potential that still exists for her job have caused them to re-evaluate their spending needs). She wants the Edge but can't afford the model/equipment she wants - they are now interested in the new '13 Ford Escape because she said she can get what she wants (equipment) for $10,000 less than a comparable Edge. Here's one I took, that I'd appreciate feedback on: I realize it's kind of "close up", but I was in a junkyard and I couldn't back up far enough without going into a vehicle behind me.

Well, my finances have never recovered to the levels they were pre-2009 layoff, and the 2010 layoff hurt even more (no time for recovery). I check on the '87 GP at least every three months, just for peace of mind I do hope that when the day comes when the owner wants to part with it he'll be happy with what I have in my little nest egg (assuming it neither grows or disappears) based on the fact that the car will remain as he has kept it the past 25 years going forward with me as its new owner. However I don't see that happening any time soon

Again, thanks for taking the time to post the historical GMC photos from your great uncle's collection, hyperV6. That is very kind of you to take on this effort for our enjoyment. I don't think we could call this the first Syclone, but it's pretty darn close to what our modern day sport trucks look like!!

Now that I've posted that, in hindsight if I bought it and stored it somewhere, saving $$$ in the process for mechanical and restoration work, it might be a good thing. Too bad there are no pictures of the interior or details about the amount of rust.

Tempting, very tempting... but having no storage space, no mechanical skills or the extra $$$ for parts/labor, it would be a money pit regardless of the low entry price.
