  1. Isnt that the truth? Make them pay to fix it too.
  2. I am so glad to hear it is back. They wouldnt fool me though in saying it was a 1986. The 1986 has regular headlights and the climate control-radio is still silver from 1985 not woodgrain like the 1987 and later is. When I see an ad and see these sorts of mistakes it makes me suspicious. When the seller cant even get the year right makes me wonder. I hope they fry these people who stole it.
  3. Congrats Cort. I was a GREAT uncle on March 19th. At 32.
  4. Too bad there are the issues with it because it looks pretty darn good. Still would be a good one to do a restoration on for the right person. Like I said, the carburetor is the root of most of your problems.
  5. Good luck with getting the car back. I dont know where all the VIN codes are. Never looked at mine that close. I know the one on the dash. I thought there was one in the trunk somewhere along with the paint codes. Make sure these shiot for brains get thrown in jail for a long time. Bastards!!!!
  6. I dont take what Consumer Reports says too seriously.
  7. There is a brown mone of those around here. I saw it last summer. That one though was in nearly perfect condition.
  8. You wouldnt go wrong with an Aveo. My Mom has a 2007 with about 6000 miles on it and she loves it. Even got in a little fender bender and it is now fixed with no problems. She has not had to bring it back for anything but an alignment (I think she touched a curb a bit hard). It rides nicely handles well is good on gas and my 300 pound body actually fits in it. I may get one myself when the lease is up on the Equionox next March. The fuel mileage so far is right on with what the sticker says. For me it performs well around town but loses steam on the highway though it does hold 70 mph pretty well.
  9. I live in Kaukauna Wisconsin. 20 miles south of Green Bay and about 10 miles east of Appleton.
  10. I was tempted to do that with the Bonneville a few times while trying to get the carburetor to work well on it. It still has a vacuum leak somewhere that it has always had. You are lucky not to have to worry about rust. These are the 2 old ones I have. But I dont drive them in snow if I dont have to.
  11. Why not buy Blackvipers Cutlass and fix the things wrong with it by the time your son is ready to drive. I am sure just a new carburetor would do the cutlass wonders. I dont understand why these carcuretors are so problem prone. Although mine on the Bonneville turned out to be a sticking float because somebody didnt put the spring in right. The truck might be an option if fuel economy isnt a real concern. The 70's muscle car is a viable option again if fuel economy isnt much of a concern. I am not much for Civics after seeing the sheetmetal on one. One little scrape and the whole front end will be wiped out. Plus in your case I think you would understand a lot better how to fix a GM product. And GM parts for what you are looking at are very inexpensive compared to a Civic. But thats just my opinion. My first was a 1981 Caprice 2-door with the 229 V6. Not perfect but good and it got me around in high school quite well. Just as an example.
  12. As for the leak by the passenger floor, is the windshield sealing good? If so something I was told to do with the Bonneville because that could sometimes be a problem is the run a bead of clear silicone cauck around where the blower motor sits on the plastic A/C case. Sometimes it leaks in there I was told. I did that but havent had time to test the result.
  13. Why not look to the aftermarket. There are heater hose heaters and lower hose heaters also. The factory ones use one of the frost plugs.
  14. Awww geee. None of my cars are on there. Though I suppose the lawn tractor doesnt qualify. I wonder what the 2 old ones would have been on had they did such a thing back then?
  15. I am the same way Camino. And it does get warm in Wisconsin. I will have the A/C working in the 2 old ones by the time the hot weather hits. I wont buy a car without it. If it has it but it doesnt work we can talk. But if it doesnt have it at all then forget it.
  16. Paid $115 for the Bonneville. Nothing for the Caprice.
  17. You bought an old car and expected it to have the reliability of a new one. Doesnt happen. I say that with plenty of experience. Though I have to say the 2 that I have havent had some of the problems your Cutlass has. But they do have things come up that need attention. Cant get away from it. I will admit to being lucky to have something new for when something is wrong with the 2 old ones. I dont hear the amount of hate for the Mazda that I do for the Cutlass nevermind the Cutlass is driving and the Mazda isnt.
  18. I am lucky my two arent like that. The Bonneville leaks in the trunk through the rain gutters if you call them that between the filler piece between the back window and the trunk and the rear fenders. I caucked it for now but I will have to do something more drastic in due time.
  19. I hope to god they find it. I would likely have a heart attack if either one of the old ones was stolen.
  20. A thousand dollars doesnt get you much. You might get lucky but dont count on it.
  21. Who the heck would want a car without A/C? The dealer here had a couple of Aveos equipted this way. Took them forever to sell them. Sounds like a weird pricing scheme to me.
  22. From the pictures the interior on Corts is a lot better than the green one. But for the right price the green one can be fixed up to be like new. I would say if the mechanicals pass the test and there isnt hidden body rust and leaks I would do it. It is in good shape. Cort does yours have any body rust? Hard to tell from your pictures.
