  1. I would rather have the 2 I have than something from the 50's and 60's or earlier. They are much easier to live with if you have to for a daily driver. But they are still classic RWD V8. That is a nice Olds wagon though even though that body style was a rustbucket around here so you dont see them vary much. And I feel FWD has a place in history also.
  2. I have had good luck with the Olds 307 in my 1981. Mine leaks a tiny bit of oil through the valve covers but it is only a drop here or there. It has 116,700 miles on it and it doesnt burn a drop of oil. Never have to add oil between changes. The transmission will go before the engine does if its like mine. It should go for a long time. Remember the oil fill is in the front of the engine not on the vavle cover like a Chevy is.
  3. With Culvers here? The only one I bother with once in the great while is the mushroom and swiss. Otherwise why pay the same as culvers or more and get way less quality?
  4. You all trust Craiglist? After the stories I hear about stolen property being sold there? No way.
  5. In. But if you get a piercing there and you get hit by lightning it will pop out. Thats important because the more piercings you have the more likely you are of being struck by lightning.
  6. It will be cool to get another one of these. People always diss the late 70's and early 80's GM cars but I like them better than most any GMs out there. Though I do like most of the new stuff. I dont really get into the 50's and 60's too much though a friend does has a nice 1963 Impala. I find the late 70's and 80's ones easier to live with on a daily basis if the need comes.
  7. I remember seeing one of these at one time. Dont know what happened to it.
  8. Culvers by far though calling it fast food is a bit of a stretch. At least there is quality to their stuff and it hasnt been sitting under a heat lamp. Making me hungry for a double cheeseburger.
  9. Too bad you couldnt havve grabbed the cane. Smacked him a little with it. and a time or two right in the area. Stupid idiot.
  10. The series fanale told that. They took the house with them. Also a good luck from me with the new 1979 Monte Carlo. May the ride back be uneventful. It may seem redundant to have 2 1979s but the brown one has the 305 yet. Right? It will still be a nice experience to get it. People look at my 2 and think they are the same car. Yes they are but they dont really drive the same.
  11. Wilson did had a niece named Willow. Though we have to remember the Taylors moved to Indiana so maybe they wouldnt know Wilson had died.
  12. The G-bodies and the B-bodies were nice back then. I l.ike that you didnt chop the Monte Carlos body to make it into a racing car. I always thought the G-bodies and B-bodies of the 1980's were the point where they were modern enough to live with daily and still had the ood fashioned RWD and BOF and the choices of V8 engines even though the engine choices werent all that powerful.
  13. I forgot about Wilson dying. Maybe somebody to replace him? I dont know if the rider needs a 454 because 18 horses were enough to cut the field in bacl and it also is able to pop a little bit of a wheelie. I let the clutch out a bit too fast in 3rd and raised the front wheels about 2 inches. I sure loved Home Improvment. One of the last good TV shows to come out. Al is also funny in his own way.
  14. I dont get up in time to eat breakfast but I sure like the breakfast sausages that I get from Heans meats. Along with eggs and some hash browns. Cooking isnt a problem for me though I do like going to one of the local places for a full breakfast.
  15. Working harder in high school. There was a 1985 Olds Delta 88 that only had 29,000 miles at the local dealer once. Couldnt afford it at the time. I have no luck with women and I dont really know what it is that turns them away.
  16. I use Armor-all or something similar on my 2 and they look like brand new. Both of them.
  17. I wonder if Muntz in Appleton has ever did a stereo that way? I have Circuit City and they have always did me well but Muntz is more specialized in stuff like this. Might be better to let them do it. I dont have a lot in my glove box. I shall have to look at my trans dipstick but I was told mine has the 700-R4 when dad had it rebuilt. Mine also has the 4 barrel carburetor yet which works surrisingly VERY well. Havent had problems with the gas tank or sender yet. I needed a cycling switch for the A/C and the high speed blower relay on mine but that was it. Might see about new spark plugs before it gets cold again. I think now the Bonneville is going to need a high seed relay soon. Had to coax it to work on high. If ever the lower 3 fan speeds with but not high check that. Itsa $10-$12 part.
  18. I can do wiring work(adding outlets) minor projects and car mechanic work if the need comes. I will let you all in on a secret. Just because a house is new doesnt mean that there is no work to be done. I find things to do all the time. One thing I have been really working on is using flourescent lights and fixtures where it makes sense to do so. 4 foot shop lights quickly replaced the regular bulbs in the basement.
  19. The choke probably just needs adjusting Cort. Seemed like in those days they adjusted the choke to come off as quickly as possible. Problem is that if you go to far with that kind of thinking it makes the car want to stall while it is warming up. Also make sure your Thermac is working right. If the door in the tube leading to the air cleaner sticks open and doesnt close when its cold it will suck cold air while it is warming up causing it to stumble and also it wont warm up as fast causing poor fuel economy. Just a few things to think about. Another question not related to this, does the 305 in the '76 ping at all or is it pretty quiet. Thats was a horrible problem on the 1979 Impala I had with the 305 and also on Mom and Dads 1978 Impala with that motor. Not a problem on the 1985 Caprice since that has a knock sensor. Capriceman, are you sure yours has a 200-4R? My 1985 has the 700-R4. Mine gets about 15-16 town and 23-24 highway. I should replace the spark plugs in it though before winter comes again. Mine is bone stock just as it came from GM in December of 1984. Did you get your all fixed from when it got stolen? I would like to replace the radio in mine with something modern but I hate to see that part of the dash get cut up. I understand that the climate control-radio are one piece. Am I right?
  20. Knightfan, I wonder why the '76 gets worse mileage than the '72? Even though the 305 is in the '76 instead of a 350. Though the 305 isnt as different in that respect from a 350 as people would like us to believe. For the record this is generally what mine get. 1985 Caprice with the 305 Chevrolet V8 and 4-speed auto. About 15 town and maybe 22-23 highway. 1981 Bonneville with the 307 Olds V8 and 4-speed auto. About 16 town and about 23-24 with an occasional 25 highway. 2005 Equinox with the 3.4 liter V6 5-speed auto. About 17 town and about 24 highway. 2007 Sears lawn tractor with the 18 hp Briggs and Stratton OHV. Havent tested that, but I will let you all know what it comes up with. As you can see they all arent hugely different. The Bonneville has always been that little bit better in that respect than the Caprice though the Caprice scoots a little bit quicker too.
  21. Look at me. I own 2 large GM b-bodies and am not about to part with either. Been driving both of them pretty regularily too. Nobody better try telling me that I cant drive them or do things to try to keep me from driving them as much as I want.
  22. Yeah but it is nice to enjoy it for now. I for one would NEVER take pleasure in others misery. :AH-HA_wink:
  23. Good God. $99 just for a computer check. Glad I havent had to have that done to either of mine.
  24. I havent lost my grandmother on my Moms side ( The one on Dads side died before I was born) but my sympathy is with you all the way. The loss of my Dad suddenly to cancer last summer is something that is still a hard thing for me to talk about. Seeing him dead in his hospital bed in the old house is something I still have a tough time coming to terms with. Again Cory my sympathies are with you.
  25. I guess we cant have everything. :AH-HA_wink: Wonder if you could gear it to go that fast? Probably not with a 18 horse motor. Tim Taylor to the rescue!!!!!!!!!!!!!
