  1. The photo is stock from GM's media archive. Oh yeah - Any Aura buyers or those who were interested in the Aura could slide right into this car and be very happy with it.
  2. I think the target market for the base Regal isn't going to be "us". It's designed for people who want to grow up a bit from their Jetta/'02 Passat/G6/Fusion/Mom's Camry but still want decent fuel economy. It's only EPA rated 1mpg less on the highway than the CC, but again I think it will beat it's highway rating without any attempts to hypermill it. I don't think the engine is light off the line at all, as I said, throttle tip in is very nice and at suburban/city speeds, it feels more like a small 6 instead of a 4-cylinder. The only time I really wished for more was an uphill onramp. No, the car doesn't feel heavier than any general mid-sizer out there. (I haven't driven a Sonata) Ride is definitely firmer than your typical family sedan. I haven't gotten a chance to throw it around yet, but steering is very responsive in my short time driving it so far.
  3. Has CSpec found a topic in which he and I agree completely!?
  4. Wasn't that 4-cylinder Porsche a boxer engine though? Those have different vibration characteristics.
  5. I've actually had to purchase it 3 times because I keep destroying the CD somehow. Steam to the rescue, never have to purchase it again!
  6. I wouldn't call the 2.4 underpowered at all in this application, it's simply sufficient. Throttle tip in is aggressive and when you're just bopping around town, it feels like there is more engine under the hood than there really is. It's only under full throttle do you realize "hey! this isn't a 6!" At a drag race, yes a Toyota Camry V6 will win, but in every day driving this 4 cylinder is rather nice. Also, I bet it'll beat it's EPA highway fuel economy of 30mpg in the real world; 65mph with the cruise on was registering 34-36mpg
  7. :-P I still play it all the time

  10. Far too many variables to give a serious answer. Am I expanding an existing right of way? Am I just rebuilding existing lines with welded rail and concrete ties? Am I going for full electrification or will we be using the current diesel design? Basic double track freight line is $1m per mile when starting from barren land. Concrete ties add another $500k per mile Electrification adds $5m per mile, but allows much higher top speeds Bridges, tunnels, etc, add to cost substantially.... and since you can't have grade crossings with high speed rail, roads sometimes have to be moved or underpasses created. When all is said and done, you're looking at $9m-$12m per mile electrified depending on terrain. As a point of reference, standard 4-lane highway is about the same per mile until you throw in interchanges. One interchange alone can be $30 million. For $400m in Ohio, lets pretend we'll be using an abandoned right of way for a slight discount (there are lots) and we'll use diesel instead of electric and aim for an average cruise speed of 110mph. Cost per mile would probably be in the $4m - $8m range including bridges and such. Which means you'd get 50 to 100 miles for your $400 million. However, $400 million was just what the feds were kicking in. Ohio was going to have to kick in money too.
  11. I think we need to clarify our definition of Highspeed Rail. 79mph is not high speed rail... as such, I'm not sure how the Madison Milwaukee line qualified for funding. 79mph is actually fairly standard speed for most of Amtrak.
  12. yes I did, just a busy few days.... we'll work something out
  13. and especially cutting weight
  14. Regal will be joining C&G for an interactive review this afternoon. :-)

  16. “What's good for GM is good for America” used to be just a slogan. It might even have been true.

  19. Porsche's October Sales Up Over 60 Percent New Cayenne Enjoys Best Month of 2010 ATLANTA, November 2, 2010—Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA), importer and distributor of Porsche sports cars, Cayenne SUVs and the Panamera Gran Turismo in the United States, today announced October sales in the U.S. of 2,647 units compared to the same month last year when it sold 1,642 new cars, an increase of 61 percent. This represents Porsche’s second-best sales month this year. October’s strong showing pushed Porsche’s year-to-date results to 20,337 cars compared to the same period in 2009 when it sold 15,952, up 27.5 percent. Nearly all models in Porsche’s portfolio enjoyed increases during the month of October. Leading the way was the new Cayenne SUV, which saw sales of 1,139 units for the period – its best single-month total this year. The Cayenne’s October results demonstrate a strong and positive consumer response to Porsche’s next-generation SUV, which first went on sale in June with the Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo models. In September, Porsche expanded its SUV line-up with the launch of the all-new 2011 V6 Cayenne, and yesterday the company began selling its new Cayenne S Hybrid. Sales of the automaker’s popular Panamera also recorded strong sales results for the month of October with 747 units sold. Year-to-date, Porsche has sold 6,312 Panamera models. While the overall sports car sector continued to be challenged by the weak confidence in the U.S. economy, Porsche enjoyed some relative success. Porsche’s mid-engine Boxster roadster recorded robust sales of 140, an increase of 36 percent for last October, while the German company’s iconic 911 sports car recorded sales of 528, on par with the same period in 2009 when sales were 539. In addition, dealers sold 565 Porsche Approved Certified Pre-Owned cars in October versus 546 for the same period last year.

  23. Volkswagen Of America Announces 17.9% Increase over prior year's October sales 20,084 Products Sold, led by the all-new Jetta HERNDON, Va. — Volkswagen of America, Inc. today reported that October 2010 marked a 17.9 percent increase over prior year sales for their entire line of vehicles. The all-new Volkswagen Jetta sold 5,464 in its first full month of sales, the best non-Cash for Clunker sales month for Jetta since 2005. In addition to the Jetta, Volkswagen's Routan, Golf and GTI models also had increases in sales compared to October 2009. The Routan sold 1,103 units, a 64.9 percent increase from the same month last year. The Golf achieved a 65.7 percent increase and the GTI a 58.7 percent increase compared with the same time period in 2009. Consumers committed to purchasing more fuel efficient vehicles helped Volkswagen's popular TDI clean diesel models achieve its second best sales month of the year with 5,093 total sales, or 25% of Volkswagen's total volume. "Volkswagen continues to grow sales in all models and products through October," said Mark Barnes, Chief Operating Officer, Volkswagen of America, Inc. "It is good to see the all-new Jetta getting off to such a promising start and our TDI products to continue to do well." Volkswagen of America, Inc. Founded in 1955, Volkswagen of America, Inc. is headquartered in Herndon, Virginia. It is a subsidiary of Volkswagen AG, headquartered in Wolfsburg, Germany. Volkswagen is one of the world’s largest producers of passenger cars and Europe’s largest automaker. Volkswagen sells the Eos, Golf, New Beetle, New Beetle convertible, GTI, Jetta, Jetta SportWagen, Passat, Passat Wagon, CC, Tiguan, Touareg and Routan through approximately 600 independent U.S. dealers. All 2010 Volkswagens come standard-equipped with Electronic Stabilization Program. This is important because the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has called ESC the most effective new vehicle safety technology since the safety belt.
