  1. Platinums seem to be sensitive to the type of ignition being run. They tend to work best with modern electronic ignition. The Torondo has an HEI, but I don't know if that's ok with the platinums. The job was easy enough to do that I don't even mind just swapping them out every 12k if it needs it, if that's what keeps it running smooth. Edit: Apparently what I removed were A/C Delco Rapid fire platinum plugs - whatever.. they weren't rapid firing enough for my taste.
  2. The thing is, a lot of stuff on this car is still original. These plugs just seem very old from the outside. I didn't bother to check the gap on them. I'm just happy it starts right away on the first twist now, runs smoother, and has a better spring in it's step.
  3. I replaced the plugs today. I'm guessing these haven't seen the light of day since 1981. Not too bad for what could be 90k miles. I replaced them with NGK Iridiums - supposedly they are able to fire with 5,000 volts less than a normal plugs which gives them a more reliable spark. I immediately notice that it starts a lot easier and when driving it's a lot more ready, willing, and able, especially highways speed. 75 mph is now effortless instead of a bit of a struggle.
  4. Just a few hours left to vote!
  5. I know that a Cutlass Coupe cost more to insure than a civic back in the day....
  6. The Sonata for U.S. consumption is built in the U.S.
  7. Sorry Balth, Lexus in the 90s partially got where they are today by using the I6 from the Supra in the GS. Once they took the I6 out, the GS lost all of it's cred. Who cares if it even turns 6,500 rpm if it gets you to 80 at 3,000?
  8. The Suzuki Verona had a transverse mounted I6. Look how great that sold.
  9. because they know they could never afford the insurance on one.... and if Daddy is buying, they'd rather have a CPO 3-series for the same price.
  10. My first Chevy was an Oldsmobile My first Chevy that was actually a Chevy was an '83 Caprice V6
  11. Wouldn't that small leak allow coolant out as well?
  12. Is there still and issue with the intake manifold bolts?
  13. The difference here may be the country of origin. While Korea does care about "honour", they don't get suicidal over it like the Japanese do...... therefore I think it's unlikely we'd see a "deny and deflect" campaign the likes that Toyota and Mitsubishi put on if there were to be a large flaw with one of the Hyundais.
  14. You guys who entered are allowed to "campaign" if you want.
  15. Which is what I was getting at. More torque available at a lower RPM also gives the feeling of being more powerful.

  19. Dwight, I've been schooled by experts in engine technology, like my friend who posted just previous to me, that torque doesn't matter, So why should I want an engine that makes more torque if it means I have to run 91 through it instead of 87? Reg, it's a rework of the existing 3.6 with additional technology and more aggressive power tuning. It's not a whole new engine.
  20. don't you drive it all year?
  21. And at the end of the day... it's still a Hyundai. You don't think VW or Acura can match the build quality of Hyundai? Exactly what have you been smoking and when are you dropping some off at my house?
  22. Well crap. Two weeks before the Toronado is due to be garaged for the winter, the CR-V just ate it's power steering pump.
  23. It's gotta be able to at least tolerate 87.
