  8. The "bs" is the QX being rated above the Escalade. No one here has said the Escalade doesn't have it's faults, the complaint is that the QX was rated above it. I recall one poster saying that it should have finished 3rd. IMHO, the Audi is kinda not in the right segment for this compairo. It is much too small comparitively. Similar to compairing the prev-gen 3-series to the current gen CTS. The BMW/Audi gets a pass on it's smaller size while the Caddy gets knocked for providing more space for the same money.

Edmunds STUTTGART, Germany — The soon-to-be-launched and much-hyped Mercedes-Benz E320 Bluetec has reportedly failed to meet emissions criteria in the important states of California, Maine, Massachusetts, New York and Vermont. Mercedes said its E320 CDI was "the cleanest diesel vehicle in the world," but apparently not clean enough for U.S. regulators. Despite their popularity in Europe, diesels have never been commonplace in the United States and have a reputation as a technology for big rigs only. But there's a more ecological explanation for the lukewarm reception. Diesel is actually more harmful to the environment than gasoline because it generates more nitrogen oxides (NOx), gases that play a major role in the formation of acid rain and haze. It is no wonder, then, that many U.S. states impose strict emissions levels for diesel-powered vehicles. European regulators in turn have begun to demand "NOx traps" for diesel vehicles. Mercedes-Benz tried to tackle the problem by utilizing a catalytic device that converts NOx to nitrogen. Its Bluetec system, introduced in the Vision GL320 concept shown at the North American International Auto Show in January, injects an aqueous urea fluid called AdBlue into the exhaust system. AdBlue is intended to separate NOx into hydrogen and water. Despite the setback in the United States, Mercedes has already been using Bluetec-equipped commercial vehicles for some time, and it plans to offer Bluetec-equipped cars in Europe by 2008. What this means to you: Diesel is more frugal, but presents unique emissions problems for engineers. Sooner or later, it's got to work — Mercedes isn't the only one desperate to get modern diesels, so popular in Europe, into the U.S.
  12. Since you've been in the industry, maybe you can explain to us lay people why it matter. I don't understand if I'm ordering a car, and it's coming down the production line, why seemingly completely unrelated options can't be individually selected. Get me an Aura shell with a sunroof opening... and when you're building it, take a set of seats off the cloth seat rack and throw them in. If I've ordered and put a deposit on the car, why should this matter? On the otherhand, I do understand drive train combos since those have to be certified.

  19. There isn't that large of a statistical difference between Chevrolet and Honda to justify needing repair twice as often. This isn't Honda v. Kia we're talking here. Chevy is average, Honda is on the high side of average. The Cobalt and HHR have very good reliability ratings.
  20. The resale card can be played both ways... but it is slightly less less insidious with the domestics. Yes, the domestics depreciate faster *from sticker* than their foreign counterparts, but generally one can get a domestic for cheaper than a foreign car of equal size and option So, yes, one takes a hit on depreciation on a domestic, BUT with a foreign make, you pay more upfront... and possibly pay interest on it. Which is worse? They both suck, but the imports get to charge you interest while you get screwed.
  21. uhm, but you're not a new owner living with it everyday. You had a... what, 1 hour max with the car?
  22. That's great, but you've overlooked my two main objections. It's ugly as sin from the front while managing to be bland everywhere else, and, the interior look is just "ho hum" . As an appliance, I'm sure it's great. As for passion, it has none.
