Tesla wants have a self driving car built in 3 years
Drew Dowdell replied to J Reinhardt's topic in Tesla
A large number of people hate to drive and only do it because they have no alternative. If you don't want self driving cars out there, you better start writing congress to support massive subsidies to high speed rail and local public transportation projects. Keep in mind that most of the driving public can barely keep a '98 Corolla on the road safely, would rather not drive at all, and are one text message away from crashing into your mother. These are the people I'd want to see with the option to have the car automatically drive them..... but as long as I can have manual control once I get behind the wheel, I'm fine with the system being there. -

For most of the driving public? Yes. As long as the system can be disabled I'd prefer that most other people use automatic driving mode. With the amount of road travel I do. I might even use it from time to time on my longer trips. I'm in support of it as long as it is not mandatory. -

I'm sure it would be an option that could be activated or deactivated at will. -

Drew Dowdell replied to William Maley's topic in Volkswagen
Very nice! I've always appreciated VW's VR series engines. They were never the most powerful or economical, but their power delivery was excellent and their smoothness and refinement superb.- 4 replies

Honestly, I don't remember, but there is a good chance I'll see the car again next week, or at least Cadillac ppl, so I can look/ask.

need to figure out if you'd pay more than $3k at whatever interest rate you get. My guess is going with 0% @ 60 mo is the lowest total cost for you. Assuming no down payment, any interest rate above 3.0% @ 60 mo will cost you more than $3k Edit: 60 mo @ 3% on $38,558 = $3,012 interest over the life of the loan, so that interest rate is your exact break even point for consideration of rebates. but none of that considers the payoff of the Envoy.

I'm going to try and sell it privately. Private party is $9k - $10k, we were only offered $4k on trade-in. -
The Versa Note isn't as terrible as its predecessors, but the Sonic is still better.... Sonic also costs more.

He's one of those that just goes to the Toyota dealer and says "a loaded one please" and has for 3 decades.

While driving, he says that the various chrome accents in the dash and center console end up reflecting into his eyes. It is especially bad at night when driving under street lights. He is unhappy with the keyless entry. He hangs his keys on a hook in his garage. Apparently it was close enough to the car that it kept the car "alert" and drained the battery. He moved the key hook into his kitchen... still no good. He found some of the ergonomics, reaching for buttons, to be uncomfortable. This is a guy who spends 25k - 30k miles a year in his car.

September 26th, 2013 Drew Dowdell Managing Editor - CheersandGears.com Patent Drawings published on September 19th reveal that General Motors has filed a patent for a 7-Speed Dual Clutch Transmission. While there has been talk about a conventional GM 8-Speed automatic for a while, a 7-Speed DCT could give GM an upmarket transmission to offer in premium products from Cadillac or the Chevrolet Corvette. At the moment, the 2014 Corvette Stingray will be shipping with a 6-speed auto when the buyer opts not to row his own, leading us to believe that this 7-Speed DCT could be offered in the Corvette in the future. We also speculate that with a couple of V-series Cadillacs on the way, the timing could be right for an introduction in one of them. Update: A reader points out that the output shaft in the above drawing is offset to the side of the transmission (label 16). This means it is highly unlikely that this is a rear wheel drive transmission, but instead is a front wheel drive, transversely mounted transmission.
