  1. I think there will be a slight pause in the CAFE but I do not see the companies changing their strategy. They are just looking to buy time. I agree the V6 has a smoothness to it that is one true advantage to anyone willing to be honest. That is as long as it is a 60 degree engine. The 43 even with balance shafts can still have an edge to it. I would love to see the Turbo 4 standard and a V6 as an option in many models as to give people a choice. The real issue coming up is the stop start systems. While they work fine there is not much public acceptance to them. Most people just do not like them. Yes it is not always legitimate complaints but an unhappy customer is not a buying customer and going to a six may require the stop start with no shut off. Hmmmm what is one to do. I know there is nothing wrong with stop start but to me I would rather leave it in my golf cart LOL! Younger buyers may be more receptive but they are not the majority of the buyers yet.
  2. Go drive many of the 3.6 models from 2011-2016 and you find much throttle lag. GM really did something wrong on many of these models. My Terrain has it. Nox have it the Canyon and Colorado had it and several other models. You can hit the gas and it is dead for 1-2 seconds which can be a thrill when you are trying to be a Yellow light. It is much longer than any present day turbo. Second my 2.0 can hit max torque at 1800 RPM and hold it till 5300. The only issue I have if I try to beat a yellow light is not lighting the tires up through the intersection. Yes try to spin thje tires rolling at 40 MPH with any automatic 3.6 and see if you get traction control to kick in. I have even done it over 50 MPH. You can toss anything you like here but I can go out to my garage at any moment and disprove your thoughts with the very engines we are speaking about. You may have driven them but I own and live with them daily. While I may own more 3.6 models the Turbo is much more a pleasure to drive. Now to clarify the new Denali has the new 3.6 and it is fixed. There is no lag or throttle response issues. Many 15-16 owners have traded for the new engine and tranny on the forum. There was a fix call a Pedal Commander that would let you dial out the throttle issues for $299. It appears normally on the DI versions. My 08 for the most part did not have this issue but it can at time drop the throttle at time but no where as bad. The Denali with the new engine is sweet and has good response and shift measures. The observations here are my own and also those of the many owners who have complained about the same thing on the forums. So this is no an isolated deal. As for the V6 in the Regal yes they could have done it but the MPG would have been down. Many cried for the Insignia with the TT also but they failed to grasp it was a $60K car new in Europe we were already struggling just to sell the GS here at $40K. The truth is they need to find a way to sell a normal sedan at a reasonable price to the average customers. GS models are great but they do not carry the load. You are going to sell the 5% of the model in these cars no matter what.

  4. No it was that intrepid and what ever the hell the AMC was. They were so memorable. Also there is like none of either still around. i did see a fwd 300 the other day. Nice looking car for the age but still junk. The best thing the Germans did was kill the platform.

  6. Some of own these and live with them daily. The Turbo will run circles around the V6 Bu all day. Yes I have a 3.6 Bu and while a nice car not that much fun to drive. Also the 3.6 is the one that needs oil while the turbo uses not a drop. The reality is GM needs MPG and if it is even 1 gallon per mile they will take it. This is not a matter of what they could do or really want to do but more of what they have to do. The cruel reality is they will sell 4 to 6 time the Malibu's vs the Buick models so they have toon to work with MPG. Yes there is a difference in mpg as the turbo does get more mpg. It also has more torque and a flatter diesel like torque curve. You don't have to like it but it is what it is.
  7. Chrysler has long had issues like this. My boss a while back had a sedan with a Dodge name on one side and AMC On the other. Makes you wonder what they missed under the skin.
  8. I suspect the LaCrosse is not for long. I get the feeling they just used it to fill a gap till a new larger replacement is ready. I just get the feeling they changed direction on product when the White Space was announced. just call it a gut feeling. In the interim it will fill the need for those who want a trunk. I would not get worked up on the GS as it is not really a profit center like the up level luxury package will be. Option make money and big profit. Just look at Denali. Low cost to fit them out and large mark up for profits and never has to really change the engineering.
  9. Lag is little of a problem. also the 4 will take as much or more abuse as it is built to meet the same warranty standards. I own 3 HF V6 and one eco turbo and all do a nice job. I would love to see both in this car. Some of you need to get caught up and learn the Turbo is a very viable and fun engine.
  10. This is a good thing and easy for them to do with some simple bolt on parts. This will lead to some add on sales similar to the Denali at GMC. But we need to be realistic that this will account for 5-9 percent of sales at best. Many here will say about time but really ask yourself once you see the price will you really be buying one? I would wager if there is one sale here we are doing good. This is not a police package or a fleet package. But at the high price it will make money even at low volumes and that is key. I expect now with the ZR2 on the Colorado we will see some kind of package for the next full size truck. Now that GMC looks to be the luxury division with the Denali line Chevy will become the performance division for the trucks. Note the woman in charge of the Colorado, Denali and Trailblazer globally was asked if we would see a GMC ZR2 and she said NO! But when asked about a RWD SUV with a ZR2 like package she smiled and said that would be very interesting. That is GM speak that we may have or may be considering such a model. GM people say no when it is a no and avoid a yes and no when it is a possibility. Ok all you people who cried for a model like this and a Buick wagon. Well GM has given it it to you so buy up. It was used so much that it became a name with lost equity. I have no problem using the name but use it wisely or you will slip and fail again. I expect the entire truck line to get a line of performance models across the board. See the beginning of my post. I would wager the SS name will be saved for an even better SUV or Truck or left to the car lines. GMC is more focused on the luxury of Denali and not all out performance. Performance is a Chevy thing. Cadillac could get some even more interesting things in the future at their price point. Make no mistake these are not going to be priced for just anyone to own. They have to make money.
  11. Here is my observation of the mid size trucks. Both the Chevy or GMC were slightly down in sales but also at many dealer it was also short supply. Whileshopping I found the most popular models the short bed crews are few in number at most dealers. Many dealers have 2-6 mid sized truck at best. The short crews also last a very short time on the lot. I was lucky to find what I wanted as the color and model is not an easy one to find right now in Red Quartz. The only mid size trucks not selling are the crew long bed and extended cab but few dealers carry many of this less wanted version. GM is building as many as they can and even ordered it is 10-12 months. GM is moving to move the box vans built on the same line to Ohio at Navastar to assemble. I expect for us to see an increase this summer in supplies and sales. The mid size has had little to no incentives so it should have also impacted ATP. I could get over twice off a full size truck. Note I was also shopping So Cal for a family member and for some add reason their dealers have 25 trucks most of them white? Not sure why but it looks like unsold fleet models. Also little in incentives there. As for truck sales I know the full size trucks were down but all brands have $10k or more on the hood. I would love to see the profit of each model as the GM trucks generally have been very profitable.
  12. No you are not alone and it is just what is going on. The deal is it takes time money and man power so it tales a while. Also once the product gets here it will take time for each model to earn equity. The key is Cadillac is making money now. Better product, more CUV models and an earned better image will come over time that they do have. This is not a deal Chevy could work with but in the Cadillac segment it can work.
  13. By the way if it were not for China and the Denali profits GM would be Chevy, Cadillac and Holden and that is it. Look at all MFG outside VW and PSA and most are two divisions and some small domestic divisions. VW has managed it so far but the Diesel thing could have done much more damage. They got lucky. The PSA deal is a formula for failure as they just don't have the global love and volumes that VW has with the lesser priced cars and VW also makes a ton of their exotic brands at low volumes. GM is still one of the few that can do it all from engineering of gas, Diesel electric and Hydrogen cars. Few MFG could have done the Bolt or any of the other EV cars on their own, I see GM doing more partnerships where MFG will come to them to share cost on programs and components GM will design and use along with the partner. They have one of the best tech centers and staffs in the world and they can cut cost by doing more programs like they have done with Ford, Honda and BMW in the past. The others will be calling as they will not be able to do it on their own. especially the EV.
  14. Here is the deal. You can call it GM but it is the same damn engine found in the Chevy truck Corvette and Camaro for better or worse. When you sell around 3 million plus of said engine in a Chevy it is more Chevys engine than anyone's. You want performance parts you look up Chevy. You and to buy the direct from GM you get the Chevy Performance book. Like I said it is a great engine but Cadillac needs to offer more than what can be had in a lesser priced car. It is a matter of image and value for the customer at the higher price paid. Police are faster and faster going to V6 CUV/SUV models the Explorer in particular at Fords fire sale price of $26K per unit. Not only do they get AWD but they get a V6 that is easier on the budget. High Speed persuits are not really an iussue as most of these V6 engines have plenty of power and Durability has not even been an issue. Off road is even better and more room inside. The deal with the divisions is GM had way too many models and they killed all that were not global in some significant form namely China. It was not the bean counters it was just simple math of investment and return. In the high cost of development making single market models make no Cents anymore along with a lot of Dollars. Trust me I am a die hard Pontiac fan still with a flawed but loved Fiero in the garage but they were damage so that it would have taken billions to save that GM really needed at Chevy, Buick and Cadillac. Trust me if there was just one legitimate reason to save Pontiac I would be on the soap box but pure economics of not being global doomed them. GMC can get away with is as they are just higher value Chevy models and cost little to keep around and are so profitable with the Denali line that if GMC was an independent company they would rank 150 on the Fortune 500 list in profits alone. The Corvette is going where it has to go. There is no more that can be done in this world of 700 Hp+ cars today. You have to move the engine to center the mass and get a lower profile. Now do not be fooled that it is going to have to cost $200K as we will get a base model like the Stingray in the $70K range. Yes there will be more expensive models as the coming ZR1 that will be closing in on $150K. It comes down to how much do you want to pay and how much carbon fiber do you want or can afford. To move forward you have to let go of the past including some sacred things. Just look at the Amish they have held onto the past and look what they are driving for better or worse. The whole reason for the SUV/CUV is this. The CUV is an outgrowth of the Minivan. The Minivan showed people how a two box vehicle can be more usable and more practical in this consumer world of function over style. The CUV is really more a blending of what a man will accept and what a woman wants to buy. Lets face it most Minivan males have their balls in the wife's purse. I would never buy a Minivan but I am ok driving the wife's Terrain. Seeing women now influence over 50% of sales this must not be ignored. It is tough styling a two box but as long as they don't go Aztek then people tend to be ok with it. The problem you will face with the push rod is this. A GM drive train engineer said they will have to in the near future do DOHC on most models as the two valve engines just will not meet the future emission standards. While Trump may back off the Fed standards there are states that will not. They will make the switch not because they want to but because they will have to. The Corvette will be the first to move to this engine and they carry the push rods on a while but in time it will be replaced and we also will see them in the Camaro and trucks. Now word is the Chevy version and the Cadillac are two different sizes and different engines with the Cadillac getting TT. We will have to wait and see. GM nearly died from not making the changed years ago and they will not make the same mistake twice as the next time it will be fatal. You may have to give up on some sacred things but that is part of survival. Sometimes you have to lose a finger to save a hand. This is not my opinion it is just how the market works today and how things are going. This is what GM people and others in the market are saying. They are the ones dealing with the realities. The fact you see GM designing and building transmission for Ford and Ford helping pick up some of the funding. I laughed when I saw the first Aluminum F150 coming out of the Warren proving grounds. Who would have ever though they would see a top secret Ford truck testing at the GM proving grounds. That speaks volumes of the realities of economics. If you want to make a lot of profit today best to get out of auto MFG market.
  15. Anything from the last 30 years has a bit of damage to it to most non traditional Cadillac customers. Even as fun as the last fleetwood was to us enthusiast the people that Cadillac needs to draw in are people who saw it for what really was a Caprice. While you and I love it because of the Chevy roots the customer paying twice the Caprice price was not interested. No bashing the car as it was a fine car for what it was but it is not how Cadillac wants to be defined today. The more space between GMs other divisions the better. Now I know there will always be platform sharing but today they do a much better job of tailoring them apart. i love the Chevy engines but Cadillac needs their own engines or at the very least their own versions like the TT V6 that they do not share. People paying more want more than shared Chevy parts at this price point. At zbuick share away but at Cadillac they need their own things. even now JDN is working to have their own designers and engineers that only work for Cadilac. No more work on the CTS on Monday and work on a Cruize one Friday engineers.
  16. The problem with the XTS is this. It is not the floaty boat of yesteryear but it is not a sport sedan either. I is a luxury sedan based on a FWD Buick and Chevy. The heritage of the car for the many who know where it is based hurts it in their minds image. In this class you can not screw around too much with the younger buyers because they are smarter and on line to be better informed. While it is still a good car it makes it hard for some to pay that kind of a price for a better Buick. If Cadillac was content with running with Lincoln then the XTS would be fine. When it was developed GM was at a point that was their contention as this is really a car based in the pre bankruptcy of GM and Shelved till they came out and was used to buy time their they got their direction and footing. Many sides inside GM were fighting for the direction and finally Ruess got it in the one direction and put JDN to take them there. This infighting is why the message of Cadillac as been so mixed over the last so many years. Also it is why they has so much turn over at the head of the division. You will also see this is why they are in NYC not so much for culture but to get the division the hell away from GM and those there that meddle. Mark went though hell and back for the CT6 and even then it was compromised because he did not get all he wanted. JDN is more the non GM insider that is not intimidated by the old guard and he is going to do what he and Mark thinks needs done. Another thing that has tossed a monkey wrench in this is that the market is changing fast and the CUV and SUV segment is changing fast. This was all the while when GM was also replacing the SUV and CUV platforms. When looking at the Cadillac question you have to take all factors into consideration. This is not just a product decision but one of budgets, manpower, internal politics, market changes and time lines. All of this is in play. Then you have to factor in they are buying the time marketing wise till they get the new product that will take time to earn it's spot in the hearts of the buyers. Like every batter at the plate wants a home run most will take the single as this is a step forward to earn the lead. Each of these steps is one step to a win. So you can sit here and debate the short term issues or irrelevant problems but it is the big picture that will make the difference here. I swear some here focus so much on the petty bug on the windshield and never see the road forward. The fact is better product is coming, No not one single one will solve all the problems. No using old names will not solve the problems. No bench seats and fender skirts will not solve the problems they face. But if they can get all positive moves with each and every product in styling, quality and desirability they will move around the bases score runs with the customer and over time win the game. Cadillac does not have to sell more cars than BMW or Benz to be successful. The key here is to build a rep and image that will sell more cars at higher prices per unit sold. This segment is one that really is profitable and volume is not a major factor as much as ATP. The profits in these models are only surpassed by Trucks and it is the most profitable car segment. Chevy has to sell a number of cars to see the same profits one Cadillac has. So keep this in perspective and watch the bottom line. If Cadillac makes more money then this is a total win. As for the XTS it is still a transitional car and it will linger as long as it is making money. I do not expect it to be replaced with a similar model in the future. It may be replaced with a CUV of a similar size.
  17. product is what defines a name and name do not define product. As damaged as some of the names were they would be better off leaving the emblems off all together. If you are going to define your product by the name you are lacking in product. You can name your kid Elvis but that is no promise he can sing.
  18. According to the Cadillac rep at the Cleveland auto show the XT7 will be shown this fall. He said it would be a 3 row version based on the XT5? Now that means the XT5 is changing or the XT7 is just a longer non Omega. As for names bla bla bla. You can call it the Tucker Torpedo if you get it right and people will buy it. The trick is to make the car desireable to get people to pony up the money and create an image with the brand and model. GMC has done this to the top shelf with the Denali line. It took 20 years but they are exploiting it well. Since I bought a Denali I have experienced the public perception of the line. I hear oh you are MR big bucks and how much do you make? It has projected an image on me that creates reaction. The truth is the dealer discounted it to SLT price and for the money it was the better value. Other wise it may have been the SLT or SLE all terrain. But this image is what Cadillac needs to capture and create. It will take product and time so do not expect this first gen JDN product to change the image overnight. As for the present cars I find the Audi line more and more attractive. The A7 I was in was a very well done car. To be honest I would want it over any of the similar Benz and BMW offerings. Audi is gaining ground fast and I expect they will really make an impact in the segment. Cadillac should make a good impression with the new cars and if they get them right they will gain ground. The SUV models is where the image will be build as this is where the volume will be and where the market is at. They have a good shot as GM knows how to build a CUV and SUV model as well as anyone. The future will be build by non traditional buyers as catering to the traditional buyers is what got them into this mess and got them behind the market segment. It could be worse as Lincoln spent all that time and money on the new Conti and as of now all it has become is that car driven backwards by the nut job star. I have yet to see one on the road yet. It is out?
  19. There is always going to be a deal out there but it really comes down to what you really want. Like the full size and mid size. I could have got a great deal on a full size but it was not what I wanted.
  20. The pricing is all about ATP. They are adding features and pricing it a little higher but they still have a lot of room to move the price with a rebate if needed. To be honest for what you get it is a competitive price. They could do the Kia route and skimp on it and let them fall apart in 5-7 years. I just worked on a well kept Kia but the emblems were falling apart. the paint was fading, the wheels were messed up and even the pin stripe was faded out and it was plastic. It made my 08 Malibu look like it just came off the show room. This is how it will play out. Chevy will do well with this model as most will buy the LT that is still a good buy. Most will love it as it is as large inside as the last and get much better MPG due to losing so much weight. Those who want a little larger will move to the Acadia or the next size Chevy that is coming built on the Acadia. They have lowered the price of the Acadia enough to attract some Terrain buyers like my wife who want to move up. Honda is brand loyal so you are not going to change many minds there but over at Ford and Chrysler/Jeep many are not as happy with the many quality issues. CR just put out a new top ten regretted car bought and most were Ford and Fiat Chrysler products. These people are prime for the picking. Also the Honda is not all that cheap once you load it up. The reality is Chevy is really out of line here as nothing here worth having is cheap. Now if GM can screw these together and retain buyers they will make major gains with this just as they did with the last one. No one will go to number one with only one model and one year. This is a game of building blocks to make it. The reviews have all been very positive here and that will play well with the millennials as they take these reviews hook line and sinker. Also when GM is done there will be a Cross Over that will meet or exceed any wish of most buyers. So if you don't see what you like then you are just going to be that rare one left wanting. I also would not discount the mid size trucks either here. I can say now that the crew short bed trucks are basically a CUV with a bed. My Canyon is more quiet and more roomy inside than my Terrain. It rides so very well with only a little ripple on a rough surface. I told my wife the Denali is my ATS with a bed. With the heated steering wheel and vented seats along with all the other options I am not left wanting much. I am putting a BAK MX4 cover on the back that locks along with the tail gate that will provide me with large storage that is lockable. With Honda with their little truck, Fords coming Ranger and the Hyundai model coming this segment will eat into some sales of the CUV market as well as some trucks. Yes the Colorado and Canyon are not getting much if any incentives outside going to year old long beds that rot on the lot. Also yes the full size trucks are $10K off right now but there are so many people like me that just do not want the large truck. They are a pain to park and take up a lot of space in the garage. I did some careful shopping and was able to get $4K off sticker which is pretty good as most people are only getting $2500K, I would not be surprised if GM also does a smaller truck like the Honda at some point that is FWD bases. While Honda will draw many CUV buyers many truck buyers are still wanting the traditional RWD bases set up. Also they like riding higher up and they like the bed much deeper as with a cover the Honda holds little with it closed. In and while this is all going on the Cars will continue to struggle. I noted to night I don't know what to do with my feet. In my FWD cars you have the left foot on the wheel well and the right on the gas. In the Canyon I have as much space as my 1970 Monte Carlo. I almost get tempted to step on the bright light button. LOL! As it is GM is going to be well stocked with CUV models and they will benefit greatly here. Profits will continue to climb per unit sold too. The cars will still be around but they will be like how the CUV was the car off to the side of the show room. People just like the room and versatility of the CUV or trucks and they will continue to be their choice as cars are just not as usable as they used to be. There was a time a sedan could double for a truck with large trunks and a roof strong enough to haul several sheets of ply wood. But today you can not get a box in the trunk opening and the roof would be dented with one sheet of ply wood on it. Even tonight my bed cover came in and I had to go home to get the truck as drove the Malibu today. [Chance of Hail] Well the box on the cover would not slide in the opening of the trunk as it was too tall. It would fit inside the car if I could only get it in the opening.
  21. The Camaro has a big advantage over the Mustang. In the Camaro Gen 6 my head hit the headliner. In the Mustang my head hit the real glass. If given the choice the headliner would prove to be much better on the melon. LOL!

They didn't also have the crash regulation, the mpg regulations and all the petty preconceived notions of what a Camaro souled look like. while retro is cool it is also a easy way out on the lack of styling creativity. Less risk less gains in creating a future classic. i warned years ago here that Retro is a two edged sword where you get the good of the past but fail to progress to new and even better designs. Just look at the box Mini is in. They try to break out but remain stuck with their past. Global sales bail them out. The back seat of the Camaro sucked since the first gen. Do Kid your self. It is bad today and it was not much better then. That is just the nature of a sport coupe. You take a muscle coupe and take away the risky styling and then you end up with a 04 GTO. Lets face it half of you will be up set no matter which direction they go and 95% of you are not going to buy the car anyways. Just be honest here!
  23. And add two doors and put a hatch on the back with a third row then it would fix the sales. LOL! It is a damn good coupe and it is in a segment that is very limited. Mustang and Dodge both are not burning up the sales charts and even the smaller coupes from Asia are not setting the world on fire either.
  24. Here is the deal. Now we know why it was delayed. Two while some may not like this now sales will determine the success. Looking around it is no better or worse than any of the others so performance and interior will determine much of how it does. Function plays a bigger roll here. I hated the Terrain and now own one. These things grow on you and GM has enough a models that one should appeals to someone. The Camaro is fine it is the fact Coupes are a hard sell and price. Add to this the boomers that were buying them in their 50-60's are now in their 70's and have moved on. The Camaro 5 also was a car built under duress. They had to take an older platform that was updated. convert it to a smaller coupe than the GTO and make it work. They made a mistake buy taking the show car and not changing it enough on the inside. It clear to the Camaro team they need to change the inside but GM wanted it left alone. The Camaro group did help but also much of what they said was also not done too. GM gets the blessing or curse for any results the advisory group could only pass along their ideas that were used and more often not used. I know someone in the group so I have heard of their recommendations. Keep this a good value, Make it drive and ride better than the others. Keep it reliable. Make it user friendly and you will sell a crap load of these. As for appealing to women well they buy 80% of them so who else would you make it appeal to. The GMC is a little more butch so it will pick up those lead when they dance. My wife was not impressed as it did not look to sit as high. She likes that on her present Terrain. Right now she is on the Acadia Denali as it is a little larger but not as large as it used to be. By the time we replace her car it may be something else by then in this ever changing market. I am not an SUV guy but if GM just builds on what they had in the last model it will do fine. It may not pass the others all up as this is a loyal group but if they can just slowly increase market share it is a win. The reviews will be critical as many who buy in this segment can't check their own oil. They read and trust what others say and the first reviews are positive. Next high crash results will be important too. I think they should make things like the heated wheel and vented seats an option that can be had in many levels as this would be something women would like. Simple comfort items like this can make or break a deal as people buy features and utility here not styling. By the way the rejection story here is a GM story and the work of media. I think they did it for two reasons. One if it leaked out they would have to explain so get in front of it. Second it is being used to show they listened and cared enough to get it right as they say. These things are two key points to the non enthusiast as they do not know automakers like we do. To understand this segment toss out everything you know as an automotive enthusiast as this is the anti enthusiast vehicle. If it made sense to you then they missed the market demo. Note too on the last model it was too large, it was to heavy, it had too much cheap plastic, it was too old and as time when on it sold better and better. None of it made sense but it worked. This segment is not your normal buyer.
  25. Or you live in the western part of the country were the RHD is not enforced. I ace a few customers there with LHD and all say it is not enforced like the rest of the country. also you can wait a couple years and just buy a RHD when Chevy upgrades
