The UAW and GM made all these wacked out deals back in the days of prosparity when GM was HUGE and could afford it.(flash forward 30 years)not that way anymore.Ill say it again,if I were offered that job/ benefit hell yes i would take it.BUT I tried for 20 years to get in,no go! Those days are over, the market is TOOOOTALY different! just a thought.

Ive said it before and ill say it again. You dont dump an entire division! You streamline each division and drop copycats and dead wood. If three or four division make esentially the same car, take the best of all and condence into one or maybe two cars. If it has a truly loyal following, they dont care what division its under, especially if they see its greatly improved and retains the features that drew them in to begin with. The next step would be of course, GOOD PR AND REALLY GOOD DISCRIPTIVE ADVERTISING!!!imp of corse

True this synario doesn't hold true for all, yet does your company have as many employees building product thats sales are in a 5 year slump?(so to speak)Or better yet does your company pay you not to work so they can sell what they already have too much of already?Of a product thats sales are REALLY REALLY SLOW! im not saying its just the jobs bank draining the whole corp, yet, if sales are this slow and have been declining steadily this long, how long can they afford to pay them not to work when the sales of what they build to pay them not to work ins't there? see my point? Its just ANOTHER leak in the giant GM plumbing problems. If you leak a gallon an hour and only put in 3/4 gallon an hour ....................................

Its a reality thats time has come. The whole thing is so abused as it is that the original purpose was out the window as soon as it began. Not one other corperation of any kind pays full for not working. Most every one else is limited to the unwelcome, uneventful, underpayed, unenjoyable expwerience of unemployment(That does not pay full benifets and full healthcare) Yes if it was offered to me back then hell yes i would take it but reality sets in quick when the bread and butter runs out.We all know when to cut back (except the suits by the way) Why havent the big dogs taken huge paycuts to help out their sinking ship. The MAJORITY of the problems with GM lye squarely on their decitions and not on the workforce that keeps the corperation running!Yes job baks is wasteful but HUGE sallerys and ENORMOUS BONUSES are criminal.Where is the "YOU SUCK" clause in their contract? imo (sorry im so worked up, my livelyhood depends on sales of their product.Lets fix the f#@% ups now!.

I still maintain that if the just ditch the hohum sheet metal for exciting innovative designs and keep production of the best sellers under control most of the year they wont have overstock, which would stop shut downs. The quality is in place!Stop sitting on your laurels GM and get with the program. Hybrid tech in the HHR,Cobalt Malibu,Lacross,G6,vue,ion, Colorado and lambda platform(all) as an option to compete,o hell across the board, why not have hybrid on all cars and trucks!Pull $3.00 an hour for insurance like the rest of the workforce. NO MORE BONUSES FOR SUITS!!!PERIOD!!!!! Until profitability returns! Yes I realise im just stating the obvious.BUT, if it is so obvious why don't they see it?!?!?Ditch the jobs bank @ 95% pay. no one else that I know is still using 1970 business plan stratagys.Fair trade agreements HAVE to be faced .When the opposition is using ultra cheap labor the should be made to compete on a equal playing field or they can NOT import their goods to us! signed, Mr Obvious

I second this, the main point most annylist keep bringing up is that american manufacterers are NOT building enough cars that americans want. point blank! Yes we are on a turnaround but yet is it too late? Maybe this type of product along with HHR,Solstice, mustang,Challenger and soon to be Camaro will energise the public into wanting American cars again. Not to mention injecting the new high tech hybrid mechanics to those styles and pushing the marketing to the edge. The perfection IS in this market for both sides of the coin.

so when GM starts building a hydrogen hybrid herritage high roof rally super sport supercharged it willbe a HHHHRRSSS :P sorry I got carried away.

what year did wagoner sign on with GM, around 94 -96? Five years ago, at 47, Mr. Wagoner became G.M.'s youngest chief executive. He was a protégé of John F. Smith Jr., who became chief executive after a boardroom coup in 1992. Mr. Smith pulled the company from record losses to a record profit by 1999. Mr. Wagoner did not promise to reinvent G.M. Remember when Chrysler faltered? The Carter Democrats fashioned a loan guarantee program, which the Reagan Administration then put into effect. The Reaganites made one last-minute change, demanding stock warrants; those paid off, with a $311 million profit to the U.S. Treasury Sounds like good business sence to me.Take out $2.00 an hour instead of $1.00 for the healthcare and slow production a little bit then make more dynamic sheet metal and in 2 tears GM will be on top again. The tech is already in place , now they need to shout about it like toyota does! Ramp up full hybrid in Cobalt/HHR, malibu platforms ASAP and lambda HAS to have a full hybrid offer. Just mt opinion by the way.

Bloomberg Column York brings to the party long and rich experience in financial management posts at automakers, most notably the Chrysler bailout of the early 1980s. He also served as CFO during Lou Gerstner's campaign to turnaround International Business Machines Corp. in the mid-1990s. Why cant the government give GM a bail out like they did Chrysler.?

Is it just me or is this thing just a reaaaalllllllllllyyyyyyyyy bad ugly nomad ripoff! maybe it is just me. whoooffaaaaaaaaaaa! :puke: -
I hope the NA Cap has much better sheet metal than that one. I personally don't care to much for that subdue subtle bland type of design.I don't mean flashy "LOOK AT MEEE!!!" designs either ,but, not a big Imp .IMO

If you still have any doubt a Camaro is coming...

G M T V will have to cover it, the hype has begun and it will keep rolling . :P -
as far as the gm truck system. it does work (quite seamlessly) and is MUCH cheaper in price and repair cost as well as battery replacement plus construction and or outdoors activities advantages. belt start system isMUCH simpler a system as well. B)

:( oh dear.

IMO work ethics as a whole have slid down a slippery slope for decades. I personally know several gm factory workers(no not all are like this) that actually work maybe 5 of 8 hours or even have someone else punch them in and out. yet they have free healthcare. Bitch bitch bitch. No offence to the real good employees. <_<

Exactly why GM changed the NAME from Olds to Saturn in the first place. The line was mostly dated as the name was as well. old image in new image market. Therefore, revamp the entire line, change the name and eliminate the other line. You get to Saturn by riding a rocket! :P
-
I agree, that is not a complete mock up. to me the top isnt even connected directly to the bottom.(not a bug sheild)
-
ion/alero aura/intriuge vue/bravada outlook/too new ,no crossovers till equinox in 04/05 relay silouette sl300/aurora just my opinion naturaly. B)
-
there is hard top coming out in 07/08 i believe. Also,I think saturn is turning the corner as becoming the full olds replacement in quality and price. If the brass wouldn't have waited to debute other models in the begining, imo, they would have been there alot sooner.opel is injecting some much needed design flair.
