How many LeMans wins and embarassed DOHC owners will it take before people stop making unfounded anti-pushrod comments. To me nothing makes you seem like more of a brainless moron than talking smack bout an 8-speed & V10s... V10s are lame, 10 is NOT a round number when it comes to motors, it really isn't any better than a V8 but lacks the refinement of a V12. I think V10s are kind of lame personally. If you're going to brag about cylinder count you better have at least 16.

WMJ: See that's the thing I'm going for maximum bang/$ so veggie oil makes sense. I live in a densly populated state with Chinese Food & Fast Food restaurants of all varieties plentiful. Used veggie oil is not hard to come by pro-bono. Like I said a guy on the outer regions of Tight Whips membership has been converting used diesel cars to run on french fry grease for years. His personal hoopty is a scummy old vanilla/brown Mk.II Jetta diesel that burns veggie oil & has only spun around the 6-digit odometer about 3.1 times. Thanks for the link Empowah. PCS: Re-read my post... I was NOT talking about the W body, TRUST me. I should have called it a 2008 Pontiac Catalina SJ (G8-GT) :AH-HA_wink: -

AWD is standard, which is what makes it so crazy that it does not outsell the $h!ty Corolla & Civic about 20:1. -

Navigation is just another new option that every pu$$y who;s too much of a retard to tri-fold a map NEEDS. -
Balthazar said it all. And BTW: most of you so called conehead "enthusiasts" do not know and can not appreciate something as gorgeous and timeless as a Dual Cowl Phaeton or a Ruble Seat Roadster, so while you think my opinion is ,lame it's quite the opposite from where I'm sitting.

Don't change your oil every 3000 miles! Because CR & CNN SAYS SO!
Sixty8panther replied to jessi_chan's topic in The Lounge
It' all relative, there's been times I changed my oil every 2500 miles in my '68 Camaro even though it was synthetic... but that's because it was driven like a dragster on and off the dragway. I beat the piss out of it & I figured that 377 horsepower, 11:1 compression ZZZ-350 motor could use a little extra insurance. That having been said my '84 Datsun was lucky to get an oil change every 4500 miles. Sometimes I went 7000. (synthetic) -
Well said Camino. First it was catalitic converters in the 1970s... Then it was all sorts of emissions junk in the late 1970s In 1976 the hardtop got the axe Then later, in the early 1980s it was MORE emissions garbage Emission hoses & charcoal canisters The BOF G-body was replaced with lame FWD/unibody jellybeans with no V8 power To make matters worse airbags & overcomplication replaced common sense Then we lost RWD in all but trucks, F-bodys, B-bodys & the Vette Then we lost BOF cars altogether, stupid, stupid!!! Now not only do we get told to pound sand if we want a stickshift in anything except a Corvette but we get power everything and navi shoved down our throats and 14 airbags standard. Let's leave the hardtop bodystyle and have the Camaro gain 80 lbs. Then lets throw out the 450 lbs. of $h! I do not want and end up with a truly light car. I don't want or need a 200 gig computer, or 7 airbags, or 16 way power searts & 20" rims, don;t giveme a sunroof or an independant rear suspension....

Ocnblu: Julie is not a into cars, she was driving a Taurus becuase it was given to her for cheap by a friend... when we decided find her a replacement for it I asked what she'd like and her response was she loves BMWs and the new GTO. But in her own words she only likes newer Bimmers, not the cheap/affordable 1980s ones I was looking at, like late '90s 5-series. As far as the Holden-GTO with the baby on the way she wanted a four door. (I think there might be a gently used 2008 Pontiac "G8" Grand Prix V8 in her futute) When I rationalized the idea of a diesel Benz her response was typical.... "but they're noisy, and don't they smell?" But she came around when I explained the idea of cheap & possibly free fuel, durrability & safety. This car is a very good value, esp. ocnsidering all the recent work that was done to it by a professional mechanic. Trust me, it's been on the agenda for a while. I decided in fall of 2005 that I would do a vaggie car. Over the past two years I've looked at a few diesel Cadillac Sevilles, MBs, BMWs and even a BMW-TD powered Lincoln Mk.VII. XP knows a guy who does them, mostly to crappy FWD VWs from the '80s, but either way I might be able to have him do a cheap veggie conversion. IIRC he said a realistic estimate was like $250 for a real basic cooking oil kit. Knowing Pete that probably involves an aluminum beer keg, goverment/military surplus junk & parts left over from his DeLorean restoration. -
Baby's head? I think it looks like a dustmite with downs syndrome!

I'm already thinking about it.... Totalled ragtop + coupe with the rear glass removed + a good body man = HARDTOP. But the point is this was going to be GM's first true hardtop since 1976 and the very first affordable hardtop in almost four decades!
-
YES!
-
f@#k that. You want a super stiff chassis? Make a factory accessory rollcage and give the rest of us an affordable alternative to the Bentley, Mercedes, Jaguar & Rolls Royce hardtops. There's a reason why Mercedes Luxury coupes sell so well, because they do not pu$$yb out on little things like that. GOD IS IN THE DETAILS!!!

WHite & blue interior huh? Seems like 99 out of a hundred of these cars were made in "off-white/tan" -
Yeah.... people are lazy & stupid. Like the RAV4 driver that told me "this is the cheapest gas around, I drove like 20 min out of my way to gas up here!" The gas there was $2.65 when most places were charging $0.14 more. 20 minute drive = what, maybe 15 miles... in a RAV4 =that's half a gallon, so she just broke even besty case scenario and wasted time and miles (wear & tear on her car) for a few pennies.

The carpeted dash is not factory, and yet it looks like plastic moss... Now as far as a turbo: I wish, our MB is natrually aspired. -
Make sure the previous owner did not use regular oil in the motor. (as was the case with my 97 STS) It calls for Mobil-1, it has to be SYNTHETIC, never ever swithc back. Had I known that I would have not bought my 97 STS.

Maybe so many of you do not get it because so many of you think modern cars don't suck. I wonder how many of you have driven a hardtop? How many of you banged the gears on a 1969 Camaro with a 454/M22 4-speed and all the windows down? If I never tased a Lindt Hazlenut chocolate bar I might still be convinced that it's no better than some $0.79 Hershey bar, but I have and I DO KNOW the differance.

Quiz: How well do you know the United States?
Sixty8panther replied to Oracle of Delphi's topic in The Lounge
LOL My answer would be: Post-communism I love Slovakia but there are 99.9% less 1969 Camaros, 1959 Buicks & 1936 Pontiacs there. And gas is even MORE expensive! -
Wow... that's the coolest RV I've ever seen! 9 liter diesel + veggie oil = f*ck you oil companies!

Oh, and I forgot to post these: Here's a few photos of the now depatred (gunmetal/burgundy) Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham with other Tight Whips Rides, including the Murder Car 1971 Sedan deVille. I hope she provides good faithful service to her new owner. Not that I had anything against the 16mpg that car was averaging but the 34-40 the Benz should get will be good enough to balance out all the miles I do in my 11mpg B-59. I agree the clock is useless, a tach is what SHOULD be there but I'm over it. -
So our 1986 Fleetwood Brougham was sold on Thursday night at 8:00pm. A guy who lives about 1.5 miles away took for a testdrive, gave me a few $100s & $20s and shook my hand as I gave him the keys. Shortly after my wife Julie & myself were in the back of the Banana Boat (the famous Tight Whips yellow '77 Coupe deVille) on our way to South Boston. XP and his g/f gave us a ride down so we could pick up Julie's new hoopty. The car in question was on craigslist for several weeks, no photos in typical fashion. It was located close to University of Massachusetts, right by the famous JFK Library, in So. Boston off Rt. 93. 1982 Mercedes Benz 240 D, four door sedan, automatic. Julie's three "must haves" in a car were: 1. 4 door 2. automatic 3. mid-size So this fit the bill perfectly. According to the owner it was in "great shape" and although the odometer stopped working at 185,000 miles it had just about a 1/4 million miles. The front end, brakes & rear end were all replaced or rebuilt in the last 4 years. So in other words the car is good for another 100,000 to 400,000 miles. Very rust free, came from Texas and was out there untill 2004. So here it is, the first official diesel member of TIGHT WHIPS!
