  1. Excellent point but i'll most likely be noting more than a cryogenically frozen head in a locker at Iron Mountain 75 years from now, I do however see your point. One thing though: Per capita MUCh less of today's cars will survive that long, domestic or otherwise... modern cars suck in terms of ease of maintenence and "restoration". Between the electronics and all the otehr jun in modern cars they'll be fed to a crusher in much larger numbers than 30s or 50s stuff ever was.
  2. I may be a hypocrite but to say that 1990s Hondas share a commonality with 1930s Pontiacs is just mind boggling. Yes, in 1931 this car would not jump out at you cosmetically in traffic but it DOES have style and you can;t argue with that. In 1931 Pontiac was an upscale manufactrer, not your Chevrolet or Plymouth, nevermind the cheap-tastic Fords that every arm-chair entusiast thinks needs to be made inot a "rodded", "chopped" & 350-SBC powered car with cheesy 1990s aftermarket wheels. Respect your roots, if ti wa not for this car and many other cars from the 1930s GM would not exist today, nevermind Pontiac ZETAS. let's not get into semantics, you think 1930s cars suck and that's your right... I think they're a great investment and I appreciate any 1930s non-Ford that has survived to be seen on the road today still powered by it's flathead (or valve-in-head-Buick) motor and manual transmission sans-synchros. I think 20 years from now when a 1991 or so Honda Civic with low miles will be a great candadite for a demolition-derby enduro race (same as my Datsun is today and your Millenia will be soon despite both being great vehicles in their day) a mostly original 1931 Pontiac sedan on corker tires will be worth its weight in Copper if not Gold.
  3. Dude, what the heck are you talking about? a 1931 Pontiac is EXACTLY in line with my principles: - RWD - BOF - INLINE-6 (bulletproof flathead) - A+++ in ease of maintenence - Does NOT blend into traffic - While every Honda ever made DEPRECIATES this car will always APPRECIATES Show me one HONDA product from the 1930? They did not exist as a car manufacturer for another 3+ decades and therefore do not enter into the equation to ANY capacity. Honda did ZERO, nothing, zip, zilch for the advancement of the Automobile in the days of the early "horseless carrige". I'm so sick of the Japanese they have not contributed in the last 100 years to the advancement fot he car any more than just GM did in ONE decade like the 1950s or 1960s. Ever seen a '36 Toyota AA? A botched abortion of a chrysler Airflow with showpping cart wheels. There's a car you can compare to a '31 Poncho. Gross here's a 1959 Chevrolet BTW:
  4. Ouch! x 1,000,000 I agree. If Honda who has been preaching about the evils of V8 motors in passanger cars is going to jump on the bandwagon then you KNOW the V8 is here to stay. You know what would be kind of neat? A ground up 21st century version of the BOP 215. Honda could make like a 2.5 liter DOHC V8 with VVTi etc... that would be worht swappign into an Acura and converting it to RWD versus all the loosers who spend $5000 just to put a used 1.8 liter four cylinder in a civic that originally came with basically the same motor but in 1.6 liter guise. Way to spend your money you dope... thousands of dollars and wasted time all for what in the end results in exactly12.2 cubich inches and about 15 horsepower at the FRTON wheels. I'd rather shoot myself in the face with a sawed-off.
  5. I'm surprized everyone overlooked my 1958 Chrysler VIPER RT/10 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2004-Dodge-...1QQcmdZViewItem
  6. law & order
  7. So where are you going to find a 8 foot wide Toronado? Maybe you can slice up a couple of those Airport Limo toronados and make ONE wide enough to swallow a 6 foot long Lycoming inline-8. And why would this piss me off? I'm not THAT crazy about Toronados. Jay Leno's RWD '66 Toronado is a fantastic "f**k you" to the "superiority" of FWD. Jay is the ultimate car guy, bar none. He made a very powerfull statement wiht that car and I love it. maybe if' I'm ever "Jay Leno rich" I'll buy about TWENTY 1930-1934 V-16 Cadillacs and a few Duesenbergs and paint them all up with with TIGHT WHIPS logos.
  8. I'm not a big fan of this color just because every guy with a 1971 Duster or 1973 Charger thinks this is the only color Mopars should be paintd and more recently I've seen a million Riced out Hond-Acuras in it. I like the yellow/mango HI color the best.
  9. Thank You Sir, it took me a long while to make this one, the boxes are 59x59 pixles btw  but I think it's the most elaborate "question" ever. It kind of had to be though in so that we could have a three point swing. FOR THOSE WHO OVERLOOKED IT: All who wish to participate must submit their answers in this thread by 12:00 midnight on December 13th 2006. The highest score will get three points, the second highest will get two points & the third highest will be awarded one point. A tie breaker will be posted if necessary. It's always fun when someone wins by a nose.
  10. I used to think the EXACT same thing... then I grew up and had my fun with 60s cars, now I'm ready for the next step. I learned to appreciate cars beyond speed & exterior cosmetics. Regardless of what you thinkof this car, it is a better investment than any post-WWII non-exotic production car or truck. I'm falling hard and fast for the cars of the 1930s... Damn, I'd even love to have a Brass era car lke the 1909 Packard in my sig. OR EVEN BETTER: 1912 Metz Roadster. Made right in Waltham Massachusetts, same town I work in now. You know your car is FAST if you have an oversized monacle for a windshield.
  11. I'm telling you now baby it don't matter if you're black or white! Oooo-Hooo!
  12. In the past I never gave this all that much thought Fly, but I am starting to agree with you... if my 1984 Datsun econobox can have 2 pneumatic prop struts on its hood than there's absolutely no excuse for a 2006 Infiniti or 2007 Acura SUV.
  13. T1G#T WH!P$ TROPHY TRIVIA In the next few weeks I'm going to post 59 different trivia questions of all different forms on C&G. Multiple choice, photo identification, photo match up & even some true or false. Some questions will be multiple part and others a simple one word answer. At the end of the 59 individual trivia thread questions all the winners will be added up and a trophy will be mailed via the USPS to the over all winner of the first annual Tight Whips Trivia Trophy. Best of luck to all, I encourage everyone to participate. ...................................................... 14. Please do tell me DF.
  15. At about 6:00 pm eastern I will post the greatest "trivia questioon" ever seen here on C&G or any other automotive forum, period. [/movie_announcer_guy] BTW: Interesting footnote. What was left of Thích Quảng Đức after he burned himself alive was cremated (yes, I know it's ironic) and as the story goes his heart was found intact amongst the ashes. He was pronounced a saint as a result because medical science can not explain how the heck his heart survived those two violent exothermic oxidation events.
  16. Yup... techncally I should be "Sixty4" now... my "Sixty8" Camaro (Production f-body Panther) was sold so I could buy the '64 Super88. Going by this logic I hope that all of you will be calling me "Thirty1Pontiac" soon. http://www.cheersandgears.com/forums/index...showtopic=14125 Agreed.
  17. I am in love! This is like the coolest obtainable 1930s "survivors" on ebay ever. LINK ---> http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1931-PONTIA...1QQcmdZViewItem YOU ARE LOOKING AT A VERY SOLID 1931 PONTIAC 2 DOOR SEDAN, IT RUNS AND DRIVES VERY NICELY.... IT HAS HAD A VALVE JOB, AND BRAKES DONE RECENTLY.... THE TIRES ARE IN LIKE NEW CONDITION, AND THE SPARE TIRE IS IN THE BACK SEAT, NEW NEVER BEEN MOUNTED..... OVERALL SHEET METAL IS RUST FREE, THE BLACK SPOTS WERE JUST RECENTLY DONE TO PROTECT MINOR SURFACE RUST FROM GETTING WORSE...... THIS CAR USED TO BE A TAXI CAB IN ARGENTINA, AFTER BEING BROUGHT BACK INTO THE STATES, IT HAS HAD VERY LITTLE MILEAGE ADDED ON..... FRAME IS VERY SOLID, MOTOR RUNS REAL NICE, CLUTCH, TRANSMISSION, REAR AXLE, AND FRONT AXLE ARE IN GOOD WORKING CONDITION...... IT HAS A TRANSFERABLE REGISTRATION HERE IN NEW YORK STATE ------------------ currently the bidding is at $1375 Anyone who wins this auction and buys this car can trade me straight up for my Super88, no joke. The guy said his reserve is about $7000 but he will not consider trades, he has his eyes set on a 1935 Ford Business Coupe in Maine and needs to sell this Poncho fast so that he can buy that car.
  18. Blood
  19. The Toronado is one of the exceptions to the rule. Here's the rule of FWD: FWD cars are always inherantly inferior to RWD vehicles... ...unless at least one of the following criteria are met: 1. The car is Pre-WWII, esp. if it is a "boattail" or "coffin nose" 2. The vehicle is powered by a inline-8 motor 3. The motor is mounted longitudinally in the chassis. (lengthwise) 4. The power from the flywheel is transfered to the TH425 via a "Morris Chain" 5. Razorback or Bustleback styling (which automaticaly means criteria 3 & 4 is met) 6. If it is one of the XP-784 prototypes. 7. One & only one truly great car exists that has transverse mounted motor: 1959 MINI. So please stop assuming I hate the toronado, Cords, '67 Eldorados and such.... those cars were cool because their FWd was smart, beneficial and it set them appart.... instead of making them just like every other car on the road. I could go on & on & on but I will not.
  20. The drunken Irish made the stainless steel DeLorean. ASIMO is a Hon-DUH. Although I hear when they bring him to the USA he'll get a very-slight cosmetic upgrade & wear an ACURA Euro-ASIMO Type-S badge. That face-plant is priceless! I love it. (I'd still rather have an Asimo rather than a Ridgeline)
  21. I also laughed pretty hard at the "Honda builds great cars...." headline. That's priceless!
  22. That was by far the funniet F***ing thing I've ever seen in my life! I almost fell off my chair here at work... people probably heard me snickering & supressing exuberation in my cubicle like a five year old schoolboy with candy in his pocket. Even funnier than William Gates' blue screen of death eff-up! PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE DEAD ROBOT BEHIND THE CURTAIN!!!
  23. Very true. and especially: don't forget this one.... did I mention....?
  24. My buddy told me that in Hawaii they only have two types of rental cars... Mustang convertibles & Jeep Wranglers.
