...My parents used to take my sister and I here at least once a year. Each time, we'd see a slightly different layout. It was always a fun time and one that we eagerly anticipated. The drive to get there seemed to take FOREVER. Now, we know just how CLOSE it really is!

There's a railroad museum not too far from me- been there once. A 1 mile walk to see 8 miles of layout. They have a running engine outside with some track (wasn't open when I was there and I don't recall the engine config.)

I used to model railroad and it still appeals to me, but I don't have the time for it anymore.

about the same here. I don't have the room for it. Now once we get a place of our own, I'm planning on taking a room and turning it into a train/model room so that I can do model railroading again and also be able to still build my car and plane models.

Holy cow ... that pic ... looks like spaghetti . Must be one heck of a neat layout!

Sadly, I don't have much time for my HO scale train either. BUT ... I'm hoping to get it back up and running ... and make some more changes to the table within the next few years or so. It's one of those things (like the legos) that I love to do ... could spend hours working on it ... but, just don't have the time to devout to it like I want to right now.....

On a slightly larger scale, I went to the NC Transportation Museum in Spencer, North Carolina this week. It's a former railway station that focuses mainly on trains, but has other forms of transportation too.

If you're looking for a relaxing place to spend a few days, I highly recommend going there and neighboring Salisbury. The whole area is an absolutely beautiful example of the small town South.
