Rumorpile: Porsche Overhauling Its Entire Lineup By 2016

Automakers are always in a overhauling cycle with their model lineup in varying stages. Porsche happens to be in the middle of its cycle. So far, the company has introduced the new Panamera and refreshed versions of the Cayenne, 911, and the Boxster. Automobile magazine has uncovered what the company has got planned up to 2016.

First up are the vehicles we know about; coming in 2013 are the new Cayman, the smaller Macan, and the 918 Spyder. The 918 Spyder will come with equipped with a 4.6L aluminum V8 producing 550 hp and 515 lb-ft of torque, and will be paired with two electric motors for a combined total output of “at least 720 hp” and 550 lb-ft. The setup can provide 15 miles of range on the electric power alone. Also the setup can have the engine on or a combination of the two to drive the rear wheels. The front wheels get their own electric motor, which means the 918 will have on-demand all-wheel drive with torque vectoring.

In addition the 918 Spyder, there will be a car that will sit underneath and provide competition to the Ferrari 458 Italia. Codenamed the 960, the vehicle will use a new mid-engine platform, that will also underpin future Lamborghini models. Power will come from a 4.0L flat-six with dual twin-scroll turbochargers producing somewhere in the range of 600 HP and 550 lb-ft of torque.

Also coming in 2013 is a heavily refreshed Panamera which will also bring a long-wheelbase version and possibly a Panamera shooting brake and a four-seater Panamera cabriolet.

There is also the rumor of a smaller Porsche sedan, codenamed Pajun (short for Panamera junior). The Pajun will inherit many components from the larger Panamera and will come with four doors with seating for four. The Pajun will arrive in 2016 and could spawn two or three different body styles.

There is talk about a BMW X6 competitor that will be based on the next generation Cayenne that could arrive in 2016.

"The setup can provide 15 miles of range on the electric power alone, engine power alone, or a combination of the two to drive the rear wheels."

this needs some grammar remix on it. ;)

    interesting otherwise.

There's nothing "wrong" with the grammar.

I gave it a quick fix

So basically Porsche and Audi are going downmarket and upmarket simultaneously and them compete with VW, which wants to expand as well. Sounds like path that GM took to failure earlier with brands saturation.

    That's the risk.

    • Here's a depiction of where a school age kid is smarter than a teacher! Also, such a teacher would need to meet up with some discipline because these sorts of things happen more so than we think. I once heard a comment about a grade school kid sitting in a car being driven by his parents on the Las Vegas Strip.  He asked how, if casinos were supposedly paying out all this money to customers, they could afford to put up these big fancy buildings.  If you're thinking like that at 10 or 11, you've probably got a Harvard or Stanford MBA in your future.   When I was his age, I just marveled at cool buildings ... and didn't do much further analysis.
    • I had to look up the Feast of San Gennaro in NYC ... courtesy of Neapolitan immigrants since 1926. This crusty dude is of local vintage ... not from the motherland.  He can't pronounce "cacio" correctly because he was probably brought up with a dialect.  It's "ca-cheeo," not "ca-gee-uh."  Love all the blondies who want to culturally appropriate themselves to being Italian.  I've seen these types in language courses in h.s. and college and they can be pretty dumb. I should make it a point to be in NYC during San Gennaro.  The official day in Naples is September 19.  The NYC festival runs about 10 days.  I could get lunch or dinner in Little Italy on a daily basis.  But, take note that a la carte street food + NYC prices can make for a dent.  The a la carte pricing at Greek festivals in secondary cities adds up, so imagine how so in NYC.
    • A teacher asks her classroom of students how many are Trump Fans. All the kids want to be liked by the teacher and raise their hands except for Little Johnny. The teacher asks Little Johnny why he does not like Trump? Little Johnny replies, my mom is a Democrat, my dad is a Democrat and so I will be a Democrat too. The teacher irritated says to Little Johnny, so then if your mom is a Moron and your dad an Idiot, what would that make you? Little Johnny with a grin on his face looks at the teacher and says, "That would make me a Trump Fan!"
    • I will say that my Escalade Steering wheel with the built in knobs on the underside of the steering wheel are just a great comfortable grip for long road trips and confidence that it will not just slip in the hand when turning also on top of leather and heat.
