As the Diesel Emits: Former Volkswagen CEO Under Criminal Investigation, Chief Engineers Suspended

A Criminal Investigation Is Opened Into the Former VW CEO, While Three r&d Chiefs Are Suspended

If you didn't think the diesel scandal at Volkswagen could get any worse, think again.

Let's begin with the former CEO at Volkswagen, Martin Winterkorn. Reuters is reporting that German prosecutors have opened an investigation into Winterkorn into "allegations of fraud in the sale of cars with manipulated emissions data" based on ten unidentified individuals filing charges. Now Winterkorn has said that he wasn't aware of any wrongdoing on his part in light of this scandal.

There is a report from Automotive News Europe that says three r&d heads at Volkswagen have been suspended. The three are,

    • Audi development chief Ulrich Hackenberg
    • Porsche development head Wolfgang Hatz
    • VW brand r&d boss Heinz-Jakob Neusser

Those with keen eyes will notice two of these folks, Hackenberg and Hatz were rumored to be shown the door last week.

Now Hackenberg and Hatz previously ran units at the heart of the Volkswagen diesel scandal. Hackenberg was responsible for Volkswagen development from 2007 to 2013, while Hatz oversaw Volkswagen group's engine development from 2007 to 2011.

Audi and Volkswagen declined to comment.

    HA!

Like I said...corporate greed is what we should get rid of...

AND THAT is how we do it...

CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS LEADING TO CRIMINAL PROSECUTIONS LEADING TO GUILTY CRIMINAL JUDGEMENTS...

How can the buying public be aware of any wrong doing when commercials like these are played?

and even the LEGAL entities that test these cars have approved them...

As far as the consumer goes...VW AG is a very green company...

VW AG FRAUDED the BUYING PUBLIC....

THERE WAS NO WAY TO KNOW THAT...UNTIL THE HAMMER DROPPED.

UNTIL THE SKY FELL UPON VW AG's HEAD...

UNTIL THE FLOOR COLLAPSE UNDERNEATH THEM...

This is a response to another post in another thread as well...

If the evidence holds that these people KNEW and WILLFULLY FRAUDED the buying public as well as WILLFULLY KNOWING THAT THEIR CARS ARE POLLUTING and NOT WITHIN THE EPA's LIMITS....let these people rot in JAIL!!!

Finally make a bloody example of them so other corrupt EXECS and CEOs CEASE to take US for bloody idiots!!!

Company's and Corporations and the HUMANS THAT RUN THEM have a MORAL Obligation...an ETHICAL Obligation...to

    1. be  moral,

    2. be  honest and not false advertise

    3. to be just  and to treat its employees fairly giving them fair wages and safe environments to work in

    4. to respect the environment it does business in...

VW AG went wrong on 3/4 of those basic things...

There should be a criminal investigation.  Winterkorn stepping down and taking a $30 million bonus to retire is hardly punishment.  That is why these CEO's authorize stuff like this, when the $h! hits the fan, they jump ship with their golden parachute.  Same thing happens on Wall Street and elsewhere.  If theses guys went to jail, you wouldn't see this happen as much.

Will not matter much as we have seen extreme greed and still after prison they get out and still have millions to live very comfy. They need to take the CEO's take EVERYTHING from them and return them to the public as a poor person who has to work to support themselves.

I agree being fired and leaving with a 30 million bonus is not right.

    • Some songs are timeless and some of the older ones are so honest in their lyrics: "L.A. is a great big freeway  Put a hundred down and buy a car In a week, maybe two, they'll make you a star Weeks turn into years, how quick they pass And all the stars that never were Are parking cars and pumping gas" Classic!

    • Ditto to both ... I have heard one person make the comparison to the Lambo and it was during the time I had the rental. It's not very upright and I had my issue with the height of the door opening when entering and exiting the car.  It initially was VERY upright and kind of frumpy looking.
    • MECHANICAL PHOTOS This is an overall view of the engine bay This is the placard describing conformance to emission requirements Yep, count 'em ... there are 4 - - - - -  END OF PHOTOS
    • INTERIOR PHOTOS View of the front of the cabin from the driver's door ... this gives a clearer view of how the 2 main screens are placed on the dashboard View of the front of the cabin from the passenger's door This is the main instrument pod and, around the speed readout, the distribution of important data is clear (which seems to be how many pods are now organized, which is appreciated because setting up Bluetooth and all the controls takes a slight amount of time).  There are also green indicators for "ready" and "EV" mode At times, I did not care for the race car type vantage point from where seated and it took adjustment of the seat and the tilt steering wheel to get it closer to one's comfort level The console is clean and simple in its layout It's a tug to the left and forward for reverse ... and a tug to the left and rearward for drive This is the rear seating area of the passenger cabin I do like the roofline and the gullwing feature in the rear door ... this shows what over the shoulder visibility looks like The rear storage area is respectable and, with the roofline, it seems a little more vertical, so it was advantageous to put luggage on its sides Thankfully, there is this cover over the rear and its texture and attachment is similar to other cars ... and, in Toyota, it was similar to the one in their economy car Aygo that they sell in Europe
