    2027 BMW i3 Sedan: Neue Klasse 800V EV With 463 HP and 440-Mile Range

      The 2027 BMW i3 Sedan brings the Neue Klasse to the 3 Series with 800V architecture, 463 HP xDrive, 440-mile range, V2L/V2H/V2G bidirectional charging, and AI-powered Panoramic iDrive.

    Five decades BMW has been delivering the driving machine via their 3 Series. March 2026 BMW delivered the new i3 fully electric driving machine that they believe delivers on that sporty driving pleasure that their legacy has delivered for generations of auto enthusiast with a 21st century addition to the legacy with unique features.

    BMW calls this their Neue Klasse era. This first 800V all electric i3 series launches with the following points that BMW wants their current and new buyers to know:2027 BMW i3 Sedan front three-quarter view

    • The core of the brand reinterpreted: modern, timeless, and unmistakable.
    • Modern BMW 2.5-box silhouette with long wheelbase, short overhangs, and flared wheel arches.
    • New front-end design: kidney grille and four-eye light signature form a unified geometry-and-light element.
    • Driver-focused interior anchored by the BMW Panoramic iDrive and the free-cut central display.
    • Gen6 BMW eDrive technology with 800-volt architecture enabling 400kW DC charging and a projected 440 miles of range.
    • BMW Symbiotic Drive and available Level 2+ automated driving with intuitive human-vehicle assistance.

    BMW i3 50 xDrive Specifications

    The launch of the BMW i3 50 xDrive has the following specifications:

    • Electric motors on both axles
      • Combined output of 463 HP with maximum torque of 476 lb-ft
      • Their sixth generation eDrive technology
    • Estimated range of 440 miles on a single charge
      • New battery pack with cylindrical cells
      • High Energy density with flatter high voltage

    The front of the BMW 3 series sedan continues with the Neue Klasse distinctive look as also found on the 2026 BMW iX3 SUV.

    Exterior Design and Color Options

    The i3 sedan will continue with having the customizable lighting effects for the exterior allowing the owner to create their own Welcome and Goodbye animations depending on the equipment level. The optional BMW Iconic Glow exterior package offers Balanced, Relaxed, and Excited options or customize to their individual personal taste.

    The BMW i3 Sedan has 11 different exterior paint options available at launch with their newest M Le Castellet Blue color. The paint colors come in your choice of Solid, Frozen, and metallic finishes. This equates to gloss, matte, and metallic. 2027 BMW i3 Sedan rear three-quarter view in blue

    Interior and Neue Klasse Cockpit

    The Neue Klasse design language gives buyers an interior that is dynamic, airy, and modern with a driver-oriented, digital 21st century experience. This includes a complete redesigned user interaction, and a harmonious interplay of geometry, light and sound. BMW says this gives a digital and real content merge through their coordinated design of ambient light, and the graphics on the central display along with the BMW panoramic Vision.

    From the Climate comfort Panoramic glass roof to the large windows enclosing the interior, creates a comforting space flooded with light and openness feeling.

    2027 BMW i3 Sedan dashboard with Panoramic iDrive displayDriver orientation is one of precise intuitive experience due to the panoramic Vision display and optional 3D head-up display displayed directly into the line of sight for the driver. This eliminates the need for displays behind the steering wheel which is now completely redesigned. The driver has angled to them from the center of the dash what BMW calls free-cut central display.

    The i3 sedan comes with elegant seats that provide comfort and secure lateral support with optional sport seats. All seats can have optional multifunction features along with expressive designs and distinctive sport bolsters of choice. Between the seats is everything both driver and passenger would want from cup holders to inductive wireless charging, physical buttons, gear selector and more.

    From recycled materials and Vegan upholstery to leather are options for designing your interior. This interior is all supported by BMW OSx operating system that includes Amazon Alexa with AI technology supplying you your own BMW Intelligent Personal assistant that offers voice control over the i3.

    800V Technology and Smart Connectivity

    BMW offers the ability to connect your smartphone or smartwatch and use it as a preferred vehicle key. The new 800V EVs all use the Android Open-Source Project (AOSP). This 800V system is 20 times higher computer power than previous BMW EVs. The whole 800V system is updated via over the air updates.

    This BMW 800V all new system has L2+ driver assistance systems from self-driving to safety features. This new system also offers the new BMW Charging revolution that offers the following innovations:

    • Vehicle-to-Load (V2L): This turns the new BMW i3 into a mobile power bank that provides electricity directly from the high-voltage battery. For example, to operate an electric barbecue on a weekend trip or to charge the battery of an e-bike with up to 3.7 kW.

    • Vehicle-to-Home (V2H): Bidirectional charging turns the BMW i3 into a home energy storage system: With Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) in conjunction with the BMW Wallbox Professional and a photovoltaic system, vehicle charging costs and electricity costs throughout the household are reduced. For this purpose, excess energy from the photovoltaic system is temporarily stored in the vehicle battery and is later fed back into the house when there is no solar power.

    • Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G): V2G allows the BMW i3 to be integrated into the public power grid and feed energy from the vehicle's high-voltage battery back into the system. Individual control using the My BMW App is simple and transparent. Customers always have full control over their current and desired charge levels. Battery life is safeguarded by intelligent protection mechanisms.

    Intelligent Charging With NACS

    2027 BMW i3 Sedan NACS charging port close-upThe 800V i3 and iX3 comes with Intelligent charging flap. The charging port is located on the rear right side of the new BMW i3. It is possible to open the charging flap manually by simply pressing, but this is no longer necessary. Because the intelligent charging flap of the new BMW i3 opens automatically as soon as the customer's charging request is detected. One of the triggers for opening is AI-supported: If the customer walks towards a known or learned charging point, the movement path reveals the charging intention, whereupon the flap opens. If no charging cable is connected, the charging flap closes automatically – as it does after the charging process is complete or when the vehicle is ready to drive. The all new 800V EVs come with NACS ports by default now.

    That is of course we wake up and remove Idiot47, Kia/Hyundai move forward with their electric trucks that are in test mule format now and Ford / GM / Toyota Deliver as all have said they are working on compact / mid-size EV Trucks.

    I don't love the headlight area, but I feel like it is the kind of thing that could grow on my and look better in person. I appreciate them getting the kidney grills going in the correct direction again.

    I don't love that screen, at all. However, it may be the kind of thing that just works well for the driver but photographs like crap from straight on, because of the "odd" shape. 

    Those damn doorhandles. I understand the aero benefit of them, but I hate them.

    Why is it on the president for the manufacturers to make and sell the vehicles? Our President is a complete idiot, but I also don't exactly think it should be on the people to compensate the manufacturers to make these vehicles. They had like a 15 year runway to establish themselves in this market and all they drug their feet until the last minute. As soon as the government took their(our) $7500 off the table, all the manufactures feel the need to "reevaluate" their EV portfolio and future.

    Why is it on the president for the manufacturers to make and sell the vehicles? Our President is a complete idiot, but I also don't exactly think it should be on the people to compensate the manufacturers to make these vehicles. They had like a 15 year runway to establish themselves in this market and all they drug their feet until the last minute. As soon as the government took their(our) $7500 off the table, all the manufactures feel the need to "reevaluate" their EV portfolio and future. 

    I agree it should not be on the Government to fund this forever, but as long as they continue to give billions to the Oil industry, then why not give to the green / EV industry.

    Biggest problem is that Idiot47 personal HATE for EVs had him waste Billions yanking out all the installed chargers and his personal IQ 79 Stupidity had him then also waste billions more on trying to turn everything around that has been done by past presidents rather than focus on governing and doing the right thing. More taxpayer money has been wasted on him attempting to go back to the 60's in all things and hurting this country.

    At this point, HE IS Hurting the auto industry and as long as he is in office, he will do everything possible to hurt the companies that have created jobs and spent billions to design and develop new autos. Getting him out of the way can then under a stable federal hand allow companies to innovate and compete on products.

    I'm going to reserve judgement on this until I see it. I think the pictures may be not doing it justice.  The recent BMWs look better in person than in photos.  They got the GM curse.

    What specifically do you not like about them?

    I love the pop outdoor handles on my EV9. They are way better than the stupid approach Cadillac took.

    Cadillac leaves them out and are a danger as they are a hook that can easily get broken.

    Yes they retract when you get in to drive or lock it, but when the auto sits unlocked, they stay out and I know how easy it is to possibly break them as I was going between auto's at my 24hr fitness this week and thought it weird that they were out and as I went between, the door handle hooked my work out short pocket and bent a bit before I unhooked myself.  As I walked to enter the gym, a person came out and locked it, clearly forgetting they had left it unlocked. 

    To me a hook type door handle is more dangerous than the circle loop door handle that pops out of my EV9.

    Now I do get the fact that some companies like Tesla have failed to make sure the door handles pop out for emergency release / escape. Cadillac is also guilty of this for both outside and inside door handles.

    Kia / Hyundai / Genesis did the following:

    Mechanical backup access:

    There is a hidden physical key slot behind the driver’s door handle area.

    Using the physical key lets you mechanically unlock the door even if the handle doesn’t pop out or during a power outage.

    All EVs have a manual interior door release that works without power so that people inside can always get out no matter the situation.

    This is all on my quick info card on the EV and I checked online with the Kia digital manuals. Hyundai and Genesis also say the same thing when searching online.

    Interesting, programmable door handles, if you unlock the auto, they will stay out, but if you approach it while locked with the fob, they will pop out and if within 3 min you do not open a door, pull back in keeping the auto locked.

    The auto industry also has the ability to just "do the right thing" on their own, right? i get that the president is a POS and he makes bad decision after bad decision, but this also needs to be put onto the auto manufacturers. They had 15 years to get to the point of building affordable BEVs with adequate range, but they sat on their hands until like 2019 or so, while getting our tax dollars. Now that they aren't getting our extra tax dollars they just decide to cancel them? That sounds exactly like the "corporate greed" that all of us regular people are sick and tired of.

    The fact that it is something oh so earily broken. They're unnecessarily funky to operate. Oh, and we get ice here in the Midwest and I can guarantee they are, at the very least, finicky when it's 0 degrees F and there's ice on the vehicle. 

    The fact that there's even discussions on a door handle and how it operates, means it's been over-thought. These stupid flush door handles very likely would not stop me from buying something with them, but that doesn't mean I have to like that function.

    Sorta true sorta not.  It implies that Tesla had some sort of magic but what it really was was funding from the legacies. For many of the early years of Tesla, the only way they made money was buy selling clean energy credits to the legacy makers. Big gas trucks literally funded Tesla's growth. The legacies didn't get tax dollars for EVs until later. The Bolt was developed with GM knowing it would lose money on it because GM would never be able to sell the clean energy credits like Tesla did.  The big tax incentives same later after 2020 during the Biden administration and it was the only way the legacies didn't lose their shirt on EVs.

    But if you think about it. Ford, GM, Chrysler, Nissan, Volkswagen, and Subaru can't even make a profitable mid-size sedan right now, much less make money on EVs.

    The things is, there was not a single thing stopping the legacies from jumping into the EV world head-on also. They knew they were funding Tesla and they could have stopped the bleeding early on with investing into BEVs. They had the ability to offset their own efficiencies, but chose not to. Right? Or was there something in writing that wouldn't allow that?

    There was no money in it and except for Tesla, there's still no money in it. Even the Chinese EV manufacturers are being propped up by their government or by income from other lines of business (BYD is a huge leader in heavy trucks, buses, and construction equipment).  And I'm having serious doubts about Tesla now too. Tesla is alive on hype alone. 

    Less then 10 years prior all three of the domestics were facing annihilation unless the government stepped in. It was, and still is, cheaper to just pay for clean energy credits from somewhere else than it is to spin up an entire EV platform. 

    Even a gasoline platform can take a billion dollars to start, that's how much Sergio spent on the Giorgio Platform to get two Alfas, two Jeeps, and the Maserati Grecale.  That's what Benz spends on the S-Class platform. In the era after 2008, none of them were willing to take chances on unprofitable product. 

    GM and Hyundai should really get a lot more credit for what they've done with their EVs.  GM's EVs don't make the headlines as much as everyone else's but the flexibility of their platform is unmatched by even Tesla. 

    Ford should get a lot more credit with the Lightning and Mach-E.  The Lightning may not have been the absolute best solution, but it was a fantastic result for the incredibly short development time it had.  People look at the Lighning as a failure today, but look how fast Ford got that to market and, aside from some product mix mishaps, it's a perfectly capable truck for family duty.

    • New York - At the 2026 New York International Auto Show, Kia introduced the 2027 EV3, an entry-level electric SUV that brings the design language and technology of the EV9 into a smaller, more attainable package. The EV3 arrives in five trims — Light, Wind, Land, GT-Line, and GT — with a targeted on-sale date of late 2026. Pricing will be announced closer to launch. Two Batteries, Real Range The EV3 is built on Kia's 400V E-GMP platform with a choice of two battery options. The entry Light trim uses a 58.3 kWh pack with front-wheel drive and up to a Kia-estimated 220 miles of range. The remaining four trims step up to an 81.4 kWh battery with up to a Kia-estimated 320 miles of range in FWD configuration. All-wheel drive is optional on Wind and Land and standard on GT-Line and GT. Output is 261 horsepower on AWD models and 288 horsepower on the GT, which adds a sport-tuned suspension and steering along with neon green brake calipers, seatbelts, and interior accents. The 58.3 kWh battery charges from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 29 minutes on a DC fast charger; the 81.4 kWh battery takes approximately 31 minutes. A native NACS port is standard, and Plug and Charge capability allows charging to begin by simply plugging in after a one-time setup in the Kia Access app. EV9 Design Language The EV3's exterior borrows directly from the EV9, including the star map DRL, hidden rear door handles, and flush-mounted roof rails. Standard wheels are 17-inch alloys; GT-Line and GT step up to 19-inch wheels, with the GT receiving unique 19-inch wheels to match its green caliper accents. A U.S.-exclusive Nightfall appearance package is available on certain trims, adding gloss black wheels, black emblems, bridge-type roof rails, and a dark gray interior. Interior, Cargo, and V2L Inside, the EV3 mirrors the EV9's cockpit with a nearly 30-inch panoramic display: dual 12.3-inch screens plus a 5-inch climate display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on all trims, and the ccNC system supports over-the-air updates. Available entertainment includes Netflix and YouTube streaming, along with display themes for Disney, Marvel, the NBA, and FIFA World Cup 2026. Cargo capacity is 26.1 cubic feet behind the second row, expanding to 56.5 cubic feet with the seats folded. The EV3 also includes a 0.9 cubic foot frunk. Rear seat backs recline up to 39 degrees. Available Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) allows the battery to power external devices; available Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) via a Wallbox bidirectional charger can return power to the home during outages. Kia's i-Pedal 3.0 one-pedal driving system is standard and now also functions in reverse. Safety All EV3 models include eight standard airbags including rear side airbags, Forward Collision Avoidance Assist with Junction Turning, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning, and Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go.     • New York - The second-generation 2027 Kia Seltos made its North American debut at the 2026 New York International Auto Show, arriving longer, wider, and with something no competitor in the compact crossover segment can match: three distinct powertrain options. Three Powertrains The base engine carries over as the 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder, paired with Kia's Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). Available in LX, S, EX, and X-Line trims, it comes with front-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive. Step up to the X-Line and the 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder develops 190 horsepower, routed through an 8-speed automatic with standard all-wheel drive. Rounding out the lineup is a new hybrid powertrain, pairing a 1.6-liter four-cylinder with a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Seltos HEV also introduces e-AWD, a first for Kia on a hybrid SUV, delivering on-demand rear-axle power without a traditional driveshaft. Bigger and More Capable The new Seltos grows in every dimension compared to the outgoing model, with the wheelbase increasing by 2.4 inches. That extra footprint translates into more interior space, including an inch of additional rear legroom, along with gains in headroom, shoulder room, and hip room. Cargo capacity behind the second row is an estimated 27.8 cubic feet, expanding to 64.1 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. Ground clearance rises from 7.3 to an available 8.1 inches. X-Line models add a new Multi-terrain AWD mode for light off-road use. Styling borrows cues from Kia's flagship Telluride, including amber DRL framing the front fascia, bold angles, and available auto-flush door handles. New exterior colors include Terrain Brown, Frost Blue, and Snow White Pearl with a contrasting black roof.     • Again, loving owning the Camry Hybrid, I plan on full EV next car.  The world's opinion will not go back, nor should it.  You do motorcycles, I do Bicycles. Riding around, even in deep red areas I am seeing a TON of EV's here in Ohio.  Its like Diesel vs Steam for railroads. At a certain point, even if you are Norfolk and Western and have tons of near free coal, or Pennsylvania with advanced steam locomotives, Diesel just makes infinite sense. Likewise, EV's. ICE is dead man walking.
