It might look the same, but there are big changes coming for the next-generation GMC Acadia

Car and Driver got their hands on a set of spy shots showing off the next-generation GMC Acadia crossover. This is an important model for GMC as it currently is the third best-selling model in the lineup with more than 80,000 Acadias sold in the past couple of years.

So what do the pictures reveal? It seems GMC isn't changing the basic design of the Acadia's exterior. But the interior shows some drastic changes. The dashboard looks similar to the one used on the Canyon with a compressed centerstack and a large screen with GMC's Intellilink.

The new Acadia along with its sister models, the Buick Enclave and Chevrolet Traverse, will use a new GM platform called C1XX or “Chi” platform. This platform will incorporate a number of weight-saving features, hopefully solving one of the biggest problems with GM's large crossovers; being a bit too heavy.

Power will come from a newer version of the 3.6L V6 with over 300 horsepower. There is also talk of a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder. Transmissions will include a six and an eight-speed automatic.

The Hyundai Santa Cruz has been talked about off and on since its debut as a concept in 2015. But it seems the truck is finally coming to fruition as some new spy shots reveal.
Compared to the concept which was an extended cab, Hyundai is using a crew cab layout. The bed is quite short, possibly around four to five feet being our guess. Up front, the Santa Cruz gets the same front end treatment as the refreshed 2021 Santa Fe - wider front grille and new headlight treatment.
Following in the footsteps of the Honda Ridgeline, the Santa Fe will be based on a unibody platform. In this case, the Santa Fe. This likely means power will come from either the 2.4L four-cylinder with 185 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque or turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder with 235 hp and 260 lb-ft. Our money is on the latter engine.
Expect more details to come out on the Santa Cruz before its launch next year.

The rumors that have been swirling around for the past year have been laid to rest this morning. General Motors announced that Hummer will be returning as GMC-branded electric pickup truck boasting 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque. 0-60 mph will take three seconds. Those hoping for details about battery capacity, charging, and price will need to keep waiting until May 20th when GMC will officially show off the truck. Before then, GMC will preview the truck in a thirty second ad during the Super Bowl on Sunday.
“GMC builds premium and capable trucks and SUVs and the GMC HUMMER EV takes this to new heights. We are excited to debut our revolutionary zero-emissions truck during the biggest night in TV advertising," said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick and GMC in a statement.
Production will take place at GM's Detroit-Hamtramck plant, with sales beginning next fall.

    • around 50 at night and mid 60's during the day, summer has not really shown up except for a 2 week stretch in July.
    • Boy it’s been a hot week.....
    • I saw one of these and thought I could use one:   You don't want one, eh?  Graduate of Wazza Matta U?
    • The new Elantra is just around the bend and it stylistically follows in the footsteps of the new Sonata.  That's a thumbs down.  It looks like they're trying to reinvent their design vocabulary and niche.  The exterior views are consistent but the interior views are not.  I've seen two renditions of their interiors and dashboards.  One is better than the other. I see the Accent going away.  Too bad.  The Accent is being discontinued for the Canadian market.  I'm not sure if we (the U.S.A.) are included in this.  There are very few of them on the lots, while Elantras, the current one, are plentiful.  I surprisingly enjoyed how nicely two rentals drove and sipped fuel.  The only heartburn I have is that it went from a 6-speed automatic to a CVT.  Yep, CVTs and "laptop left open" infotainment centers give me heartburn.
