Rumorpile: Lamborghini Urus Decision Still In the Air

    • The Lamborghini Urus... Still Not In Production Yet

A decision on whether or not the Lamborghini Urus will transition from concept to production model has been put on hold once more. A source tells Autocar that Lamborghini's parent company is a bit hesitant on giving the green light on this 2+2 crossover due to a possible downturn for the world’s economy and the unrest in the Middle East.

“We are convinced the Urus can significantly boost global sales, but the financial conditions need to be sound. Right now, there are signs we may be heading for a downturn in the markets due to various factors, including trouble in the Middle East, although this is not reflected in the current sales situation, which puts us ahead of 2013,” the source said.

Now that isn't to say the Urus will get shelved. The source tells Autocar that discussions are still going on with the hope of “a clear view towards eventual production”.

This is part of VW's strategy to become the world's largest automaker by 2018; by doing the same thing GM did - sell a lot of SUVs.

This is a copy/paste of the GM T360 Trailblazer/Envoy/Bravada/Rainier/Ascender/9-7x platform.

At a higher-end of the market, VW would sell off of the PL71 platform that makes the Touareg/Cayenne/Q7/Urus/Bentley EXP 9 F

The luxury market is becoming more dynamic.  The R&D is complete.  Whether the marketing and sales strategy is fully realized is another story.

With the clock winding down on production of the Holden Commodore, Chevrolet dealers are snapping the remaining lot of SS models being exported to the U.S. Wheels has learned from Chevrolet that the extra 1,000 SS models Holden was planning to build for the U.S. market have been snapped up.
“All US dealer orders are in for the allocated production of the 2017 Chevrolet SS. This includes any additional units that were confirmed for production last year,” said Chevrolet.
Originally, Holden was planning on building 2,000 SS for the U.S. However, the large demand by dealers for the last SS models caused Holden to add an additional 1,000 models for export.

Back in November, we first learned about Mercedes-AMG's next standalone model possibly known as the GT4, a four-door coupe. The new model would be previewed by a concept before going on sale in 2019. We now have some new details on this model.
Autocar reports the GT4 concept will be shown next month at the Geneva Motor Show to celebrate the 50th anniversary of AMG. A production model will soon follow a year later for European markets.
The GT4 will serve as the replacement for the CLS Shooting Brake and use a modified version of Mercedes' modular rear architecture (MRA). According to sources at AMG, the GT4's variant of MRA will come with 'unique' wheelbase and track width measurements. The GT4 will also utilize aluminum and hot-formed high-strength steel in an effort to help cut weight.
Power will come from a 4.0L V8 biturbo engine that will be offered in two states of tune - the highest one offering 600-plus horsepower. A performance-oriented version of Mercedes' 4Matic all-wheel drive will come standard. There is also talk about adding integrated starter generator (ISG) that would add a brief boost of power along with improving fuel economy.
A 3.0L turbocharged V6 is possibly in the cards as well.

I have one co-worker who has been a thorn in my side for the past 6 months.... but I have to admit that when I need something done that is in his area of expertise, he goes after it like an angry rabid chihuahua and gets it done.
