As the Diesel Emits: EPA Gives the Go-Ahead for Volkswagen To Sell Repaired TDI Models

Can Volkswagen interest you in a fixed TDI?

More good news for Volkswagen as the EPA has finally given the ok for the company to start selling repaired TDI vehicles. Bloomberg has learned from Volkswagen Group of America spokeswoman Jeannine Ginivan that dealers can sell TDI models from the 2015 model year once they have been updated with new software. The fix will also include new hardware for the diesel engine, but dealers don't have to wait for the parts to come in early next year.

"We are still finalizing the details of this program and will provide more information on its implementation at the appropriate time,” said Ginivan.

It should be noted this is only a symbolic step as only 67,000 vehicles are eligible for this - 12,000 of which are currently sitting on dealer lots. The big question is whether or not anyone is interested in buying a Volkswagen TDI vehicle considering all of the trouble it has brought.

PASS, I bet they end up having to deep discount them and then only hard core diesel fans will then buy.

Gonna be very hard to sell in Washington as the state has termed these auto's as non-compliant and as such you have to pay an extra fee yearly to drive them. Nothing like being nailed hundreds of dollars to drive a polluting auto. I doubt they will be around here as our tabs are already expensive.

We've got multiple deposits on just about every remaining new 2015 we have. It's going to be nuts seeing how sales of these things go.

I think they will sell pretty quickly.

Volkswagen has release the pricing on the redesigned 2020 Passat and now it is roughly $2300 cheaper than the 2019 model.  It also becomes one of the least expensive midsize sedans you can buy, clocking in just $250 more expensive than the least expensive 2020 Subaru Legacy.
Some of that cost savings comes from carrying over a bunch of the bones of the car from 2019.  The platform is the same, not updated to the new MQB platform like China is getting with their version.  The 2.0-liter Turbo carries over as well, albeit with some improvement to the torque. Horsepower remains the same at 174 hp, while torque jumps 22 lb.-ft to 206.  The transmission remains a 6-speed automatic driving only the front wheels.
The 2020 Passat gets and exterior and interior refresh with new materials in the cabin and an updated instrument cluster.
The trims will be S, SE, R-Line, and SEL.  The cheapest S model still comes with forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert. The SE, which starts at $26,765, gets additional chrome trim, keyless entry, push-button ignition, leather wrapped steering wheel, leatherette over the headed front seats, dual zone climate control, rain-sensing wipers, adaptive cruise, and lane keep assist.  The R-Line, which starts at $29,565, comes with all of the above, plus a standard sunroof, alarm, 19-inch alloy wheels, a body kit, and paddle shifter.  The top of the line SEL, at $32,015, comes with high beam assist, leather seats, heated rear seats, navigation, parking sensors, and a Fender audio system.
The 2020 Passat will continue to be manufactured in Chattanooga, TN and arrives in dealers in the next few weeks.

    • The CT5's trunk is anything but huge, it's 11.9 cubic feet.  For reference, a Corolla's trunk is 13.0 cubic feet.  More appropriately; C Class trunk volume: 12.6 cubic feet E Class trunk volume: 13.1 cubic feet 3 Series trunk volume: 17.0 cubic feet 5 Series trunk volume: 14.5-18.7 cubic feet Audi A4 trunk volume: 13.0 cubic feet Audi A6 trunk volume: 13.7 cubic feet
    • @riviera74 Helllllooooooo Baby!  This is the Big Bopper speakin'.    Im here to tell ya that you should um...get ready to  dust off your Old Glory, because you promised me... Tesla is just about there...being an American Icon!!!     And if Tesla succeeds in building a factory in Germany to build Teslas and zee Germans buy Teslas...  There is no need for Tesla to outsell Toyota and GM.  In other words, Tesla does not need to become the world's biggest car maker.  Hell, Tesla does not need to become the word's largest car maker now, EV or otherwise.  But you should be proud, that if Tesla gains ground in Germany by having SOME market share in Germany by having Germans build and buy Teslas over VW and Audi, BMW and Mercedes...boy...that be something, right?   Tesla is rocking those Germans like a HURRICANE!!!
    • I was going to say, never looked back? Have you seen the trunks in the CT6 and CT5 or even the 2008 or 2014 CTS? They're YUGE!! Lol!   CT6   CT5   2014 CTS   2008 CTS
