Ecotec piston slap???

BamBam

Recommended Posts

EcoTech 2.2 VVT in my Wife's '05 Cobalt doesn't make the noise, and the 2.4 and 2.2 are the same family of engines. Maybe its just one of those fluke-type things that you hear about every now and again. Like a friend of mine who thought he needed a motor mount for his Taurus, when all he needed was the bolt that secured the motor mount to the engine (the mount still looked like brand new, just missing on bolt). Its just one of those weird fluke things that isn't SUPPOSED to happen, but it does.

I was under the impression that only the 2.4L had VVT...

The 2.2 doesn't have VVT. Only the 2.4 and 2.0 turbo Ecotecs have it.

The wife has a 05 2.2 G5 Pursuit as well. Engine has been flawless and noise free so far. Very disappointed in my 2.4 as I got rid of my 02 Grand Am V6 because I hated the piston slap it had.

Just wait until the exhaust manifold starts to leak, you wont notice the piston slap.

If and when I see a leaking Ecotec exhaust manifold in our shop then maybe I'll start to worry. It happens so few and far between, it's not a concern in the least.

Take it back to the dealership soon...you have a problem.

The one time I've heard of this ( 05 Cavalier), about 3 months later it had serious

engine problems....MAKE SURE YOU GET IT CHECKED.

I have a total of 5 Ecotec engines in my family...and none have had any issues

so far....

So you could say I'm the Ecotec expert at the moment... :)
