Good News, Bad News...

Saw your auction. I suspect most people who would pick up a vintage car on eBay like the thought of a one-way plane trip to wherever the car is located and a romantic cross-country home in your new/old Merry Oldsmobile. Your leaking fuel pump eighty-sixes that notion as having to fix what you just bought is not romantic or idealistic at all. Again, not your fault, just the likely standpoint of the average eBay classic buyer - he's either wants to restore something rare or drive it home like it came off the lot for a bargain. Let's face it - its not a 442. Its not a Hurst. Its not a Toronado. Its not Chuck Berry's car. And its not a 1982 Ninety-Eight coupe on 23" rims and 23sq meters of rust that sold for nearly twice your reserve last week. Its stupid, but that's the market apparently.

You could always try selling it locally, but I think a car like yours is best kept with you. You enjoy it, you care for it, and honestly, few others would.

I don't know how 'bad' your Seville is, but try selling it locally. If its that bad, part it out. You've got the room to do it. Plus, much of the mechanicals are interchangable with Eldorado and some DeVilles. Don't know how much the Datsun is worth, but it can't be much either. Like with my car and me, its worth more to you than to someone else who's probably going to beat it to hell anyway.

Good luck in any case! And if you do fix the pump, I'll buy it for half what I'm offering Camino for his GTO - $48.00. I'll let you sleep on it.

I'm with Fly, and it's why our cars stick around in our family. Some moron would just destory them. I'd rather hang on to them since they have sentimental value anyway. I'd miss them, even the Shadow.

By the way, what kind of condition is the STS in? ANy pics?

I did almost buy a Datsun P/U about three months ago.

Looked just like this one but lemon yellow.

You do not want the STS. Trust me. You can have it for $1800 complete

if you realy want but it needs a lot of work. It needs a windshield, tires,

a battery, intake gasket & some other odds & ends.

I bought the "Arnott" air-ride suspension/struts/shock replacement kit for

all four corners but it needs to be installed so the ass is draggin' right now.

The car will do 129mph on the highway all day long (not kidding either)

but it also has a nasty oil leak, you gotta add like a quart per 150 miles.

Some jackass switched from synthetic to regular motor oil and f@#ked the

car before I ever bought it... it has 147,000 on it. In the last 18 months

I have driven it less than 200 miles.

You saw it in the car port right behind the Datusn at the "T.W. meeting"

remember? It's emerald green. It's in the car port next to the Super 88.

FYI: It gets 18mpg if driven like it's stolen but the Northstar takes Premium.

I guess if you added a quart ofm oil every week you could get another

couple years out of it.... the heated seats & all power options work, I installed

a new trunk pull down and two new wheel bearings last year. The CD changer

is F*** thiough. If you seriously wanted it I'd sell it to you for $1500, but it's

probably better that I part it out for like $3000.

Speaking of the Super 88 I got home last night, had dinner and immediatelly

got to work looking for part time jobs. The way I figured it I'd keep the

Super 88, :) and buy the Buick as well! If I could part out the '97 STS for

$2000 I would only need $1800 which means 200 hours working at $10 an

hour at some brainless job at nights. So in other words, 8pm-12pm M-F for

10 weeks = $2000.

The guy with the Buick is not hurting money wise, he's ALSO a lot like me

where he's selling the car but he wants it to go to the right owner. When the

car was in Hemmings he was approached by a guy who wanted to chop it up

into a pro-street of some sort and Mr. L was not too keen on that.

I'll set up a payment plan with him and as money's coming in I'll pay him off.

then by April I've got my '59 ready to go!

And then I got a call from a gentleman in Kansas who is still interested in the

car, we havve not discussd price yet but there's a big chance he'll buy the

Super 88 off me in the next week or so. We'll see.

Your friend's LeSabre that you were refering to is the closest to the car I'm looking

at out of everything on the net. You're right BTW, very rare to see a 2dr LeSabre

& more often than not the brightwork on the door/greenhouse is NOT present when

it comes to 2dr posts, I talked to Mr. L last night it seems I've got a few weeks to

come up with the money.... so Keeping the Super 88 and buying the B-59 might be

what I end up doing, I need a quick way to come up with $3800.

I'm considering throwing the Datsun on Craigslist (WMJ still want it?) & even selling

some of my car "junk" off. Better still maybe I should keep my crap and get a part

time job at nights doing something midless. My daytime job is stressfull enough.

It gets about 24 with me driving it pretty hard, but it also needs work too.

The way things are going I might have to drive that again for the time

being, it's still registered & insured.

That car is such a thorn in my side! "I hava da buyerz remorse!"

Take away the $h!ty tires, smashed windshield, horrific oil leak,

torn front fascia and craptastic battery terminals and install the

Arnott suspension I bought and you have quite a decent ride.

Not anything that can hold a candle to a new rear-drive STS but

it certainly still has massive power. Amazing with 147K miles

that engine stil pulls like a bat out of hell.
