The Phazer & or Radar Detectors

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. After receiving several steep tickets in the past couple years for speeding... a few of them where I was lucky to have gotten away with being radared at like 95mph since I had been doing 100+ I've broken down and bought the Phazer. I do not trust radar detectors since I've heard too many storiess of them giving NO warning at all. NOw i'm kicking myself since the archives are gone and I had not given so much as a glance at the Radar detector thread. Anyone else own a Phazer? I've got my plugged in and since I do not own a radar/laser gun I can't verify it's effectiveness. What's the word on these things? Do they really scramble the signal and make it impossible for he cop to radar your car? And if so do Cops usually just pull you over anyway and write you up as "estimated"? Any advice/testimonials would be awsome. Also what was the consencus/final word on radar detectors? Is the Valentine realyl as good sa they say it is? The instruction manual for the Phazer says to use a radar detector alongside the pahzer for maximum effectiveness.

I have a radar detector, but after driving a truck with a CB in it for the past two months, I have decided that my car needs a CB. Nothing beats the eyes on #19 because when there is a smokey out there, everybody knows about it. Only minus is that you have to have an ugly antenna on your roof or trunk...

radar detectors are nice, i used to have one but they are not reliable, i had a gun fired right in front of my car, to test it, and it didnt so much as flinch my cb is nice cuz it saves on cell phone bills but i need to get a new one ny cb is from 1980 something and it has the whole metal casing telescoping antenna, and there is no external mike, you have to hold the entire unit up to your mouth, i dont use it to hear cops cuz its channels are changed by a manual dial like a black and white tube does,

Never heard of it, Sixty8... But it sounds like it is not a radar detector and just a laser jammer. MT says "Be advised: Jamming or attempting to jam a police radar gun is a felony carrying fines up to $75,000." However "When deployed, especially in conjunction with a high-performance conventional radar/LIDAR detector, jammers can neutralize many laser guns within their legal operating parameters." Anyways, yes, the Valentine One is as good as they say. It's biggest downfall is its price. Ergonomics and POP mode sensitivity are the only catagories it scored lower than the competition in. The Escort Passport 8500 is cheaper and almost as good. Either one would be an excellent choice... but if price doesn't matter ($399 vs $299) go for the Valentine. Also, ask Nick about some of this stuff. He actually owns a Valentine... I'm just reading a one year old MT test...

Well, as some of you may know, I recently bought the V1 radar detector...I couldn't be more happier...It is a very sensitive radar detector...picks up on the slightest frequencies...it can get annoying at times especially around gorcery stores, but it has a couple different setting to filter out the useless radar bands...It's a great unit and has paid for itself and then some...saved my ass quite a few times...The only thing with radar detectors is that they can't tell if "instant-on" or laser is in the area unless it is being used, so you have to hope that a cop is using it on someone else before he uses it on you...it's instantaneous so obviously the radar won't tell if it is on before it is used, but when it is, it picks it up really easily...You can also get Laser/radar jammers...they can be pricey, costing upwards of 1000 bux in some cases, but they work, and if you get a speeding ticket with one you can send it in and the company will usually pay for it (of course that doesn't take the points of your record)...But my V1 works very well...It better for how much I paid for it, but it's well worth it...The V1 and the passport escort 8500 are probably the 2 best detectors on the market...I like the V1 and find that it is very easy to use and works better, but I guess it all comes down to personal preference...but they do work...you get what you pay for...oh and about the pop...I'm still not sure what that even is, but the V1 has full time pop protection from the second you plug it in...other detectors you generally have to mess around with the settings and whatnot to get it to work...and from what I have read V1 has the best pop protection...but i dont even really know what pop is anyways...if you are reading reviews on detectors...try to stay away from reviews where they test all of the detectors in the same car at the same time...some detectors emit frequencies that can sometimes throw off other detectors and it's just not a very good, thorough test if they are all being tested in the same car all at once...Also take into consideration the color of your car...radar bounces off lighter colors such as white so it may be harder for the detector to get readings in some cars because of their color, and also sunlight affects it also...some cars the radar will do very poorly in due to tinting or coating on the windshield that comes stock from the manufacturer...There are lots of variables that affect radar detector performance, but for the most part as long as you invest in the right product, you wont be sorry... Oh, and about the ergonomics of the V1...I could never understand what the problem with it was...it is very easy to use and control...there is only 1 button basically which is the mute/volume knob (you hold it down to change logic modes) but other than that, it takes care of everything by itself...plug it in and you're ready to go...couldn't be any easier... Some of my worst Speeding tickets are from my Oldsmobile Achieva, S-10 Blazer & the Fleetwood Brougham. I've never gottten a speeding ticket in the Camaro, nor did I get one in the G/Fs Mazda MX3 or my old Yellow Firebird. Later when it was flat black I got a warning for doing donuts in an empty parking lot covered wiht ice & snow. The solution for me is not an inconspicuous car. If the Silver Brougham is not un-sporty enough than what is? I anit ever driving a Taurus or some Camcord. Mike: I've seen Centurys pulled over along wiht mini vans and even a Geo Metro once. BV: "The Phazer II Laser/Radar Jammer" is illegel in 7 states... Utah Virginia Oklahoma Minesota Calif. Nebraska Washiongton D.C. Here in Mass, NH, CT & Maine (where I travel the most) it is 100% FCC legal and not banned. Now as far as CB radios I've got one and it seems to me that the damn thing is silent 99.5% of the time. Channel 12, 18, 19, 40.. they're al white noise out here in N.E.

good thing i drive a van right now, they dont even see me in my blood red van of doom heh

channel nine should be the emergency reponse channel, check that but it may be different in your states for cb

and nick, radar is sound, not light, so color, and light quality make no diffence as far as i would think that phisics are involved, and laser guns are in falliable so dont bother trying to fool them

it may make a difference as far as with a saturn has a plastic body, or fiberglass body or carbon fiber body because of the different density of materials,

if you want a good tip, however, paint your liscence plate with a few coats of clear coat, it has been mentioned to me that it prevents red light cameras from taking the picture, im not sure how it works or it if it really does because i do not use it, i drive safely, but if you are willing to try it and risk accidents and tickets, go ahead Edited by mute

Laser jammers actually work very well from what I have gathered...highly illegal, but they work. As far as trying to fool them goes it isn't hard...especially because how they are used greatly determines the accuracy....a laser gun has to be pretty precise, so it's all up to the user...any reflections or the slightest wobble (say the cop has a shaky hand) could throw it way off... hmm, as far as i know laser guns fire out a quick laser and it bounces of before something such as a wobble can affect it, kinda like an ultra fast shutterspeed on a camera, its not within the visible range of light so colors and suck wont affect, it doesnt see color, it bounces of different surfaces and doesnt even see color of paint, laser jammers ive never heard of, but as far as i know the laser guns are infallible the users are certified to use them and also in order to be certified, at least in my area, you also have to be able to determine speed optically without the aid of a device, that means that in order to be certified with a laser or radar gun, you must be able to determine speed with your own two eyes within 2 mph , thats also viable evifence in court for such tickets as well in my area so its not worth it to try to jam anything, drive smart if ya wanna drive fast, your gonna get lucky or get caught, as far as i know laser=infalliable radar=detectable there are other types of speed traps and if your smart, you dont get caught

Or a Crown Vic to spoof the cops? They'd never pull over one of their own. Or a taxi.

Around here, sporty imports get nabbed the most. SUVs close behind. I've seen only a handful of fullsize Buicks and Oldsmobiles pulled over, msotly rattletraps from the 70s with 10 people inside.

I haven't got puled over yet.. (thankfully) but I have recieved quite a few dirty looks from the local cops.

Most of the time I see the usual tricked out imports/cavaliers get pulled over as well and suvs I see are pretty commonly pulled over.
My buddy who drives a 92 Jeep Wrangler was pulled over and the cop said he was doing 90mph.. when in fact my friend was only going about 75ish.. (55mph zone) but the cop wasn't clocking him, just following him and pacing his speed aprarently. Luckly for my friend, the cop didn't show up for his court date so the ticket was dropped.

i actually considered buying an impala intercepter, white with the black molding and the cop wheels. and putting in a cb scare the crap out of my buddies at parties anyone who likes that, take it, i would love to hear the stories of that car im prolly getting a rtuck however, most likely a 2000 dakota reg cab reg bed, rwd, dropping it a couple of literal inches and putting new wheels tires, cosmetically that would be it besides what i always do and i dont have to repeat that ive never received those looks but i know where they are, my buddies a cop and he radios me on our own private fequency to tell me if im clear for speeding

Oh! Damn I can't believe I forgot about this!!! I kind of sort of "know" this kid with an ex-State Trooper Caprice. 1995 or 96. He still has it painted in the original blue and gray but the numbers and lettering has been removed. He drives the piss out of the car and is always seen on 495. The other day he was on the side of the road pulled over by a real Statie in a CV. I was like WTF? I rubber necked and I dropped my speed down just in case.

And yes Fly a Crown Vic is something I would consider buying. Possibly even new. Edited by Sixty8panther
