  1. Thanks for the input guys.It sounds like 6192 is a model of coil spring I should look for. Just for some clarification, I had both the rear and front shocks replaced at the same time and it's just the front that sits really high which is why I'm assuming they're big block springs. I did take it to a local shop and inquired about them being cut and the guy there even showed me while the car was up on the lift that the top and bottom of the coil secure the spring in place and he didn't recommend cutting them.
  2. Quick summary: I need to factory (or equivalent) replacement springs for a 1965 Impala SS Convertible 283 Long detailed story: About 2 years ago I had ordered parts for my 65 Impala from some website (i think it was impalaparts.com but not 100% sure) and I had a local shop install these parts (shocks, springs, & almost a whole suspension kit). The work was done in Late November so I was getting ready to put it away for the winter. When the work was finished I noticed that the front was up pretty high and the shop explained to me that after putting some miles on them it will drop to a proper height. Myself not being mechanically sound, I believed it. Fast forward a year has passed and the front end is still up higher than it should. After some looking into I figured out that perhaps big block springs were shipped instead. I dragged my feet on this and obviously has gone way past to the point where I can contact the website where I got them from for an exchange so I'm eating up that expense and just want to get these corrected and maybe sell off the other springs. To make sure I get the correct part this time, I've come here. I found some from some Google searches that I think may be the right size but just want to be sure. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003HPJ0L0/ http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000CORVII/ http://www.amazon.com/Elgin-Industries-6192-Coil-Spring/dp/B004A1XAUM/ I realize Amazon may not be a place one would go for classic car parts however my money is tight now and I have a $100 gift card I can use (considering I'll need to pay around $200-300 for a shop to install them as well). Again, I'm looking stock factory replacement or at least one that will give the same ride height. Any other suggestions and advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

  5. Name: Chevrolet Impala SS Convertible (1965) Date Added: 02 June 2011 - 4:30 PM Owner: Mjdecker Short Description: Figured it was time to finally get a car that would be a fun project to learn off of and take out for a cruise on a nice sunny day and also something that's not too commonly seen. 283 with Powerglide.
  6. Basically the idea behind it... mechanically, I know very little on cars being the car nut I am... so I've been wanting a project car to learn off of yet something that's a bit unique and not seen too often on the road.
  7. Current owner wants $6500 for it and currently isn't advertizing it.. if he did says he'll list it at $7k ... as for the start ups, not sure if it's exactly two per year while it's been in storage (there may have been more or less) just that's what he told me.
  8. Hey guys been a long time since I've posted on the forums so I'd figured I'd give a good return asking for some advice on a piece of Chevrolet history. I have the opportunity to buy a 1965 Chevy Impala SS 283 Convertible. Current owner is the 2nd owner and has owned it since the early 1980s. The car has been sitting in his garage for the past 8 years with start ups twice a year. Frame is solid, body needs some work (some rust spots along bottom, pics attached) and the engine runs smooth. The top has a hole and need replacing. Current owner had a true dual exhaust put on (not sure what brand) about 20 years ago from a local exhaust shop. Anything I should look for that will tell me to stay away from it? Any feedback is greatly appreciated!
  9. Sadly, I don't own an Oldsmobile now.. however these cars were at one point my daily driver My last car I sold back in June 1999 Olds Alero GL coupe. What's pure torture, is that the buyer is some kid that lives 2 blocks from me so I still see it a lot. This was my first car. I had won from a raffle at my Senior post prom party... yup I got the car for free (it was bone stock then), and what's more funny... I didn't even go to my senior prom 1997 Olds Achieva SC Unfortunately, this car had a sad end where it was totaled (in front of my house while it was parked!) and I got the Alero as a replacement.
  10. Front end in some ways remind me of these...
  11. One of my favorites is the the Pronto Spyder And browsing on Google I came across this... 1988/89 (listed both on some sites, idk what year it's really from) Dodge Intrepid concept... seems Dodge was very 'Stealthy' on that one...
  12. Thanks for the feed back... was NEVER on my shopping list, granted the Corolla is cheap, it doesn't appeal to me and my buddy that went along with me despises them just as much. I really like the split dash kinda unique but seems futuristic in some way... Yeah I had the foglights put on, nah they weren't cheap but the plastic covers were really bothering me Yeah I did consider a Mazda 3 but I really wanted a coupe and once i drove the Civic my heart was set.
  13. 2008 Honda Civic LX 2 door, 5spd Well, as of lately my Alero has been having a lot of problems that have been driving me nuts.. (wheel bearing, weird electrical issues, rust developments, ect) and I just got a nice promotion in my new job so I felt it was time to go on my first NEW car purchase. I went out Thursday with a friend to a few dealerships, I had my mind set on an Astra but cheapest one there was priced at 19k and while out in the lot for like 45 min looking at cars not ONE salesman came out and asked if we needed help.. (kinda love it.. when I have the intention to buy you're left alone, but when you go there to just check cars you're swamped every 5 min). So then we went next door to the Pontiac/Cadillac/GMC dealer ship and was able to take a G5 out on a test drive. My first impressions was.. I was cramped and I'm 5'8", engine felt really gutless, and the car just didn't call out to me. Then we went to a near by Nissan dealership where I wanted to check out the new Altima but I couldn't justify the 26k price tag.. and the Sentra does nothing for me so then we went off to the Honda dealership. I gotta admit I like the new looks of the Accord but they were priced around the same lines as the Altima was (why are most coupes priced higher than the sedans?). So I asked if they had any civics I could take out for a test drive so I took one out and imminently if felt better than the G5, more power, felt more roomy and everything else felt comfortable. Well, hate or love the car.. I love it..

  15. Wow... I'm seeing a lot of Murcielago & Countach in this.. definitely not a bad mix.
  16. I guess it's for those that can't decide if they want the panel or non-panel version
  17. Am I getting my hopes up too high to expect this sometime?
  18. Ford did a reproduction of the 1965 Shelby Cobra for a while back in 2000
  19. I would actually consider one depending on price.. then I can justify getting a project car that will be pushing out 1000+ hp and 8mpg
  20. It's Saturn's new full size luxury sedan or mid engine sport car with a twin turbo v12. Cadillac isn't getting a variant of either.
  21. Not too bad of a car you got there. My dad had a 94 (bought in 96 with 30k miles on it) and it lasted to just under 280k miles. It was the car I learned driving off of as well as my bro. My parents liked the park ave of that generation so much they bought a 2nd (92) and my mom drove it for a while and now its been passed to my brother.
  22. Got my tickets, going to see it tonight
