Two Dodge Challengers Dragging It Up At Lapeer, MI Dragway?

We just got the following unconfirmed tip:

"There's a rumor going 'round work here that two new Challengers were up at Lapeer (MI) dragway this week.

I can't confirm that part (but am trying) but I do know one of the lead engineers (chief?) lives in Metamora, the next town south.

BTW, and unconfirmed also, but they reportedly were turning 12s."

Anyone know anything else 'bout it -- like for instance, is it true? (Hat tip to Sean!)

Sounds about right, as current SRT-8's are getting low 13's and high 12's.

Production Challengers should easily run 12s. There are LOTS of dead stock 12.90+ four door LXs already out there depending on the track altitude, humidity etc.

The cars you refer to are not regular production Challengers if they are the car in that picture- those are specialty cars, they have solid rear axles (not production) and at least one of them was at the SEMA show painted red white and blue.

The production Challengers should be easily capable of mid to high 12 second times.

Ummmmm......look right below the picture that is posted.

The car in the picture is a drag racing car, which is why I wrote what I did under the picture in the first post. That picture was used in the Jalopnik.com article that I linked. I actually took a picture of the drag racing car that is pictured in the first post, when I was at the Woodward Dream Cruise:
