The BMW V5 and X6

Every site and magazine seems to have a different take on what the V5 and X6 are supposed to be. The overall consensus seems to be that the V5 is some sort of crossover wagon like the Volvo XC70 and Audi allroad that would slot between the 5-series wagon and X5. The X6 has been depicted as everything from a BMW version of the MB CLS to a BMW version of the Infiniti FX. Somes sources reverse the two names and suggest the X6 is the MPV and the V5 is the crossover sport wagon. Does anyone have any insight here?

Ugh, BMW should not follow Mercedes' misguided plan to add a million niche cars.

Yeah, what BMW was great at was making one car that appealed to a wide audience. The current X5 drives as well as any FX, but isn't useless in grass, mud, or snow like the Infiniti is.

Exactly, I see no need to muddy the X5s image with the introduction of a "sporty" SUV. The X5 is perfect as is. Sporty looks and drive, elegance and classy design as well, and great fun. It's damn good looking and should just be redesigned with fresher cues, but not like the horrid X3.

Why not? They've already followed Mercedes' misguided plan to weigh every car down with superfluous electronics.
