The Quietest Muffler

Featured Replies

Since I have to replace the entire exhaust from the Y-pipe back, I'm starting my research on mufflers now.

I really dislike the Flowmaster that is on there now. It's fun for about 30 seconds and then it gets annoying with all the droning going on, particularly at highway speeds.

Any breathing problems the 307 has are clear the other end of the car, so I'm not particularly concerned with a high flow unit.

What I need is a 2 1/4" inlet and dual 2 1/4" outlet in the quietest muffler I can find. I do plan to go back to the resonators the car originally shipped with, but two of them this time. (I like the look of the dual exhaust.

I'd look for a custom muffler shop if I were you.

You can get good flow and quiet together in a "turbo" style muffler.

As far as droning goes you could install sound deadening material, I'm sure a product of the 80's has about as much of that as a motorcycle.

I'n fact, if you want to make it really quiet, there's a lovely tutorial over at LHF how to do it. http://www.lhforums.net/forums/showthread.php?t=966

As far as quieter mufflers go, Dynomax makes the quietest ones that I know of.

That's going a bit too far.

But this is what is one there now. Video from last year.

You don't have to go so far. Friend of mine bought a Corsa exhaust for his 3.6 Camaro, loved the sound but not the drone, so he bought some Damplifier and added it to the trunk under the carpet. It's much quieter now.

You could go a litter further than that and add it under your floor carpet too and I bet the whole car would be much quiter.

What Dudley did probably made his car into a vault.
