Outlook Horsepower/Torque Question

Featured Replies

I don't know if this caught anyone else's eye:

Horsepower (hp / kw):

XE: 265 / 198 @ 6600 rpm w/ single exhaust (est.)

XR: 267 / 199 @ 6600 rpm w/ dual exhaust (est.)

Torque (lb-ft / Nm):

XE: 244 / 331 @ 3200 rpm w/ single exhaust (est.)

XR: 247 / 335 @ 3200 rpm w/ dual exhaust (est.)

---

Why is there such a miniscule difference in power between the XE and XR trims? Why bother making the power output different at all if it's going to be that insignificant?

Maybe they're lying about it to catch the competition off guard? It's been done in the past...

The XR model has a less restrictive, dual-exhaust system. I don't think engine tuning is any different.

probably at this point... like the post above says, perhaps they will suprise the competition...

I think it's kinda silly.....

That small of a difference.....all it does is make it confusing.

If they had a bigger difference, say like the Ford Crown Vic 4.6L when equipped with duals.....then I can see giving the two different ratings.

However with a difference this small, I say just stay with the smaller of the two ratings for both models and tout the dual exhaust in your literature.....

With that small of a difference...they're likely LYING.

Nah, I think it's the new, more anal SAE guidelines. The GM of old, which had horsepower that always ended with a multiple of 5, would have given 270 horsepower for all.

This is GM remember, they would have said 265 hp for both. These are still preliminary though, and could change once they get certified numbers. Note that Ford is following GM's lead and getting new engines certified, with more power from the new 3.5 L AJ-V6.

The slight difference in power between the single and dual-exhaust setups shows that the dual-system is mostly cosmetic, as most systems are, especially with transverse engine applications.

Maybe the XR will have 279 hp like the Enclave Concept and they are just trying to surprise the competition.
