Chrysler News: Rumorpile: SRT Barracuda, And Two Models Under Consideration

Chrysler’s SRT group has been on a bit of roll as late. Their lineup, which includes the Chrysler 300 SRT8, Dodge Challenger SRT8, Dodge Charger SRT8, and Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 has been praised widely. But, all of those models mentioned come from other divisions in Chrysler. That appears to be changing with the new SRT Viper due out later this year, and SRT is hungry for more models of their own.

Motor Trend reports that SRT could be getting two more models in the coming years. The first model is one that we have been hearing about for awhile; the Barracuda. The replacement to the current Dodge Challenger, the Barracuda will use a smaller version of the full-size LY platform (Chrysler 300/Dodge Charger) codenamed LA. The Barracuda is due out sometime in 2015.

The second model could be one of two possibilities. Possibility one is a successor to the Dodge Ram SRT10. Whether it follows the same ideals as the past Ram SRT10 or goes down the Ford F-150 Raptor route, we’re not sure of. Possibility two is a small, two-seat sports car that could compete with the Mazda Miata.

Barracuda sounds fantastic, bring it on!

Small 2-seat roadster sounds awesome as well. Didn't we see a small Dodge roadster concept car a few years ago?

Ram SRT... hmmm, what should it be on the next go-round... :scratchchin:

What really has my interest is the rumored "LA" platform. A smaller version of LY that could possibly spawn other variants below the LY cars.

My vote is for the Raptor Competitor. Seems to make more sense to steal some of Ford's market share, and we've seen creations recently that show it can be done. GM could jump in with their own variant then too.

I hope,it's a about the size of the Genesis Coupe with a little more rear seat and head room for 2 adults

Also I agree that Dodge and GM need to go the Raptor route as there is plenty of market left as not everyone will want a Ford.

      The Cadillac XT4 is an important model for the brand as it will give them a competitor in the lucrative compact luxury crossover class. It might also give one of GM's assembly plants some much needed good news.
      Bloomberg has learned from sources that General Motors has started producing test versions of the Cadillac XT4 at their Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas City. This possibly hints that production of the XT4 could take place here. A GM spokesman declined to comment when asked about this.
      The Fairfax plant has been hit hard by the decline in sales for midsize sedans. Home to the Chevrolet Malibu, the plant has seen the third shift cut last year as Malibu sales dropped 18 percent.

      A new report from Automotive News says that Ford is planning to end North American production of the Fusion sedan at the end of this decade. According to sources, the automaker has begun to notify suppliers that it will not produce the next-generation Fusion at their Hermosillo, Mexico plant. Suppliers have also been told that Ford will stop producing the Mondeo (Fusion in other markets) at their Valencia, Spain plant.
      This is further complicated by a report from Reuters saying the company is consolidating production to a plant in China. Ford has since denied this report.
      “We have no plans to export the next-generation Fusion/Mondeo from China to North America and Europe. Fusion/Mondeo are an important part of the Ford car lineup. We will have more information to share about the next Fusion/Mondeo at a later date,” the company said in a statement.
      A spokesman declined to comment when asked if Ford would stop selling Fusion in the U.S., replace it with another vehicle, or build it elsewhere.
      Previously, Ford executives have said that the shift from cars to crossovers/SUVs will be permanent. Back in October, the company announced that it would be cutting back on the number of car nameplate it offers, but wouldn't go into details. Ford has already ended production of the C-Max Energi and plans on ending the C-Max Hybrid sometime next year. The Fiesta and Taurus are reportedly on the chopping block as well.
      What does the future hold for the Fusion? At the moment, it is tough to say.

      According to a new report from Automobile, the Audi R8 supercar will not have a third-generation model. The report says the R8 is a slow seller and Audi has decided it wouldn't be worth the money to develop a new one. The model will depart in 2020 when the replacement for the Lamborghini Huracán arrives - the R8 shares the same platform and engine.
      Audi has pulled the plug on a successor to the R8 e-tron and a supercar project known as Scorpion. The latter project would have used a V8 that would be made up of four 1.2L Ducati motorcycle engines.
      At least other performance projects seem to be on track. The upcoming RS4 and RS5 will use a new 2.9L twin-turbo V6 producing 450 horsepower. This engine is almost nearing its power ceiling as Automobile says the maximum power it can achieve is 470. There is the possibility of a plug-in hybrid powertrain using this engine along with an 85 kW electric motor to produce even more power - although, there are no scheduled plans to add this to either model.
      The next-generation RS6 and RS7 will retain the 4.0L twin-turbo V8 found in the current models.
      On top of Audi's RS offerings will be the RS Q8 due in 2020. Basically a coupe-styled version of the Q7, the RS version will use the same 4.0L twin-turbo V8 found in the upcoming Lamborghini Urus that produces 641 horsepower.
