VW News: Scratch The 2013 Launch Date For The Next Golf

The seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf that was originally due out in the U.S. next fall has been pushed back to 2014.

Rainer Michel, Volkswagen of America’s vice president of product marketing and strategy told Car & Driver about the delay. The reason is due to Volkswagen wanting to avoid unnecessary manufacturing complications at launch since the Golf is the key vehicle in Europe.

Volkswagen officials are saying that North America market planning is ongoing.That includes where the Golf and GTI will be assembled. Currently, the Golf and GTI are built at the Wolfsburg plant. Speculation also has some production moving to Mexico.

This is more a money saving move as the over all outlook in Europe for auto sales and the rest of the world is not bright. Delaying with a slower roll out saves them money and allows them to look at ways to use the global slow down to reduce excess capacity of manufacturing. There is more to this than what is being stated.

Golf is not a big cog in the NA market for VW.....especially now. The update is not visually different anyways. No reason for VW to really act promptly...

I'm pretty sure that besides the GTI, and maybe the TDI, Golfs have already been coming from Mexico.

TDI and GTI are the only two golfs worth owning IMHO, and the TDI's have had issues with intercooler icing on the turbo's and High Pressure fuel pump failure on the Bosh fuel pumps....
