Mitsubishi Motors Reports another Strong Month of Sales in May

  • Outlander Sport leads the way; Outlander sales more than double

CYPRESS, Calif., June 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) reported another outstanding sales month with May sales of 7,269 units, a 54.2 percent increase over the sales total from May 2013. It was the best May sales total for Mitsubishi Motors in the last three years and also the second-best May sales for MMNA since 2008.

The US-built Outlander Sport 5-passenger compact crossover/SUV led the way with its second-best-ever monthly sales total of 2,820 units, up 24.4 percent compared to May 2013 sales.

The extremely fuel-efficient all-new Mitsubishi Mirage 5-door sub-compact had 1,700 units sold, the best all-time monthly sales total for that model since it was introduced in September 2013.

"April was a big month for us and now we backed it up with another outstanding month in May," said MMNA Executive Vice President, Don Swearingen. "We are enthused that new-car shoppers are taking notice of our brand and we are not going to let up in June."

Other highlights of May sales include:

  • Total Mitsubishi sales are up 33.7 percent year-to-date.
  • Outlander sales were up 140 percent for the month and are up 51.2 percent year-to-date. This was the best May sales for Outlander in six years.
  • Outlander Sport sales were up 24.4 percent for the month and are up 31.3 percent year-to-date.
  • Lancer Evolution sales were up 7.4 percent for the month and are up 14.8 percent year-to-date.
