Omega Speedmaster, an absolute icon in the watch world. One day, I'll get myself one.1 point

This is probably more of a definition than a joke. "Youngstown tune-up" I have both heard this from someone who lives there and have read about it ... when the mob was more active decades ago in a bustling industrial Youngstown (OH) that hadn't yet gone into an economic slumber, this was the term used when someone got rubbed out by the mob there. Mildly humorous ... in a twisted sort of way.1 point

@David If you have any predispositions about women, that would be on you. Bulgari has sold the snake jewelery motif for 50,60, 70 years now. That first lovely lady in the black and white picture is Liz Taylor. She was THE actress back in the day before you and I were born and a sex symbol for the ages. She wore a snake watch. Its in the picture and Bulgari wanted to point that out with pride. I had known about the Bulgari Serpenti line and I realized that all the watches that were posted in this thread were all male oriented. So I decided to be inclusive and post something a lady would appreciate. And those of us who are of the male species could surely do the same and adore the beauty and elegance of these time pieces and the diamonds, emeralds, stones and gems. Who wouldnt want their better half to be adorned with such elegance and luxury to compliment their beauty? Over at the beautiful car thread, I continued to be inspired by this and I wanted to post watches, music, and cars with a theme of a femme fatale. Then I toned it down with the femme fatale thing and I just wanted to do expensive but elegant trinkets and cars with the assumption that a woman might enjoy those things that I posted. MY idea of what an elegant lovely lady would want to wear and drive.1 point

You beat me to it. LOL. I usually notice these on the homepage. I was not on "terra firma" during this event. The Arch is very cool. First, no two views of it to the visitor are likely to be the same. Second, it gives a lot of credence to the notion that "less is more." Happy belated to @ccap411 point

I'd like to rent an EV eventually and test it out, but would have to scope out beforehand to find the charging locations. Quite different from traveling to an unfamiliar area and picking up a normal rental car, never give a thought as to where the gas stations are since they are everywhere and easy to find..1 point

Just as fire departments have learned how to use gasoline foam to put out an auto fire, I have read that the fire departments are working with suppliers to understand the updated foam needs to deal with EVs. My take is that like anything, we learn how best to deal with the new type of fires. Just like in the early 1900's when an auto did catch on fire, water did not always put it out and as such investment into new processes had to be done to find a better way to deal with a gas fire. I believe the same is here with batteries, new ways will be figured out. Course like Mercedes, even GM is working to ensure that the battery cells have minimal ability to ignite. Solid-state batteries will remove this fire issue all together I believe.1 point

It is different but CVTs have been around for a long time now and that no-shift-feeling is what people like about them. There's just no engine noise to accompany the acceleration. And, I know there are differences and people should test out EVERY vehicle before purchasing. But that isn't unique to EVs. Test drive for awhile at a dealership. I'm not saying to not have EVs in rental fleets. I just don't think it is ideal for the majority of people who don't give a crap about their transportation.1 point

With EVs, there are often weird door handles and overdone touch screen controls. A lot of tech that doesn’t improve the experience. I couldn’t imagine buying or leasing something without driving it and getting familiar with it first…and the driving experience *is* different, with a one speed trans/ linear power delivery and regenerative braking.1 point

Rental would be a good way to see how they drive, and how the interior fits and controls work, though...I don't care how they charge overnight.1 point

This discussion has been had before but I agree with @trinacriabob's interaction, I don't think rentals is a great way to get EVs into peoples' hands. The biggest advantage of an EV is charging overnight, at home, for very few dollars. Renting them negates all of that. Having to deal with public chargers isn't a great way to have a great experience.1 point

It's not pretty but I can appreciate an analog clock in a vehicle.1 point

I just wanted to let you know that @Anthony Fongaro has joined the team and will be starting to contribute news to the site starting this week. Anthony and I have known each other for a number of years, and like me, he is a member of several automotive media press guilds such as Midwest Automotive Media Association (MAMA), Automotive Press Association (APA), and International Motor Press Association (IMPA). Anthony hails from the Greater Chicagoland area and also writes for The Gentleman Racer and his own social media Anthony on Autos. If you recognize him, it is because he has written a few articles for us back in late 2019. I've posted some of his prior articles below. Please welcome Anthony and be nice.1 point

Always liked Tag Heuers, back when I wore watches looked at them closely...the problem with many higher end watches is tend to be large and not look good on my skinny wrists... (I've been told I have a Mr Potato Head physique..). Back in the 00s had a coworker who I think had a watch addiction..he was buying new watches constantly, from a variety of brands..I think he had about 200 watches in 2005.. I've always liked silver watches with blue backgrounds, like this Tag Formula 1 (plus being an F1 fan makes this appealing). I have a Skagen that is nice and thin and the same color scheme. I like this new Timex Pam Am tribute...love the classic Pan Am logo and the plane motif...1 point

I don't have much knowledge of watches and don't really care about pedigree. I'll never buy a watch just because of the name brand. I tend to like them in two styles. I like either a classic, minimalist, Deco style, or as a skeleton style. I always prefer an automatic and don't really shop outside of that category ever. One thing I've never liked is metal watch bands. I find they snag on my arm hair or just about anything else that's around. My favorite watch I've had for about 6-8 years now is a Sturhling Bridge Automatic. They still produce the bridge model, but no longer as an automatic. I'll get a picture of it when I'm home. This Stauer Dashtronic is one I've admired for a while and not sure why I haven't pulled the trigger on it yet.1 point
