  1. Well, it looks like little has changed at GM: release a non-4-door-sedan variant, but half-ass it due to failing to understand the basics of that market and/or obvious cost-cutting, then throw their hands up in the air and claim there is no market for said variant, despite the fact that many other marques churn them out generation after generation. CTS Wagon: GM lost out on this one by failing to understand the fundamentals of wagons: cargo capacity. The slope of the roof and the notched liftgate led to a small opening, which made it a pain in the ass for hauling stuff. Any wagon buyer will notice this in two seconds and then either go to a different showroom, or start looking at the SRX. CTS Coupe: Way overpriced. $h! interior, especially compared to sedan and wagon. Beautiful, striking car, but that interior wouldn't pass my muster in a 30k car, let alone 60k. Again, GM, you might want to occasionally go to a competitor's showroom and see what they offer at a particular price point. Bankruptcy is an excuse; where's the interior refresh post-BK? Oh wait, let's instead throw our hands in the air and declare "NO MARKET!" despite what's going on over at the Infiniti (!!), Mercedes-Benz and BMW showrooms, generation after generation.
  2. Honestly? My gut says Cruze because of the fuel economy advantages. But the Verano is very, very nice inside. I just get stuck when the Verano is the size it is and only achieves the same fuel economy as my 2001 3.5 Aurora. I mean hello, smaller cars should have better mileage, amirite?
  3. I think so--I see this in Holden dealerships more than Buick or Chevy.
  4. This is very nice. Has the upscale exterior styling VW is known for. Hopefully the US will get something similar enough...nahhhh who am I kidding?
  5. Anita Lienert has reported that California will actually be one of the initial 13 markets the Cruze Diesel will be marketed in. That's good.
  6. Other diesels are clean enough for California...what I want to know is if this diesel is one of them.
  7. GM "bet big" on mild hybrids that also flopped with past Malibus and the Saturn "Green Line" vehicles. The reason Malibu mild hybrid sucks and LaCrosse doesn't (as much) is because the Verano doesn't come close to the mpg of the Cruze. LaCrosse does not have a barely-smaller, cheaper car embarrassing its mpg and trunk volume sitting next to it in the showroom.
  8. I'm concerned with the lack of a specific mention regarding Californian availability.
  9. Until the head unit includes a CD slot, I don't give a $h! if Cadillac attempts to make their virtual controls slightly less user-unfriendly.
  10. Wait, what next-gen XTS? I thought this was a one-gen stop-gap until Cadillac got that real flagship that's been a pipedream for so long...please tell me they aren't STILL trying to keep a Deville around longer?? The last of those buyers are about to hit 70!!
  11. Too many lights with too many candela. ... ........ No seriously, sounds like a great idea.
  12. smk, you actually make a pretty good point with that. Good on you.
  13. ...and a CD player. Proper CPU and CD player, check.
  14. Ah, I love certain functions being locked-out. Because we all know the driver NEVER has a passenger to assist with certain things. By the way, how'd you like the CD player in your ATS?
  15. Exactly. I was really stoked to see such a large, hidden storage area there...and figured what was in the glovebox was a 6-disc changer. Imagine my chagrin when the screen didn't flip open to reveal a CD slot...
  16. I answered this before, but here it is again: a large empty storage space containing a single USB plug in the rear. Found a pic: Source: http://www.carrentingreviews.com/2012/10/24/2013-cadillac-ats-2-5l-luxury-trim/#
  17. Really? You wouldn't mind it taking up all of that space in an already-small glove box? If you don't want it, great, don't tick that option box.
  18. It's not a 6-disc CD changer, just a single-disc in the glovebox. Let me be perfectly clear here: The CUE control panel has a front panel that lifts up to reveal a hidden storage area. This hidden storage area is slightly larger than the size of the CD drive in the glovebox, and contains a single USB plug in the back. At the auto show, I found one more car that did not have an in-dash CD player--the Dodge Dart. The Dart, however, had the CD drive vertically-mounted in the center console storage area. My gripe isn't that GM is doing away with a CD player to "save weight" (read: cheap out) because I would simply tick the option box to add it back in; my issue is that its location is not only NOT in the obvious place for a CD drive, it is in the GLOVEBOX (which I usually keep locked in my car, anyway), not ready accessible to the driver, and LOCATED IN THE OUTBOARD POSITION inside said glovebox. Now, I don't know about you, but having a LUXURY CAR that does not cater to the driver's every whim seems half-assed-backwards, especially when it comes to a CD player that a driver cannot safely use while driving without the help of a passenger. $h! outta luck if you drive solo. Make me pay for it, I don't care, but don't make it an ergonomic nightmare for me to (not be able to) use. Also, the too-cool-for-CDs crowd is not going to have the disposable income for a luxury car. No, older people buy those. My father, who actually uses an iPod plugged into his car while driving (mine generally collects dust because I can't stand the poor audio quality), has stated that if the XTS has the same setup, it will be a deal-breaker for him, too. Princess Aurora is looking pretty good to me these days--I only wish she were a little more fuel-efficient, and I wish she had bluetooth...but frankly that's about it. Even if I were to have purchased a new car, I was still planning on keeping and storing her as a back-up. My Aurora is still pretty close to perfect, and even after looking at the flashy new Cadillac that I'd been lusting after for a year, I'm back in love with what I still think is the best overall package GM designed and engineered in the past 15 years. Now I just need to get her some new wipers and a box of roses...
  19. I checked out an ATS yesterday at LAIAS. This is a car that, up until yesterday, I was pretty confident would be my next vehicle, purchased within the next year or so. Until I found out that the only CD slot is located inside the glovebox, and alllllll the way on the outboard side. I don't know about you, but I still use CDs. To have a CD slot located so far away from the driver is inexcusable, especially with the giant "hidden storage" space behind the center stack controls. The glovebox-mounted player also makes an already small glovebox pretty useless. I also found the interior packaging, overall, to be less than optimal. Lots of wasted space, IMO. Biggest offender of this is the trunk--Cadillac clearly didn't want intrusive trunk hinges, but instead of using hydraulics, they simply made the trunk much narrower so the goosenecks wouldn't intrude on cargo. But the trunk can now only fit one large suitcase and a little extra. Truly one of the biggest letdowns--I was so sold on this car, and while a lot of the interior detailing is very, very impressive...it just isn't practical on too many levels. Big on style, short on substance. The CD slot location is truly a dealbreaker. I think I'll stick with my 2001 Aurora for a few more years; maybe something will catch my eye then, and not just make me super-disappointed and instead fall in love with my current car all over again.
  20. Yeah, don't try to confuse me with reality. Source Source SourceAlso, Cimarron debuted as a MY 1982, not a 1981, Balthazar.
  21. Cadillac sales went through the roof after the introduction of the Cimarron, too. Short-term gains and sales goals at the expense of long-term brand equity. Check through my posts; I called it for VW way back then.
  22. First, driving is NOT a privilege, but it is supposed to be a right. You have the right to travel. It is your lovely government that fooled everyone years ago by trading in your horse for a car with a bunch of limits, then legislated the horse into impracticality. Second, in the end, the government is going to dupe you into using self driving cars by making manual driving such a hassle that its not enjoyable or worthwhile. Writing laws so you always have to yield to the self-drivers. Programming traffic lights to turn green for self-drivers, etc. It once was a government run by the people, now its a government that controls the people, generally by slow deception. For example, the laws in the failed SOPA are going to get passed. If not as SOPA, than as PIPA or CISPA (which is currently succeeding) or they will be installed piece by piece as riders on budgets and other boring, everyday legislation. WRONG, Driving is a Privilage you EARN, No where in our laws does it say driving is a Right. This is just like Cell phones or the internet. Tax payers being taxed heavily have ended up subsidising the Internet for everyone at the schools and Libraries and then we end up with people saying it is a right, same with cell phones. People seem to think this is a right for everyone to have. Nothing here is a right, but a privilage you earn by working hard to afford the ability to drive. Sorry, but I have the Right to make more money than you and earn the privilage to drive nice expensive cars. Seriously, it's like Driver's Ed 101--"Driving is a privilege, not a right." First sentence in EVERY Driver's Ed class.
  23. Do you see anything on Cadillac's webpage confirming what model year the ELR will be introduced in? That's why this is news. OK, got it. Again, wasn't trying to be snarky...I'd just had an "Oh, so they greenlit it" moment a few days ago, and then saw this here. I figured if it was on the Cadillac site, it wasn't breaking. MY2014? Cool. That's right around the corner...
