  1. What is this, 1958?
  2. Yeah, I don't get that. Is Mexico cracking down on immigration now or something?
  3. Exactly--and frankly I think it says quite a bit that Cadillac has really only had two white elephants in its past--Cimarron and Catera (lesser extent the present STS). The brand has done well, and still has a positive reputation. Cadillac is my favorite brand, after all, though I do love Oldsmobile and Buick, too.
  4. I was just making a styling observation, not really deriding it. I like the Acadia, and I like that GMC seems to be finally getting a cohesive styling vocabulary. Envoy, Yukon, Acadia, Sierra--all are pretty different. If the Acadia is used as the baseline, I think that allows for both strong and attractive styling across the lineup.
  5. I think all the True Believers™ getting their panties in a bunch because some of us dare to talk about the Cimarron 20 years after its demise is hilarious.
  6. It's a baby Acadia!
  7. Every so often, people in a city get really angry and vocal about it. See Watts Riots, recent tensions in Cleveland, OH, and other instances. Usually the best thing to do is what you do when confronted with an angry person IRL: let him/her calm down and do not engage until he/she has done so. I mean, they're not rioting, right? As long as they are not negatively impacting you an any way, just let them be. And feeling uncomfortable doesn't really count as a negative impact.
  8. OMG GLaDYS!
  9. Agreed. Over the age of 8? Shouldn't wear them. Gotta disagree with you here, man. Uggs are kinda hot. Though stay away from Malibu, because they're weird out there and the MEN wear Uggs as often as the women do. It's also quieter and freaks out more vision-impaired people.
  10. SO f@#kING TRUE!!!
  11. Funny, everyone I knew with one of those back in the 90s couldn't wait to get rid of them at the end. Just fell apart completely after a few years. I've always liked the dustbuster design, but those things just had problem after problem...
  12. Update: as per comments at Autoblog, this is by the Duke U. campus in NC, and as can be seen on Google StreetView, the overpass has ample warning signs for several blocks in advance, as well as pole-mounted yellow flashers flanking a sign that reads "VEHICLES OVERHEIGHT WHEN FLASHING" assumedly triggered by radar. Stupid drivers.
  13. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that those semis weren't driving on a truck route. They also did not appear to be "local deliveries" since there were several in short time frames (unedited clips showing multiples). Never ignore "No Trucks" signs that I am SURE appear prior to the bridge. Doesn't say where this is, but my guess is that the groundwater table is too high to safely lower the road without 24/7 pump operations, and raising the bridge (and therefore the track leading up to it) is just not feasible. It isn't like this is the only road in and out of the town, so the trucks should stick to the designated routes. Hopefully the municipality makes the trucking companies pay for repairs
  14. Broomball. The body ache lasts for several days, and you get decent cardio and hip/core workouts from trying (and often failing) to maintain balance. Oh, and it's fun. Just be active up and down the rink, and not be a lame pussy chilling on "defense" by the goal the whole time.
  15. "Semi-Charmed Life" or "Rock Star Land"
  16. Hey NOS, if you want answers to your questions, go to a Fiero Owners Club online forum. They will have EVERYTHING you need and more. I don't think anyone on this site has a Fiero.

    Breakthrough!

Fleetwood Brougham got Cadillac on the radar of the rap artists. It was a game MAKER.
  18. Nothing says "1980s" like a plastic, mid-engined Pontiac Fiero. EXCITEMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

QUOTE (trinacriabob @ Mar 10 2009, 01:55 PM) Who's Carla? (I can't hold a candle to you for pop culture) I hear this phrase at work to describe people who are (in reality) disliked. But wait, PCS is ok. Unique, that's for sure. You should watch Top Chef. That was Carla's catchphrase from the NY season that just ended.
  20. Oh, the taillights were "inspired" but the overall car shares very little visually in overall style with the Toronado IMO. I don't doubt the designer was "inspired." But to have the styling inspired by something is totally different from being the spiritual successor of, or the "replacement" of something. That's like the original CTS being "inspired" by the 1959 Eldorado, and yes that's a quote you can find out there on the internet from its initial launch. But does the 2003 CTS look a thing like the 1959 Eldorado? No, not really. Vertical taillamps that hint at fins, but look at almost any Cadillac from the 1960s onward.
  21. This one I disagree with. The 88 and 98 were essentially the same car, with near-identical styling. They were less visually-differentiated than cousins LeSabre and Park Avenue. The 88 was killed at the same time the 2nd gen Aurora was released, and with the availability of the 3.5, there was no reason the one car couldn't replace both. In fact, the 2nd-gen Aurora was developed as "Antares" to replace the 88, with the original Aurora continuing to share with the Riviera, but when the Riviera was cancelled in 1999, Antares became Aurora to cash in on the positive response of the Aurora.
  22. Well, when you go to Walmart and get the appliance for $20 when other brands at other stores offer comparable items for $80, you pretty much know you're buying crap, especially when it feels flimsy to use. G6 is a price-leader, especially compared to Camry and Accord. Its interior is cheap and flimsy-feeling. Yes, that's perceived quality...but guess what? The G6 has proven to be an unreliable car. The new Malibu feels a lot more quality, and again while that is perceived quality, its overall reliability has proven to be superior to that of the previous generation, despite anecdotal evidence by Walt.
  23. I can say that the actual poor quality of MB had everything to do with the car and not my expectations of it. Plastic interior parts falling off after a mild bump in the road, grab handle coming off in hand when it was just unfolded--no downward pressure applied whatsoever, ~75% of the spark plugs having to be completely replaced every 9 months, poor exterior build quality--I could fit my finger through the gap between the rear bumper and the sheetmetal, radio that failed intermitantly, radio where the volume would randomly go to full blast and couldn't be turned down until turned off and then back on, body creaks and rattles, etc. The thing was a POS, and it is the only vehicle I have ever had or been familiar with that has had anywhere near the number of problems it did. And they were all $$$ because it has the Tristar on the hood.
