This is pretty ridiculous. I have no problem with their trying to plow snow and make roads dribeable in an environmentally-friendly way, but Seattle needs to perfect this magic bullet and then use it before just deciding to stop plowing roads. Irresponsible.

Anything below a 3 is nearly unnoticeable, 68. A few weeks ago I was pulling an all-nighter getting a paper done when I just felt like I was cresting a hill on a little country road. 2.4 only about 2-3 miles away. No shaking, just a slight wave motion. Really, I'm much more worried about a 3+ quake occurring outside of CA because most places have not built for those kinds of things. But the Appalachians didn't just appesr randomly, and the Atlantic ocean is getting wider each year (Pacific is shrinking).

GM really just needs to start building cars the market wants, instead of building cars it wants and then throwing up its hands in bewilderment when the market doesn't bite. GM: there are segments. Build cars. In the segments. Stop getting cute with the compact width/midsized length (Theta) or the midsized width/fullsized length (W).

This is what I'd subscribe to, and I'd only add beautiful coastlines, Hollywood, and freeways. FHWA design standards were almost entirely taken by Caltrans standards developed well before any federal standards existed, from striping, signage, interchange designs, etc. CA is also the car culture capital of the world. Drive-thru, fast food, street racing (still very common, although illegal)...all born here. And nowhere else do you see as many wonderfully-preserved classics on the streets everyday.

Sand clogged the sewers so Indianapolis switched to salt years ago. I think they use a de-icer now, too. There's only so much you can do, though. Obviously LA uses nothing.

Griffon is right. GM did this with the TrailBlazer and other GMT-360s, too. Compared to the Explorer, those were MUCH narrower and had even less usable space due to wheel well intrusion, and curved interior walls/surfaces that resulted in a cargo opening that was markedly smaller in "diameter" than the rest of the cargo hold. Retarded.

Exactly, except I don't know if we even deserve that dubious distinction--I mean Waco? The FLDS compound? The school district in the middle of nowhere that decided to give handguns to all their teachers in case they "needed" them...I think there are a lot of, um, outside-the-mainstream people in Texas. And don't get me started as Utah, the state that became populated as a safe haven for polygymists. Frankly, I think strict fundamentalists are "crazy" in the sense that their world outlook is almost the polar opposite of mine--yet that would indict pretty much the entire country, save the coasts. Did I say anything about jokes? No. I clearly indicated my issue is with the rants. That said, many of those "jokes" can still be very offensive. By the way, what California jokes are out there? The only one I know is the "cereal state--fruits, nuts and flakes." I'm really not familiar with any others.
