  1. Well the Lexus, BMW, and Mercedes all outsell the A8 and XJ I believe, and they also have more prestige. I think it would be a mistake for Cadillac to take the Audi approach for their flagship, yet the ATS and CTS are taking the BMW/Mercedes/Lexus(with exception to the ES, which is going away anyway) approach. Also, it works for Audi, because from their A3 to their A8 they take a similar approach. They don't have any RWD only cars.
  2. The A8 isn't at the top of the class though. Mercedes, BMW, and Lexus are. It all depends what Cadillac is aiming for.
  3. First, let me say that I don't like Toyotas, and I do like a lot of VWs, and I would buy another VW. But I'm not going to try to convince anyone that VWs are more reliable than Toyotas, because they're not. The sound of the door closing does not tell you how easy to work on, or how reliable a vehicle is.
  4. Just close the door on a Mercedes or VW, you'll see it. In reality, they both suck to work on, and neither are very reliable.
  5. Well I know the a/c has gone out on his trailblazer and so he had to wire in a switch to get it working again. I'm not sure what happened, maybe the control unit went out, but I think he bypassed it with a toggle switch. His Malibu had a ton of squeeks and rattles. He's been doing auto body for over 30 years, and he said Toyotas are much better designed and easier to work on.
  6. It's correct if you adjust for DSR. 23 days in 09, and 25 in 08. 39000/23=1695 per day in 09 and 45000/25=1800 per day in 08 34000/23=1478 per day in 09 and 31000/25=1240 per day in 08
  7. I don't understand why you consider that cheating. Every automaker should report the % based on DSR not actual. It gives a more accurate picture on how many cars they sell if given the same amount of time as the year before.
  8. My dad is actually considering buying a Toyota. He told me he's losing his patience with Chevy, he didn't go into details, but he has always been a Chevy man. He likes how easy to work on Toyotas are. He does auto body for a living, and said he wouldn't mind if all he worked on were Toyotas because they are so easy. Up until recently he wouldn't consider buying a car from anyone but the big 3.
  9. I think Camino's point is that everytime an article is posted about Pontiac, it doesn't do any good for the same 5 members to post Excitement!!!!!!!! or fleet jokes, or remind everyone else that Pontiac was full of rebadged Chevys. I'm sure people would get annoyed if every new thread about a Cobalt, Aveo, Malibu, Impala, I came in and reminded everyone that they are just going to be fleeted anyway. It was just posted on another thread that Chevy has higher fleet % than Pontiac for at least the past 3 years. Yet everytime someone says something about Pontiac, we are reminded how they are fleet queens.
  10. Except, ever since the invention of the automobile, when they made 3hp cars, they were working on making 4hp cars. You think it's just a recent trend that people like power in their cars? I'm sure you think it would be a great idea to put a governor on every car so they can't go above 75mph right? So you never shot down Scion before it was launched right? You must be an expert because you sold Chevys. Every Chevy to you is great, and every non-American vehicle is a POS. Just because everyone doesn't agree with you that doesn't make everyone wrong. I'm sure the Aveo is a much better car than the Fiesta(sarcasm). The Aveo is probably dead last in it's segment now, and you think it is going to be better than the Fiesta?
  11. I have to agree with you here. The Spark is so badly proportioned it makes a Yaris look good. Some of them will sell, to people who really don't care what their car looks like as long as they get the lowest price, but it will not be a hit.
  12. But that also shows the mass market also wants powerful engines. It's not enthusiasts getting automakers to put 270hp engines in the Camry, it's the mass market, or at least a portion of the mass market. Enthusiasts don't buy Camrys.
  13. People may not need CTS-V 0-60 times, but the majority also do not want 10 sec 0-60 times either. Are you saying car magazines are convincing non-enthusiasts to spend more money to get a more powerful engine, even though they don't care about a bigger engine? Don't you think some of those people may drive it and feel that there's not enough power, regardless of what a magazine says? If enthusiasts had so much power to control the market, why are there 10 FWD cars to every RWD car?
  14. Exactly. That's why that article where GM said Pontiac doesn't make money was BS. GM could make it show whatever they want it to show to make their core brands look better.
  15. If I am going to get a GM vehicle, it will either be Alpha, or Holden if PCS is able to get them sold here.
  16. Yes, people like me who have said I would buy a Porsche, BMW, or Audi, and owned a Pontiac GTO. None of us ever said G5s were being cross shopped with the 335i.
  17. And no one ever said G3s G5s and G6s aren't cross shopped with Aveos Cobalts and Malibus. But I doubt the G8 was being cross shopped with the Impala. I bet all that was left in October was G3s G5s and G6s, and the G8s and Solstices are probably sold out. So it only makes sense that Chevy would top the list right now.
  18. And everyone wonders why there are dozens of threads complaining about Pontiacs closure? Because every new article that is posted, the first reply is something like the above reply.
  19. If your asking about the Ecoboost, it is 350 at 1500-5250 rpm.
  20. OHV is already being phased out of the V6s, and I feel it's only a matter of time before the same happens with the V8s. The only thing slowing that down is that their OHV V8 engines were more advanced than their OHV V6s. I don't think it will happen immediately, but I do think it will happen. If they OHV layout was really superior, GM would have applied the same LS engine technology to their V6s, and not bothered with the 3.6L and 3.0L V6s.
  21. Well Ford doesn't exactly make the most efficient engines either. Their 5.0L OHV engine was horrible on gas. Our Explorer never got over 14 mpg. A DOHC V8 could share parts and technology with the V6s. While GM says they can use VVT and other technology on their OHV engines, they haven't done it yet. They have with their V6s. They have VVT and DI on multiple DOHC engines now. They wont need to waste the time and money figuring out how to adapt those technologies to OHV engines. And adding those new technologies to OHV might not be as reliable, since no one has done it before. They already spent the time and money developing them for the DOHC V6s. It creates twice as much work. Instead of developing it once and using it on all their engines, they have to develop it twice.
  22. a 4.8L based on the 3.6L in the CTS, with the same hp/l, would have about 405hp. If they made a turbo version based on the 2.0 I4, they could make over 520hp from 4L. I think they would make enough power to make people happy.
  23. Commonality between their DOHC V6s and their DOHC V8s
  24. Yes, that does seem to be forgotten here. People didn't switch to Chevy when Ford started using SOHC and DOHC in their trucks, so I see no reason why Chevy buyers would switch if the same was done at GM. I would like to see V8 engines based on both the ecotec and the 3.6L. That would give it a displacement range between 4-4.8L. And if the ecotec can already support a lot of power, imaging what a V8 based off it could handle.
