  1. Have any news sources followed up with this kid to see where he is at today? Apparently he quit smoking about a year ago... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2035847/Ardi-Rizal-4-started-smoking-aged-2-threatens-dont-buy-toys-Ill-start-again.html
  2. Some of the political blogs had speculated years ago that the election of Obama would trigger a rise in extremist groups around the country, as well as an uptick in mass shootings. Looks like this is playing out, and it's lying fools like Glen Beck and Rush Limbaugh who got blood on their hands for inciting this kind of crap with their misinformation and goofball conspiracy theories.
  3. Did they really think people are that stupid? Come on, even the freaking Pope goes riding around in his pimped out bullet proof Mercedes and doesn't try to hide it.
  4. Is this really the first time military troops have flown home on Delta? I'm finding it really hard to believe this hasn't been happening in the past. Out of all the precautions and safety measures and rules the airlines have in place, wouldn't you think they would have thought to talk to their employees about situations like this already?!
  5. I love shooting on overcast fall days. You can really pick up the dense saturated colors of the leaves and other elements in the shot when you are shooting under diffused indirect light.
  6. The bulk of what "you are paying for illegals" is actually driven by the hospital's ridiculous, inconsistent, and unregulated pricing structures. The hospitals charge whatever they want and insanely over inflate all their prices for everything. They will do stupid stuff like charge $30 for the paper cup your medication was administered in. This all adds up to astronomically high medical bills that people simply cannot pay if they are uninsured. If the bills were more reasonable, they could perhaps get into some sort of payment plan, but when they hammer someone with a $40k bill for a couple of days in a hospital (this happened to me personally, when I had a brief gap in insurance when I was between jobs).
  7. This is why I am against home schooling, because when you have really conservative bible thumping parents, those kids stand absolutely no chance of getting a balanced education. They will be indoctrinated with religious BS like the world is flat (Sherri Shepherd from The View still believes this...).
  8. We hardly had any snow here in NE Ohio last winter. I remember sled riding a lot more when I was a kid, now the kids around here are lucky to get a few days of good sled riding snow out of any given year.
  9. Whenever we wanted to see an R-Rated movie in the theater, one of our parents would just go up to the ticket window with us to buy the tickets, then leave while we watched the movie. It was such a stupid policy, not allowing minors into R rated movies. There were times where our parents would drop us off at the movie theater to hang out and watch a couple of movies, we don't need them to chaperon us the whole time.
  10. Have you ever cooked rice or pasta? It boils over. That's just what it does. One second it's fine, the next starch bubbles are everywhere because it erupted like Old Faithful. My main issue with electric is that if you are doing any kind of frying or stir-frying, electric isn't powerful to protect against temperature drops when you add ingredients. Thing is, especially with stir-frying, everything should cook rapidly and not absorb much oil; if you use gas, you still need plenty of BTUs to keep the wok temp up when you add your ingredients so it cooks quickly...otherwise, temps drop, food doesn't cook quickly, and it absorbs a ton of oil. Gross. Even my parents' gas stove couldn't keep up with stir-frying room-temp, sliced veggies properly; once we built the outdoor kitchen and opted for two very powerful side burners with the grill, our equipment was finally sufficient to do any kind of stir-frying. It helps to use a flat bottom stir fry skillet on a conventional stove, instead of a traditional Wok. They get hotter because more of the pan is touching the actual heat source. I've tried regular woks, even with the ring attachment, and they would never get hot enough because the pan was mostly up off of the heat source.
  11. If they don't fully understand how the engines function then they can't really develop meaningful tests to compare them to other engines. If the auto manufacturers are using entirely different methods to conserve energy then the tests aren't apples to apples across brands.
  12. Student loans and college tuition these days are exponentially higher than the ever were when I was in school. Not to mention the starting price on a lot of these cars have gone up as well. You used to be able to get a decent new car for under $20k, now a lot of these same model cars are starting at like $25k+ for just a bare bones model.
  13. I think to some extent people are just making their cars last longer. They are comparing this to 2007 data, which was right around the time gas started going through the roof and a year before the economy completely tanked. Many people have since gone through bankruptcies, lost their homes, lost their retirements, etc... not to mention the value of their houses disappeared. It only makes sense that people aren't trading in their cars every couple of years for a newer model any more.
  14. I won't shop at Whole Foods due to the comments from the CEO regarding minimum wage and health care coverage. He is a greedy fool who has clearly been proven wrong by other businesses such as Costco who do pay their workers fair living wages. Whole Foods is an overpriced grocery store for privileged rich white people to walk around and feel good about themselves in. There is nothing remarkable about the quality of their food, it's just that a majority of it simply carries a much higher price tag. One of the last times I was in one, it was a friday evening and they had some goofball live band in the store playing jazz music. Really? Is this why I'm paying ridiculous prices to shop here, for this crap?
  15. I cannot get the links to open up currently, but I think I know what images you are talking about. If I recall correctly, the images were debunked as not involving time travel. One of the ladies in the picture came forward and explained what had happened. Apparently Motorola was in fact developing something similar to a cell phone back in the 1950's and had given a few of the devices to some people to try out around their building outside. That is what was photographed. The device she was holding was a very real and working precursor to our cell phones, but they were decades off before they would become mainstream. I think the one she was using was more like a walkie talkie.
  16. It's a tremendous waste of time to have to label and enforce all of this. All it clearly does is entice kids to seek out the stuff with labels that are supposed to prohibit them from seeing it. It becomes a challenge to then get a hold of it and watch it. It's counter productive and pointless. I grew up in the 80's when they were constantly trying to censor everything I watched as a kid and I managed to get my hands on it anyhow. I watched every R & X rated horror movie I could get my hands on.
  17. I was kind of surprised that he even knew what that movie was. I'm like 10 years older than him, and I barely remember that movie from my childhood. That is an incredible replica though and it would be neat to see it in person. 28 is a rather young age to be an art director, good for him!
  18. That stuff is no joke either, I used to paint with Cadmium Blue oil paint, and never knew it was toxic to the touch. I thought they meant just don't ingest it. I was painting with it and had it all over my hands and they went numb from it.
  19. I saw a special on these people who go around and play good Samaritan and drop some change in expired parking meters, along with a note on their window encouraging them to do the same. They are basically all ganging together to help everyone avoid getting parking tickets. While it's a noble thing to do, it is rather rude how they are video taping and antagonizing the meter reader in the videos, when he is just doing his job.
  20. I have three tattoos and I am thinking about getting them removed actually. They've gotten all blurry and faded over the years. If you do get those things written, do them in a clear font that will withstand fading and bleeding over time.
  21. For the $400 range, I would probably go with one of the Canon Powershot G or Powershot S cameras. They are both fantastic point and shoot cameras, that have attracted the attention of even professional photographers, to carry around as a spare. They have larger sensors than your standard point and shoots, hence the price tag on them, but they are both very compact and have a magnesium alloy body that is really sturdy. Also they offer a ton of manual controls - just about everything you would find on a DSLR, aside from the detachable lenses.
  22. Well at least they were in the car and not tied to the roof. Seriously though, speaking of small cars, I was pretty surprised at how much room was in the back of the Toyota Prius's. I rode in one for the first time a couple of years ago when traveling and the taxis were using them. I would seriously consider getting one of those if the front was that roomy as well.
  23. Couldn't they get enough from everyone's own sewage? It's sort of an interesting idea perhaps, but it could invite a whole other slew of problems with the transportation of this stuff. It sounds particularly unsanitary.
  24. There have been some creative protests of them as well. I've seen biker groups for example stage stand-ins where they will block off the Westboro Baptist Church members and drown them out, making their protests a moot point.
  25. There were a number of competing technologies coming out in the early 1900's that often involved special cameras that would split the beam of incoming light and project it on to different color exposures, when combined would produce a color image. This kind of looks like one of the two strip processes.
