  1. I find it appealing to have Buick name one of their EVs as Electra. It is a name from their past so its a no brainer for them to use it. But...many folk dont even know its a former Buick name of the past so maybe using Electra could be seen as cliché, tacky and cheesy. Maybe folk that KNOW its a Buick name of the past will also think its cliché, tacky and cheesy. Like it was pointed out though by @Robert Hall, Electra fits Buick's current (yes, pun intended!!!) naming scheme. Buick could make it work if they hired this lovely and very sexy lady to peddle it. Just replace the tri-star logo in the background with the tri-shield and voila! A marketing campaign has been born!!! @balthazar asked what other names we could we dream up of for EV Buicks. I got one! As with Electra, and its related to the Electra, its a Buick name of the past. And as Robert mentioned, put the Ultra tag on it for EV if you wanna!!! With a twist though. Park (Electric) Avenue. The Avenue Avenir Ultra for the really really upscale EV from Buick. Call up Eddy to have the rights to the music and voila! Marketing campaign #2! And Im not joking. Im serious. The Buick Avenue has a nice ring to it for an urban sized EV CUV. For a less serious take. If Buick was to go alphanumeric on us...I think a Buick EMF would rock it! EMF for Electromotive Force and also know as English Motherphoquer! Now wouldnt THAT kick ass???!!! Get the rights to EMF's I get knocked down but I get up again and it could be Buick's battle cry in making a comeback! How can the song NOT bring back Buick from the dead???!!! Lyrics like "Pissing the night away" is almost CERTAIN to hit consumers in the heart with feelz!!! 'Xcept the song is not from EMF... They sang "You're Unbelievable" Oh well, I didnt say I was a marketing genius...

What Im looking at, and find it REALLY interesting: Cadillac, Sept 2021 : $81.9K Mercedes, Sept 2021 : $75.3K I think Cadillac should stop being timid and should start producing and selling today's equivalents of some of those high end concepts we got from them the last 20 years. The hand built, built to order, boutique level Escala halo EV that is about to be launched in the next 2 years is a great way to prove that Cadillac is on its way in re-capturing what they had lost the last 20-40 years. And they shouldnt be afraid to delve into that 1%er luxury market often with limited production run halo EVs. Dream machines is what Cadillac should be offering the public. Run of the mill, down market stuff should be relegated to Chevrolet and Buick...or...Mercedes. Hey, its not as if Mercedes hasnt been on that down-market road in the North American market for the last 20-30 years.

Id like to add to my list: Throttle House Like Savage Geese or anybody else on youtube trying to make a living on testing cars and giving the viewers their opinion on, I find these guys very funny and honest about their revealings. Hagerty with Jason Cammisa or anything else Jason does. I wasnt a big fan of his, nor I am currently a big fan either, but he is entertaining and actually does know a thing or two about cars and I find his anecdotes and his over all car experiences enjoyable to listen to. His Ryan Reynolds-esque way of communicating is great but sometimes too much for me handle. But that is his charisma as to why I find myself clicking on his videos... I want to rant about a youtube channel though. Savage Geese I have listened to these guys often enough and although I dont find them offensive in any way, they are not my go-to car youtubers. But I found it very insulting of them with their Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing video. Enough for me to write them off completely. An innocent statement made by them pissed me the phoque off!!!! They say this statement at least twice in their video and have also wrote it down in their description of the video. 1. Who says high horsepower, RWD cars like muscle cars are dinosaurs? Is this a thing? Folk now think that high horsepower, RWD cars, especially muscle cars are dinosaurs? Since when are high horsepower, RWD cars and muscle cars are a thing of the past? 2. Since when do performance machines need AWD to perform? Since when is AWD considered modern? 2. Did these clowns coin that? To get clicks?   4. 2nd gen F-Bodies, mainly THE Trans Am, but not limited to, are my favorite of the pony cars and the first dream car to me. It happens to be the 1976 Trans Am as that was the first to catch me youngling eye, but later on refining my taste to the 1979 model and then to the 1970-1973. But I gots to say that a 1970 Camaro split bumper is as close to my heart as any 2nd gen Trans Am. That 1979 restomod is just great! I love those updated snowflake wheels. There was a '76 Trans Am with Cragar SS wheels where I lived. I knew the wheels were Cragar SS because in actual fact, the word Cragar SS was on the center cap and it might very well be one of the first words Ive read in my life Big fat wheels in the back and it was raised slightly. The rear window had those sun shade louvers. Beautiful machine!
  5. In my city, the politicians here are switching to EVs for public works vehicles. The subway system here is fully electric anyway. Our subway system NEEDS to be extended although its quite a large network. A couple of new underground stations will be added in the east of the city, but its a very expensive undertaking to expand to the west. BUT...there is an expansion of an electric train above ground in the west that is more akin to our subway system so there is that. Our city busses will eventual be electric. We have a few running around as test beds. It was announced recently that are school busses will go electric. There was a plan to go all EVs with our taxis. The taxis that were based from our airport (which our airport is smack dab in the middle of our city) and our downtown core were electric, but the company was losing money due to the fact that Teslas are expensive to buy. There were other EV models in their line-up, but Teslas at that time, and still now, have the range to be viable taxis. We have discussed transport trucks in the past, you and I. I think we are both in agreement to say that electric tech as of now, does not benefit the transport trucks. So that idea to have long range transport trucks be electric will be an even longer time lapse.... But I do see your view that most cities around the world do not have Montreal's advantage. So therefore I must agree that going after the individual first IS ass-backwards. This is an easy fix actually. EV charging times with the next gen battery tech such as GM's Ultium will be considerably less than what it is now. All we need now is just EV charging stations at every location that we could possibly have them. And...having them in gasoline stations is a GREAT start... But...the private entrepreneur needs to take heed and be a part of the winds of change. In other parts of the world, including Canada, this is NOT an issue. In the US, all we get is just whining about the charging infrastructure and how there is not enough charging stations as its some kind of impossible feat to construct. Elon Musk single handedly, with help of some governments has established a charging network for Tesla owners. He is also trying to colonize Mars so... this should cease as an argument against EVs. Affordable is such an open ended term when the ATP of new US vehicles are at a stone's throw away from entry level EVs that are quite capable of delivering comfortable daily driving duties. No...cheap Chevy Spark priced EVs do not exist in North America. They do exist in China though. And in Europe some what. But I will admit, cheap Chinese shyte is NOT what North America SHOULD be importing or producing. So Ill admit that this needs more planning. But its not a feat that can not be overcome by 2030-2035. VW after all, has surpassed Tesla in the most EVs sold worldwide for 2021. And although I do not know what EV models VW offers the Chinese and European markets, Im willing to bet that most of these EVs sold are not 100 000 dollar dream machines... Im also willing to be that most of these EVs are not even 50 000 dollar 'look at me, Im a green person saving the planet, SJW type vehicles either. Im willing to bet that most of VW's EVs are of the modest kind being sold to everyday peoples. Models that North Americans do not have access to and therefore hard for us to see for realz an EV future. I see the logic fallacy of my "cash for clunkers" proposition earlier with your post here. But...with Covid making every country just print money, is it such a problem for a cash for internal combustion clunkers program? I personally dont think so. In most country's though, this what you have said, is in motion. Its in the US that is lagging. The constant whining but doing nothing is what the REAL problem is. But, not all of what I say is rosey either. Some countries do not have the clean energy to charge the batteries. I know that. Agreed and Agreed No rebuttal there from me.
  6. LOL. Im sorry about that. I was trying to be funny and that post was not supposed to be taken seriously. The sarcasm on my post came off as douchey when I wanted it to come out as funny. The "no buts, ifs or ands" part was not sarcasm though. It was a serious statement. Fair enough with the "when" question. Emission standards have remained pretty static though. Only changing fairly recently but getting more aggressive. Will these recent aggressive standards be rolled back? We will see. Which is the crux of both of our stance. I agree, but I somehow disagree. I have a feeling that a clash for clunkers type of deal will happen to get rid of swath of ICE vehicles. I will agree to a delay in your discussion here. But saying that the internal combustion is going away soon, by the end of THIS decade, is it sooooo wrong if that statement is delayed to add another decade to that prediction? It IS happening is what the MAIN idea of what Im saying. I am not naïve to the fact that there are and will have millions upon millions of ICE vehicles by the time 2030-2035 rolls around. I am also not naïve to the fact that world governments are aware of this and will do their darndest to get rid of them the fastest way possible. California has all kinds of inventive laws trying to stifle engines that do not comply with their emissions standards. GM, Ford and Chrysler have produced crate engines to comply with that to cater to the enormous restoration market in that state. But what we get is restored cars that are to be driven on California roads to ditch their factory engines in favour of corporate crate engines. Homogenization of the restored automobile that has all kinds of wrong and boring to it. And with that being said, this is how I sees how governments will stifle and eliminate the millions of internal combustion engines on our roads and that is how justify my point of view.
  7. Are you suggesting that driving around in ICE vehicles is akin to being addicted and therefore THAT is why some American folk wont give up their V8s for EVs? Because if that is what it is, then sure, It will take 50 years to get Americans off of their black gold addiction and their V8s. Dont tread on me and my V8. You want my V8, come and get it... But the thing is, governments world wide are fighting this in the shade.
  8. They are ENDING production of ICE vehicles... No buts, ifs or ands... There will probably be high fees for ownership of ICE vehicles to DISCOURAGE the sales of both on the production side and on the buyer/ownership side. We already see the fees killing off certain internal combustion engines due to high compliance fines implemented by the governments to stop production of. The Hellcats from Stellantis comes to mind. High emissions standards have already been implemented to curb further production of 3 and 4 and 6 cylinder engines. Even 3 cylinders wont be able to pass these emission standards. President Trump promised a roll back on these emissions and GM was on board. President Trump is no longer president and President Biden succeeds him and kept the emissions standards mostly in place and GM magically is on board again. Which leads us back to this: The PLANET is on BOARD with the ending of the internal combustion engine. The world is not so much of a big place regarding this. Regarding climate change... US politics and political divisions within doesnt get to decide this ending of the internal combustion engine regardless how you and I feels for banning stuff being stupid and accomplishes nothing. In THIS case, through hell and high water, the end of days for ICE is very very near.
  9. And I agree with your last statement of bans not really solving anything(and idiotic). But the reason why Im adamant about my opinion of EVs gaining traction that quickly is because the world is hell bent to change the course of ICE history and bury it 6 feet under as quickly as possible.

Who in power and in charge with massive amounts of money, regardless if that person in charge is from the private sector or public sector, does NOT 'mismanage' money? In the private sector, isnt that called fraud? And there are many forms of financial fraud to boot? Not putting up a fight with you regarding your statement, just philosophically speaking and acknowledging that when it comes to money : And yeah...mismanagement of public monies by different levels of government IS thievery in my honest opinion...
  12. I got the visual!!! Imagine trying to clean out the outside air of a city's downtown core? How long would a HEPA filter last by cleaning out the air for everybody? What about the surfaces? The air might be clean but are the surfaces clean as well? Does a HEPA air filter system clean the surfaces. Surely no bacteria lives on surfaces that we touch in our cars. The dashboard, the steering wheel, the seats we sit our asses on... So much wrong with a marketing campaign focusing on a HEPA air filter system in a damned car. A car???!!! Perhaps one of THE most dirtiest things we touch on a daily basis due to the fact that we dont wash our hands nearly half as much as we should, even during COVID times, eating and having crumbs and coffee spill and sauce from Big Macs fall, or slush during winter, driving around in cities where smog exists and a car is not hermetically sealed. Like not even 1% hermetically sealed... Leave it to the Mercedes fanboi to toot toot toot such a useless marketing bullshyting campaign...
  13. They will have NO choice BUT to buy an EV when all OEMs STOP producing ICE vehicles... What? Folk will refuse to buy new cars and just stick to used ICE vehicles? HA! That is funny! And besides, like I said, urban centers are flirting with banning ICE vehicles in their downtown cores... The fact that OEMs tell us that they will STOP producing ICE vehicles and have ALREADY STOPPED R&D on the internal combustion engine is what we often ignore... We DO however have wishful thinking in that we say stuff like OEMs will backtrack on that idea... But THAT is what is NOT happening as like I said, the PLANET has decided that the internal combustion engine is done for... In 2030 or 2035... (yeah yeah...I said by the end of THIS decade) 99% of the world's OEMs will stop producing ICE vehicles. That is it. No more new internal combustion engined vehicles. By 2035. Finished. Sure, one could buy used, but when mayors of cities will ban them from their urban centers. Dont forget, there will be MORE EV choices. More EV choices than ICE choices by the end of THIS decade. ICE choices WILL dwindle... It was said that FoMoCo forced people to buy the ecoboosted 6 F150 by not producing and having many 5.0 F150s on hand to sell. Just a rumour. But that was the popular thing to say about ecoboosted 6 cylinder sales of the F150 versus the 5.0 F150. And now, the ecoboosted F150 is well accepted???!!! Just a tactic that may be in use... Lets agree to say that we will both see what will happen in 2030-2035 as we both really dont know what will happen...

  15. Never said that we will ONLY see BEVs on the road. Banning of ICE in urban centers is a thing though. Still up for debate what will constitute a ban on. NYC is fliting with this idea I said to reflect that. I kept it general. I used terminology to reflect generalizations. Flirting is such a term that I used. Montreal wants to ban ICE vehicles outright in the downtown core... Especially when it comes to individual countries and further more when it comes to urban centers. Walking back from certain bans but always restricting the internal combustion emissions... World governments DO acknowledge the millions upon millions of ICE vehcles that are GOING to be sold from now until 2030-2035. NOBODY, including myself, is NOT denyiung that. But it seems that you WANT to ignore the ever present RESTRICTIONS that are made AGAINST the internal combustion vehicle. World wide, there WILL be a ban on the internal combustion engine. What seems to me by certain "walk backs" is the most painless way for everybody to cope with an eventual ban of the internal combustion engine. THAT is why there is a walk back. NOT because of the idea that people will rebel against it because people do not want EVs. But because ICE will STILL be present. And you cant just whisk those cars away with a snap of the fingers. But...dont kid yourselves, the SALE OF NEW internal combustion engine vehicles for average joe folks to commute privately will come to an end by THIS decade. And no...Ford and GM and Stellantis and VAG and Mercedes and Volvo and Honda and Toyota and Hyundai motors and all those Chinese makes will NOT walk back on their agendas to quit selling ICE vehicles and that their portfolio will ONLY be EVs. THAT is coming...
  16. Ive got lots of miles on this frame myself. Lots of partying. Lots of alcohol. Weekend alchy if you will. No drugs though! Although alcohol is a drug too. Banged up knees playing sports. Hockey and skiing. Yes, skiing. I dont know how sous-bois is called in English, but its a ski run with trees in the run at the side of the ski hill and Ive wrecked my knee by stopping thanx to a tree... with my knee. Damaging that knee further by getting body checked (playing hockey) and the target was that right knee. Eventually, reconstructive knee surgery was made because there was no ligaments and tendons holding my knee in its socket. Not too mention the hard hard work of doing 70-80-90-100 hour work weeks at the restaurant when the restaurant was at its infancy. But knock on wood, I fell great! Although 50 is right around the corner for me too, I feel like Im, well, maybe not 20, but at max 32. But Im still like a child in my heart!

What both you and Balthy and all who dont want to see the EV change forget to see that the internal combustion engine is being banned and phased out LEGALLY by laws AROUND the planet... It DOES NOT MATTER what the acceptance rate of EVs are in the US of A in 2030 when the WORLD is BANNING the internal combustion engine. Automakers walking back on their EV portfolio? Which ones? The American ones? Ford and GM? Stellantis is headquartered in a place where EVs are universally in agreement that its the way of the future. In a place where the internal combustion engine is universally in agreement has run its course. Stellantis is FORCED not only by WORLD governments to sell ALL EVs, but the company itself NEEDS to do this switch in order to compete as VAG is also a home competitor in this market. And VAG is also a BIG player in the Asian market. And in the Asian market, EVs are also universally in agreement that its the way of the future where the internal combustion engine is also universally in agreement that has run its course. And the Asian market has OEMs that are full on EV as of NOW! Ford and GM are very very small in comparison to the WORLD's automobile manufacturing. This aint the 1950s where Ford and GM owned the world... Ford and GM has since sold off their global partners and simply left some markets. Alone, GM and Ford are still a huge powerhouse. But when faced to fight a GLOBAL shift in EVs, Ford and GM are miniscule... About this shift to EVs and about the internal combustion engine disappearing. ICE may or may NOT be going anywhere anytime soon. There are too many ICE vehicles in circulation for the disappearance of the ICE. BUT... many urban centers (city centers) around the PLANET are flirting with the idea to BAN the ICE. New York City is ONE of these cities... So its not as if this shift in thinking hasnt taken shape in the US of A... And living in Montreal, close to NYC, I havent heard any New Yorker really bitch about this idea as much as I have heard from a longer distance, Alberta Canada and Texas USA how pissed off they are for the switch to EVs... NYC being the BIGGEST, most populous and STILL the most influential city in America...

  21. In honour of National Lampoons Christmas vacation. The year goes by and I always forget that a baby blue Continental is quietly parked slightly out of frame minding its own business until l I see the movie again. I get all giddy looking at it and New Year's Day comes along and I forget the car until... the following year. And the cycle continues... And yeah, Im watching the movie with my wife right now as I type this. I gotta say, its my favorite XMAS movie.
  22. like I said... A used car dealership or a private sale WILL be asking 10 grand for a Camry. Only a blind, Toyoter fool will fork over that money for one. HOWEVER, the dealership on a trade will NEVER buy a used Camry for that much... $10K for a Hybrid Camry with 130-165 k miles? The dealership will offer to buy that car for 5 thousand... And not a penny more. Will probably put it up for sale for $12K... I wont buy it. Balthazar will certainly not buy it. But a blind Toyoter faithful lapdog certainly will. The Camry will fall apart on him the very next day, but the fool will certainly ignore the problems and will praise it. And the reason being is because he had an uncle back in the day 40 years ago in '81 who bought a Chevy and the radio knob fell off and therefore he swore off American cars forever...
