  1. I understand what you're saying, but what does stave vs federal cover when it comes to those roadways? I know we're having a lot of work done to major roads here on the IL side of the Mississippi River right now and it's been a complete mess getting home after work. But, if I remember correctly, our IL state gas tax went up a couple years ago. Surprisingly enough, I did notice more road work after that passed. So hopefully that means the money is actually going where it should.
  2. I'm glad this breakdown was in the article, because this was the first thing I thought of. I didn't think I was paying anywhere close to $250/yr worth of 18.3c gasoline tax, which I'm not, according to those numbers. I can understand the EV tax being slightly higher due to the pretty significant weight different, but this is too much. This proposed tax should probably be cut in half, maybe more, IMO. $100/yr doesn't seem unreasonable.
  3. See, that seems to make a lot more sense because that's only L2 charging. That isn't *all* public charging, that's just all L2 charging. Thank you for this information!
  4. Yes, I know all of this. The statement was the whole area's average rate, which you and I both know is not accurate. His personal rate is similar to mine. I'm at 11c-12c per kW.
  5. No way you guys have had that for a year already?!? It's been that long??? There is no way the average public rate is 25c/kW. This is as believable as taking 30 minutes to fill a tank of gasoline. I've gone through looking for screen shots of the screen for public chargers in the Seattle area and I could only find 36c or 48c/kW. I'm sure some are lower but I do not believe for one second the average is 25c. I will gladly admit to being wrong, but I sure can't find these.
  6. There's also the massive price difference between a brand new EV9 and a 2017 Navigator, probably about $50,000. That's A LOT of miles to cover that gap. This tank that cost $68 to fill from 1/4 tank was last filled up on 4/5. I went a month and $30.75 is way more than I go through in a week, because I don't drive 300 miles in a week.
  7. It's pointless to own an EV if you're paying public charging prices. There's no fuel savings and it still costs a fair amount more to purchase. Of course! I'm all for EVs in the right situation and, to me, the only right situation is having a home charger. I would never consider an EV if I couldn't charge at home. Public rates are far too high. I'm not trying to make some anti-EV post. This was more about David's absurd exaggeration of how long it takes to put gasoline in a vehicle.
  8. Let's see if the video works uploading it like this.. It's an entertaining video! I started the timer just before I turned into the gas station parking lot and turned it off just before I pulled out of the parking lot. The timer also included me adding the fill-up to my app that I record all of my fill-ups and maintenance items. 6 minutes and 30 seconds is nowhere close to whatever absurd number David is always claiming it takes to fill up an ICE vehicle. @G. 9. He's reduced his stake in BYD from 10% to less than 5%. https://fortune.com/asia/2024/07/23/warren-buffett-berkshire-hathaway-cuts-byd-stake-china-ev/
  10. Honestly, that's probably around when I'd buy again, too. I'm in no rush. I'd love a large EV SUV or truck, but I don't have the monies for an R1S, Lightning, Sierra EV or whenever the Scouts show up.
  11. They never would have gotten off the ground if it weren't for the government holding them up.
  12. Ahhh that makes sense. Just get things running and get the "proper" install done when you have time. For some reason, my I completely forgot about the conventional outlets on generators (face palm) and I could only picture them running to a breaker box.
  13. These companies are playing on both sides of the party line. Ford donated more to Harris than Trump. https://www.opensecrets.org/orgs/ford-motor-co/summary?id=D000000182 Same with GM. https://www.opensecrets.org/orgs/general-motors/summary?id=D000000155 Toyota contributed a little more to Trump than Harris. https://www.opensecrets.org/political-action-committees-pacs/toyota-motor-north-america/C00542365/candidate-recipients/2024 Hyundai: https://www.opensecrets.org/orgs/hyundai-motor-co/summary?id=D000042381 This is just fascinating information to me. It's also comical how these companies are trying to play good to either party who wins.
  14. You have a list of auto companies and who they donated to?
  15. Daaaamn, best of luck with everything, bud. We've been hit a couple times pretty bad this year, luckily power loss was limited to only a few hours. We were pretty fortunate because there were areas out of power for days. Smart move to go get a generator ASAP. This is probably a stupid question, but if you were to get one in an emergency situation, like yours, how do you connect it to your house? I thought usually you had stuff ran so you can just plug it in.
  16. Why hold the other auto companies hostage because of the government?
  17. So they're going to wait, knowing prices are going up..? That doesn't exactly make sense.
  18. How do you know they make great products? They don't sell anything here, yet. Spec sheets can be amazing and it still not be a good overall product or it could be unreliable as fck.
  19. I don't know about that. People still have to want to buy a Chinese owned and built vehicle. That's a pretty big sell here unless it were to be vastly cheaper than the competition.
  20. This is super cool. However, I don't think it will actually do very well here. Any of the customizations will eat into the little 150 mile range. The larger battery version, whenever that may come out, would be more ideal. With that being said, this could be a perfect first car for a kid. Low power, two seats in a non-sporty vehicle, not a ton of range. Yeah, I'd buy a used one as a first vehicle for my kid(s).
  21. I will definitely have to look into that movie. I watched a documentary on Enron on Netflix a few years ago. I think it may be this movie, but I don't 100% recall the title, so I'm not sure. That whole situation is incredibly interesting to me and I love to learn more about it.
  22. I'm sure PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP isn't looking to go under with/for them. I couldn't imagine any accounting/auditing firm would be willing to put their life at stake over allowing fraud to happen under their oversight, but there's always a chance. I should clarify. I'm not trying to say they're clean of any wrongdoing. I'm just saying I couldn't imagine a company committing fraud that's comparable to Enron ever again, because of the measures that were put in place BECAUSE of Encon. I guess with David never saying anything positive about Tesla, it would be advantageous for him to continue to trash them while he's trying to short a stock. Buuuuut, it would be really smart of him to bet against the company in which he supposedly believes will fail.
  23. I guess I misunderstood your last comment. To me, your last line made it sound like you'd still take a Terrain Denali over it.
  24. So they have one vehicle that's sliiightly different but still isn't more desirable than a Terrain Denali. Sooooo it's still just a useless brand. Okay, it isn't useless for GM. Everything is paid for and they just charge more than a Chevy for it, so I see their business case. I just don't understand their case as a consumer.
