  1. chrysler is on death watch.
  2. yup - it is all about brand image. BMW has it, Cadillac doesn't. while Cadillac's cars are making progress towards respectability (measured against the market leaders in the luxury automotive segment, as determined by the market/car buying public) their brand appeal, outisde of the hip-hop Escalade, has not.
  3. still 19 months away? ouch.
  4. one of GM's mistakes with the camaro is very simple one. they never should have showed the Camaro concept at NAIAS 2006. it creates a huge perception problem amongst those of us that follow the automotive market on a daily basis. the car won't go into production until 3years later, which seems like eternity. by the time the car hits the street the design will be dated and stale and we shouldn't likely see any major changes for years. by the way, gm does this $h! all the time, show concept cars of future cars way too far in advance of production and then the prod'n car is watered down anyway. the only thing that will remotely keep the camaro kinda fresh is the various special models and paint jobs, and it won;t really be fresh, just a tactic to aritifically keep prices high on some limited production models - (not that that is a bad thing from a business perspective.) i just hope no one to has any false expectations that the camaro is somehow gm's saviour, or that it will outsell the mustang because it won't do either.
  5. guess you don't like the germans, italians, british and people from the south.
  6. isn't GuionM the guy that said the Camaro would be in showrooms in '07 (or was that just Josh?)
  7. i was not suggesting that the G8 competes with the accord nor the camry. but they were mentioned in the thread so i thought i'd make an observation. the point was, you can argue all you want at the pricing of this vehicle and the options and whatever the hell else you want. the reality is that Honda and Toyota sell more vehicles with one model then all of Pontiac combined. that is a pretty pathetic reality.
  8. i suppose. not sure what that has to do with Cadillac though? unless you are suggesting Cadillac should emulate Infiniti.
  9. i didn't make the G8 to accord comparison, it was reg.
  10. and that is self-evident but the meteoric rise in mkt share and public perception of GM by the general public. by you expectation GM should be back to 50% mkt share because changing public perception happens overnight.i think you need read some sociology books about how easy it is to change perception.
  11. i meant less conquest buyers than GM needs, not less as a percentage of total sales.until cadillac has a new flagship sedan that rivals the world's best the do not have the panache and brand appeal to entice buyers. and until the have an alpha car that makes that rivals the 3Series in quality and driveability and makes the brand 'affordable' to the up and comers of the world cadillac is doomed to failure. there is no aspiration car for cts owners to yearn for (whether they buy it or not is irrelevant) and there is no sportier car for folks to actually go out and buy. generally speaking, most folks chopping for 3Series still aren;t looking at a CTS.
  12. i'd say that is a significant bump!let's hope the oct thru dec. figures are as promising.
  13. I agree with that comment. I wasn't trying to link resale value to engine configuration.however, engine configuration is one component that makes up the car as a whole and since the car as a whole can't hold it's value in the market, the engine configuration is a contributing factor at some level. personally, i think the V8 in the CTS-V has a positive impact on the value of the car, (a positive value to ME, not necessarily the market). i think i'd rather have a LS2 with 100k miles on it, instead of a 545 with 100k miles on it.
  14. oh well, then I guess GM can rest easy and get a good night sleep.
  15. i can't cause you didn't post those stats.show me the running monthly totals so i can see the blip of the significant 08 sales. i'm not disagreeing with the success of the 08. but you didn't post enough evidence to support that claim. as i said, i fully expect the 08 to be more successful than the first gen. (btw - however, i'm not convinced that the new buyers will be as many conquest sales from BMW M-B as we all would like.)
  16. except for the fact that to your way of thinking everyone north of the mason-dixon line will be buying the accord cause the G8 does not come AWD. oh, and the excrement accord will probably outsell Pontiac's entire car lineup. and the excrement Camry will outsell the entire Pontiac division.
  17. i'd say your analysis is flawed. and your conclusion premature. there are no facts to split 07 and 08. call me in 3 months. (not that i don;t think the CTS will do well)
  18. have you checked autotrader.com for used CTS-V's and STS-V's? they hold their value like a collander holds water. while that sucks for Cadillac and GM, it is good news for folks that want a screamer of a car but don't want to pay $50k.
  19. sadly, we've been hearing these comments for decades. how many more years do we have to hear the same old crap? it all starts 2years from now? are you kidding me? let's face it. GM will never win over midsize car buyers. never. best they can hope to do is slow down the erosion and hope like hell gas drops back to $2/gallon so people will move to larger cars (Zeta.) we can also hope that they come forward with the NY Auto Show triplets to capitalize on that $5/gal gas that is right around the corner. casue the Aveo can't do it alone.
  20. i think they should do it. the market is already too crowded as it is so losing Chrysler, Dodge, jeep, Jaguar and Land Rover when Cerberus goes bankrupt would help thin things out a bit.
  21. solstice could easily go the chevy impala can take over for G8 enclave - i hear rumours of a cadillac lambda
  22. i'm siding with O.C. on this one the button is in a ridiculous spot. and even having the button is silly if it is just an automatic. if u offer that feature, it should be like the CTS and hit the rev limiter and not change gears on you.
