  1. I'll have to read it. Thanks.

  3. I do take responsibility for my own views. The Catholic school comment is only about the humorous aspect of that experience. Judging from what I've seen happen with my friends, in the situations that were stable, things are better, and in the situations that were never stable, things are worse. The line in the sand is pretty obvious. I only knew of 2 really big families I grew up with in LA...they each had 9 kids...but the dads had corner offices in towers near Figueroa or Flower or Grand downtown. Still, they were essentially reduced to a more middle class existence because of all the kids rather than an upper middle class existence that they would have had with 2 or 3...but, hey, it's cool...they had the wherewithal. Don't need to get laid, satty. Lower quality poon always offers and it's easy to turn down. Higher quality poon requires more maintenance and I don't have the time. Moltie, right on, bring on the sterilization tools.

  5. I guess that's what I'm saying. Too much Catholic school...I think nuclear families are better. Also, some of those docs will do anything for a buck...some of the comments by medical practitioners said it fairly clearly they thought this was beyond normal and ethical practice. We can all guess that the QOL for those 14 kids won't be good.

  8. I was thinking the same thing. With the style of the ITALIA script, some Goth/Guidette type of chick is probably the owner. About stereotypes, they're true 90% of the time and wrong 10% of the time. That's why we have them in the first place -- enough people observe them and then file that information away or comment on it. Just be ready for the 10% exception rate. Back to topic, what an ugly beat-up POS car.

  11. Growing up in LA, there's NO WAY that middle class people who bought a modest home in Woodland Hills, El Segundo or South Pasadena in the 60s or 70s could hold onto that home today. That would be tragic. I do think that Prop 13 is indexed with the general cost of living, though, which could be construed as fair. I don't think it's Prop 13. I think it's the bad spending habits of a bratty teenager that are in evidence - plus spending money on incarceration or social services for those who deliberately underachieve which has no-value-added.

  13. That's right, I was too white to be riding on the Red Line (the subway they got AFTER we moved away) near McArthur park and was, in fact, the only Caucasian in my particular rail car. I'm also probably too dark, or at least ethnic, when I'm in Chico CA, which is apparently where all the Maureen McCormicks have migrated.
  14. Any good recipes on artichoke type dips or salads with heart of palm? I can't cook to save my life but, if I could, this is where I would start. I also like those cream based pasta sauces that have ingredients like asparagus, sun-dried tomatoes, pancetta and artichokes.
  15. Yep, I have seen various exhibits on this topic. Most are running deficits. Of the very populous states, I think Texas was the only one in the black. Incidentally, on a stand-alone basis, California is the 8th largest economy in the world. Also, 12% of the U.S. population lives in California (37 mill. out of 305 mill.) Now, California has a lot of nice things, but NOT ALL of California is nice. Of that, I can assure you.
  16. Still, she started with six and had no husband, nor significant other, around. My parents were aiming for 3 and, after I was born, that wasn't possible. I guess I broke the mold.

  18. Someone at work comes by and says "Hey, did you hear about that lady who had octuplets?" I asked where and they said "So Cal, around Whittier or Bellflower." I Googled this and saw that (1) she already had 6 kids, (2) she is a single mom, and (3) she had to have embryos implanted to pull this off. I read that the latter item on this list is considered very uncool among gynecologists when a family already has a certain number of kids. Unbelievable. This woman has got to be a pimple on California's ass. Just think of the money to pay for the education, health care and possible incarceration of some of these kids downstream. And some people who want just ONE kid, have the income and set-up to raise that kid properly, and have fertility problems will NEVER have that ONE kid.
