LOL what are you smoking. please help to understand what 'honda family hybrid' you are talking about? the insight is a pop can for 2 (and a tight one, not for a family) and the accord hybrid not only had poor performance, it was expensive, got bad mpg, and got cancelled because NO ONE WOULD BUY ONE. oh, i get it. you figured you could cram a kid or two under the hatchback. a little tight sure, as long as timmy doesn't mind NO SEAT BELT NO SEAT And having his face pressed against the glass. "Brace yourself Timmy! there's a bump up ahead!!!!" ford escape hybrid, now there is a legitimate family vehicle.

its fine, the goal of higher mileage, but lets cooperate as 50 states, because it makes it easier to achieve the goals that way.

wow you are a big time pessimist you have no faith in our ability to get things done. its been proven over and over, Americans only gravitate to small cars when forced by finances. By nature they do not like to get small cars.

i would tend to agree with cire. add the solstice on alpha and the g8 sw. GM needs to learn how to do cars like this in volumes of 15-20k. Audi can send over a piddly few a3 and still sell them. In all the world markets and considering all the shared parts, i find it hard to believe that Holden / GM cannot find a way to make 40-50k coupes a year on the line with the other zetas....and send a few here. i think the GTO moniker would be competely appropriate for the high level v8 versions of this car.

2008 Holden Coupe 60 Concept
and the forces against this car -renegade states that enact legislation above and beyond national standards -media which convinces the public that only toyota is a good car and flood the market with soulless asian cars -dealers who would gouge at the first opportunity -a national witch hunt, no, make that global, against cars like this in general compare this car to the pansy accord coupe. for about the same price. yummy i like this car.

WA State considers displacement tax
simple. dont buy new cars. starve states of the sales tax $$$$ on a new rig. drive the old rig, pay the penalty, and pollute like heck and use all the gas you want. have fun in the process!

OHMYGOD GLOOM AND DOOM GLOOM AND DOOM besides, when mpg goes up, so will the price of gas. we are getting charged for gas what exxon thinks we will pay. once price resistance is met, watch it go back down. this is all about exxon etc. maximizing profit. once GWB exits office, watch the price drop too. Heck, right before the election, we will see prices drop so that issue is less in the minds of voters. if exxon figures it can only get 500 bucks a month out of people's pocketbooks before demand suffers, then that is where the price will be (assuming the feds dont add more taxes). If exxon thought they would be able to get 800/mo out of Joe Average's checkbook a month, they would be trying to do that right now. If 1/2 our country starts driving Prius, then heck yeah gas will go up to 6 bucks. maybe more. and families still will not want to have small family cars. small cars work for singles. you won't see family of four driving around in cobalts en masse. they will let their legislators know about it and when votes are threatened, phone calls will be made, and wham prices will moderate to a level that does not break people's backs.

the RDX is already overpriced with a gas turbo 4, i don't see us having to wait for the diesel version to come out to find that out.

its always so easy to awake the sleeping beauty what was this BS i read the other day about CA wanting to circumvent national CAFE laws and institute their own at 44 mpg fleet avg? anyone read (it was either Csere's or Bedard's) the diesel slur campaign editorial in C/G the other day? Between the renegade states (of the supposedly United States) and the predominantly negative auto press, it's no wonder no attempts to solve our energy issues gain any momentum. There are always those devisive forces that set out to ruin everything from having a chance at trying to make a difference. Like the divided and stupid dems, they would be better offer working to find a agreement on what is the best course of action to solve a problem as a team. As opposed to the 'i'm hillary and i'm gonna keep runnin cause i want to' approach. advice to dems, unify your candidates NOW before it gets even more ludicrous.

the solution is to use techonolgy to make what we want to drive more efficient. to drive something you don't want or can't use is wasteful.

no compact is worth 21k. no civic, no mazda 3. except maybe the GTI or mspeed. civic should be a 15k car.

my boss at work says he gets 18-19 in his acadia. so 'your results will vary'. i considered his number solid as fuel economy.gov seems to have sim. figures in some cases. i don't get what people's mileage expectations are. some folks are simply unrealistic in what they expect. i have owned about 6 midsize cars with various engines and trannies and all seem to hit right about at 20 mpg city with the way i drive. the highway mpg is what varies more with engine type. my 89 SHO/stick would be upper 20's consistently on the highway but 20 in town. my 95 tbird v8 was always around 20. my 99 v8 sho was almost always at 20 except occasional 25 on a trip. my 500 is 20 consistently, although i did flirt with 30 on a return trip last fall. the aztek, 20 all the time. my diamantes, 20-21 consistently. 20 is my benchline for the size of car i want. if i want a bigger car i figure i will get less than 20. if i had a compact car i would expect high 20's with mid 30's on trips. no duh a crossover that weights 500-1000 pounds more is going to get mid high teens. what people rarely talk about is how many of these small 4 cylinder vehicles that are like crossovers and such that weigh in the 3400+ range and they struggle to get much better than 20. so to me even several 4 cylinders people seem to buy to save gas, they simply don't in. one vehicle that got good mpg for a crossover was the freestyle with its cvt. people would get 22-23 city and high twenties to low 30's on trips. for a 7 seater, that's not bad.

Edmunds: Pontiac G8 GT vs. Dodge Charger R/T
nah, its primarily the same stigma pontiac had for so long. outageuously cartoonish tacky boy racer thug styling and cheap interior. i am the master for taking crap about what i drive. i am not the only one who thinks the charger is that sort of car. you have heard me say i would buy one if it was a decent deal, though.
-
Edmunds: Pontiac G8 GT vs. Dodge Charger R/T
basically the g8 is classy and purposeful enough to be seen in the company of well to do cars and the charger is a redneck wagon of the highest order. but at a cheap price a v6 charger i would take. NFW i would get a hemi charger when the worlds above g8 is available.

mileage matters when the parent company is self professed eco friendly. Pilots don't get good mpg. Two friends have em, and they both said mileage is in the 16+/- range when they got em. lambdas = that or better. my buddies avalanche, he gets 17.
