  1. Oh, I love Indiana. I really like the people and appreciate everything they have to add. They're just not that high on the education totem pole, where I come from [hehe, well part of my life anyways]. There is a distinct sense of underachieving. That's common at school and as much as I say they are un-enlightened, it's especially true to me regarding ideas for fixing a website. I can imagine the minimalist and underachieving attitude they took towards working on this project, unless it was the AP class. They would take a project like this more seriously. The prepared statement the teacher gave made me groan, it sounded more to me like just another lesson plan, and not something anyone paid particular attention to. I obviously could be very wrong though. I appreciate and agree with you though that leaning from a variety of markets is best. I don't dismiss Indiana as worthless either. I just see through the underachieving attitude many of the students have, and that's it cultivated by lacadaisical school plans and parents who don't push thier students hard enough.
  2. Pontiac Vibe is probably the most popular Pontiac in Los Angeles, at least from what I've seen. I see more of those around than the G6, though that's not saying much, I hardly see any of those. The number of G6's has gone up recently though.
  3. I'm from Indiana. I went to the high school system next to Munster and I went to a high school system in Evanston, IL. Out of the top graduating class, the school in Indiana had around 800 kids. Ten would be attending ivy league schools, a great percentage had no plans to go to school at all, and an even greater percentage would be attending a community college at home. Now, I am not saying there is anything wrong with that last option; I am attending community college, only I am 3000 miles away from home; while a HUGE percentage [I won't pull a number out of my ass, I won't be dishonest to you] back home in IN stayed home. This speaks to thier unadventurous, unwordly, "I've never been anywhere and want to remain in the shadow of my parents", attitude, in general. I grew up there, I should know. The school in Evanston had roughly the same amount of graduees. 100 of the top students were going to Ivy League schools as well as comparable schools on the West Coast. The number of students staying home was significantly less, and there were a much larger number of students staying in the area going to universities as opposed to community colleges. Going to school in Evanston, a peace rally before the war was not uncommon. 9/11 commeerations, committees, volunteers were rampant. Social consciousness and culturally aware people were abound. This was not the case in IN. Before you speak and challenge, recognize that people don't make comments like the one I made of without knowing what I am talking about.
  4. What? what the heck is that website supposed to be good for? Can I win a car through it, that would make me go there. And only then for a brief period of time. I guess I can't judge since I'm not a member. Typical NW Indiana fluff piece, sounds as if IT was written by a high school student. This article gives nothing of merit, aside from promoting the Axis website better than GM has, since this is the first I've heard of it. Munster, IN is not a diverse enough pool to truly represent the consumers of the US, or their desires in cars. They're also not enlightened enough, the students, I mean. It's just a fact of the environment.

  8. damn, more bad news.
  9. I agree. It's still way too early to be talking about pricing, but logic dictates a similar pricing scale to what we've already been shown. Stuffing the 6.1 into the Challenger for 28k effectively makes the 40k SRT Charger and 300 obselete. Besides two-doors, those cars wouldn't offer much more than it. The front looks good. I love how it's retained the Charger's eyes, in a way, and the Dodge grille, again in a way. It's familiar but new, very nice. Overall, these pics show a lot more detail than what was there before, and a better-looking car too. But I'm still not all about it. It looks more like what a real Monte Carlo would compete with, or a new GTO. The Camaro is much sportier and much better looking, imo. However, this is still a cool car, and should have no problem meeting some sales targets. This interior could prove to show a lot of Chrysler's future. Man, do those seats look phenomonal, very comfortable and very nciely designed. the interior still seems to suffer from recent Mopar cues and quality, but it's definitely an improvement. Let's hope for the sake of GM, they are investing as much in design as they are in quality.
  10. what he said. I have to emphasize the fact that many here are attached to a name, including myself. I love Caddy, Corvette, Chevy, Pontiac, Saab, Buick....in that order. So we are loyal to that brand. Trying to think outside of that perspective, from the perspective of people who don't care for GM in particular, or cars in particular, they are not attached to the brand like we are. We HAVE to appeal to them to SURVIVE. This is where branding and appealing vehicles come into play. Branding a Pontiac as a more upscale vehicle and better performing vehicle than say, your average Honda, well that would be a damn HUGE revelation in the industry, and would cause a significant sales spike for them. But you can't just call a brand a spade. You have build up to that, by introducing cars that live up to that brand's purpose. Hence the need for RWD cars. RWD RWD RWD...........hardcore performance in upper versions, more basic performance for those that don't seek hardcore. Great pricing all around, and of utmost importance high quality inside and out. Think modern!

that's a beautiful car you got there, O.C.
  12. I'll go for it. Each division needs a set purpose; a clear and defined set of values to go after and announce thier distinction. Branding is one of the most important determinants of cars of the future, since there are so many brands competing for the same piece of the pie. Convincing the American public that you mean something, and that they are getting something in return for buying your car, beyond just a car or a driving experience, is crucial to the future cars. Mazda has convinced buyers they are a little sportier with style; Nissan has gone a similar route; Toyota has convinced buyers they are the perfect car for a carefree life, everyday; Honda has convinced buyers they offer high tech, sophistication, an environmentally concerned vehicle, with good inoffensive style, and that their cars will always be the best in what is offered; BMW has convinced buyers they are performance vehicles, have cachet, elitist, and you can come back to them and expect the same virtues to remain consistent; Benz is quickly becoming the luxury brand for the masses, that said, they are for people with discriminating tastes, those that want the best tech, and those that want to feel thier car is special; Lexus has imbued similar traits into thier cars as MB, again achieving a status symbol image, and chasing high levels of refinement; Volkswagen has established an image of being high content, slightly elitist cars, with high levels of taste, a conservative but not dispassionate design tone, and having a German engineered quality at a lower price; Dodge will quickly become the maker of aggressive vehicles and usurp the role of Pontiac. It's all about branding. Design and a car's characteristics will become increasingly important as cars reach that Hold Grail of design, where engines get maximum desired power, suspensions handle the way they should, and quality has reached an equilibrium of near perfection. Pontiac is in an extremely bad position thanks to years of unappealing cars that didn't always meet the standards of the competition. The design needs to change for Pontiac......but they've also been saddled with the out of date out of proportion W-body chassis and Pontiac's perrenial cues that have seemingly been worn out by the bad examples. In short, Pontiac of the future needs to look at the best of Pontiac of the past for inspiration. They need to seek a higher ground in the automotive landscape if they are to stay alive and viable. And I'm not talking BMW, I'm talking Mazda and Nissan and VW

  18. If you notice, the other rule gets broken everyday. EDIT: EVEN BY THE MODS The "rule" was instituted because some here couldn't handle thier inflamed opinions being shot down by clearer/more logical minds. This was before. I thought the discussion was going fine [well until that amazing post from none other than Croc] and was free of strong opinion. We were discussing politics, but not really arguing over the fact. I think this rule needs to be revoked. There are plenty of intellectual minds that CAN handle this type of discussion here now, when all I can remember from before were bruised egos and shouting matches. It's silly to have one issue we cannot discuss, besides religion is the real touchy subject and we got through that one just fine in the AFA thread. I think as long as people are not so sensitive to ignorant opinions and resist the temptation to try and change inflamed opinions, then we'll be okay.
  19. they also showed short-sightedness by completely abandoning a segment, and cars, that had life in it still.
  20. thanks for the apt clarification Chris. Beautiful movie moment in our history, that was
  21. I'm saying I'm going to kick your ass
  22. yes, I know, you will see how well I know in January :AH-HA_wink:
  23. I'm glad we could share opinions from both sides without offending anyone or starting a major political battle. I think it's pretty clear this administration has pissed off a lot of people; it's going to be a time changing era where we look back on it in twenty years, no doubt about that. Bush did squeak by last time, but that was Bush. A more moderate with experience like McCain and Guliani will present a tough battle for Democrats. I don't know about Hilary's prospects in this country, nor do I want to turn this into a mud-slinging contest, and this is very off-topic now, but how do we feel for her chances of winning. Certainly her chances are only strengthened by the bad taste this administration continues to leave, but McCain and Guliani each are tough competitors and not to be underestimated. Do we really feel America is ready for women. I think with so many people voting for Bush in the last election, it is clear to me a great part of this country still fears change.
  24. Didn't the Russians name it or something? Ah, Anchorman.....needs to be quoted more often.
  25. This morning, in the first ten minutes I was driving, was a GM lovefest. First I saw a new Monte Carlo coupe, first I've seen (!), it was interesting, better than the current one, though I'd need to see more to judge more accurately. The rear seemed to get fatter to match the new plumper front end. Next the STS V!! At first only the grille differentiated it, but that's common around here, but then the big V emblem from the side lit up, and the wheels were so spectacular looking in perpetual motion. Need to see more of those too. Next was a great looking HHR. Finally an H3. Just an all around GM lovefest within the course of ten minutes.
