Automakers may have completely overestimated how many people want electric cars.
What I've been saying here probably over a year's time now. The numbers aren't adding up. • https://finance.yahoo.com/news/automakers-may-completely-overestimated-many-211928833.html •

GMC News: GMC Considers Whether It Should Do An Electrified Sierra
I don't disagree with your point on the general level of new vehicle prices; you're right. Still, a tangential issue here. But it's not all 'crystal balling'. We do have some pricing history example under our belt with Tesla. Still no promised base price Model 3... jacked prices on the S & X (even as corporate volume rises steadily) - this shows the opposite trend toward passing on any battery cost savings to the consumer. And as I've stated before; once consumers support an ever-increasing take rate for a vehicle priced at $XX (especially when the OEM is straining to fulfill demand), there is zero motivation to lower pricing, regardless of material costs. Look at audi's e-tron- it's sized like the A4 but it's DOUBLE the price. OEMs are automatically going to edge toward 'Tesla-tier' pricing if they can get away with it. Only nissan & Chevrolet seem determined to sell to their customer base/make it affordable.

GMC News: GMC Considers Whether It Should Do An Electrified Sierra
Ahhh- an iPhone is a complicated device with numerous bits & features and new, updated models are intro'd with regularity. Much like automobiles. My point was- battery cost alone is NOT the singular factor setting EV vehicle prices. As OEMs strive for the '10-min charge/ 500 mile/ 0-60 in 1.5 sec' EV, they will continue to cram technologies in, and the pricing -- likely -- will never become competitive with ICE counterparts. Those holding out hopes for a battery cost blow-out at pennies on the dollar showing up in the MSRP are going to be either waiting a long time, or much longer.

SIlverado looks great. The 'blinders' regarding the Ram is every road test/review I've seen has been of the $60K+ Limited (which I'll not argue- is very pretty). The base Ram trucks do not appear any better on the interior than the base Silverado, and the lower trims for both lines are going to be the bulk of sales.- Tesla Dials Backs Production Hours on Model S and X
Only way the 3 is better than the S is that it isn't nearly as expensive (tho it's still not "affordable"). Seems clear to me that cannibalization is going on here.- Random Thoughts Thread

Sick- feel like shit. Going to lay low the next few days. Really low.- Dodge News: Next-Generation Dodge Challenger To Embrace Electrification
Tesla Model S is on the same wheelbase as a Challenger, but weighs 700lbs more. Plus, center of gravity has little to no bearing on acceleration. EV-ing a Demon will very likely make it slower, not quicker. I agree that there is room for both types of motivation. But all the talk about banning IC is nonsense we won't see in our lifetimes. Was reading elsewhere about Tesla & VW, and how VW (and others) may surpass Tesla. It mentioned VW's claim that it would introduce 50 EV models in a short span. Why do journalists just lap PRs up like unvarnished truth?? It's like a kid assuring you Santa Claus is real. VW sold 42,xxx Golfs in 2018. Know how many were the e-Golf? 1,385. I guarantee you VW will back away from their proclamation; they cannot survive the resulting plunging sales volume.- Dodge News: Next-Generation Dodge Challenger To Embrace Electrification

Obviously it gained weight over the original aluminum 4, but as a point of reference- a stock '71 Vega wagon was just over 2200 lbs. - GMC News: GMC Introduces the 2020 Sierra Heavy Duty
