  1. I don't think profit margin is a worry here, but; sure. At this point in history, the Silverado is basically where the full-size Chevy line was in the mid-'60s, a BUNCH of options, powertrains and body styles. The recipe obviously works. Anyone have a link to a full spec on the next gen Silverado? I've seen the PDF ordering guide, but it's an equipment list- it doesn't give dimensions or body styles.
  2. Hard data on the new '19 is not yet in the usual places, via my searching, but early info also showed both the 4.3 V6 and the 3.0 I6 TD will be available. I believe the "6" engines the 6.6, 6.2, 5.3, 4.3, 3.0 and 2.7. I found this singular pic of what appears to be a CC/SB- the lower bodyline extends past the fuel filler door, seemingly indicating the 6.5' bed... but could not find either body configurations or wheelbases for the new generation online anywhere. As arguably convoluted as the front end design of this truck is, for some reason I THINK I really like it.
  3. You said 'short bed' [5.5'], not standard bed, I thought. Just seems silly to get such a short bed truck, but of course I shouldn't speak for everyone. I'm not at all happy there's no crew cab/standard bed 1500!
  4. 'Loud' is relative- no one is advocating decibels so high it causes death. But with many OEMs creating digitized, loud-speaker broadcast 'engine sounds' to warn pedestrians and offer 'audio appeal', the opposite is far closer to the truth- some noise is better than none.   5. Yea- the first 375 KW is .046. I can't complain about the overall bill however; my May22-Jun 22 gas & electric bill was only $138. July-Aug will probably be tween 150-160 w/ the increased A/C. EDIT :: 151.79 for July
  6. No Standard bed/crew cab 1500, it seems. Shame- means the '19 Silverado 1500 is off my list. Also see that for it's HP/TRQ advantage over the 4.3, the 2.7 is down 800 lbs towing capacity vs. the 4.3.
  7. Same article has Morgan Stanley saying $90/barrel in 2020, vs "$400/barrel". Speculation- the futures market out thru 2020 (and beyond) has it priced lower than today- if the bulk of investors thought it was going to explode in price they'd be bidding up. My takeaway from that link is that Gov't standards would be behind this vaguely possible "economic collapse"- what else is new?
  8. Nah- it's a design appreciation thing (we're the same generation... tho I've always appreciated cars outside my generation/ what I was exposed to growing up). By the '70s. Mercs were huge cohesiveless clunks of driftwood; blocky, ugly, veloured-to-death and no appeal. My God: padded vinyl headlight doors! It was the beginning of the brand's demise as a 'second fiddle' to Fords, when just a few years earlier, the first gen Cougar was an upgrade to it's Ford sibling and the Cyclone Spoilers were thick in the musclecar craze. Merc had a great run '39-69 or so... but there's nothing pedestal-worthy after '70.

  14. CARB is an entity within the CA EPA. When they were founded is immaterial, legally. Cadillac doesn't overrule General Motors just because it was founded years before.
  15. How is that odd? circa '53 Pontiac sedan, patina'd, rollin. 'circa '40 IH truck, utility body, dually, heavy patina, chopped cab, getting a ride ona flatbed. Coolest thing I've noted out on the road in 2 or 3 years.
  16. It's not the internet. It's the vehicles. More players now in the market than since the 1930s. EVERYONE has sedans, CUVs, SUVs, full power features, AWD, hybrid/electric, alloy wheels, leather seats, screens, 2.0Lt, 3.0Lt, etc etc etc. There hasn't been a new creature comfort in what feels like decades. A hyundai was a junky, plasticy wheezing generic when a mercedes was a big, brash, powerful loaded car. Now you almost have to read the nameplates to tell them apart. What's to go see? That's exactly why bouncy castles and food trucks are such a crucial element.
  17. I'm thinking the 'plaid cloth in entry Cadillac' is a mistake- I see nothing in the '80-81-82-83 brochures even close to that... but you didn't state a year span. Just doesn't 'ring right' to my recollection. Perhaps you are thinking of the designer Gucci Seville (tho this is pretty far from the image I was getting from your description) :
  18. Anyone who seriously wants to review products needs to get this ingrained in their approach. Just because a particular feature (or in this case; a particular pairing of features) isn't done the exact way the reviewer prefers it, this is NO WAY justifies advocating people lose their jobs over it. A product review needs to take into consideration generalities and averages of the consumer at large, and over-the-top hyperbole causes MANY readers to 'shut down' on the review because right there it unhinges itself from reason. I, for one, can take or leave heated seats. My wife's car has them, I've used them countless times, they're kinda nice (she says she won't have another car without them). I don't want a heated steering wheel in any case, so while I might consider checking the heated seat option box (if offered separately), I'd only be happy to skip the heated wheel. Yet I'd never advocate unemployment (hyperbole) if they were paired together, and that's just me talking to myself.
