Rolls (automotively) has primarily built QUITE pedestrian, run-of-the-mill engines. It is NOT Rolls; this is far above them, engineering-wise. - - - - - I will answer the question here : this is a rare look inside of a Duesenberg I-8. Note the loose SECOND 4-row chain…. to drive the double overhead cams. A 4-row timing chain may be unique in automotive usage. I've never seen an aftermarket hi-po chain that beefy.

Watching Batman & Robin from 1949. The crooks are in a stolen truck & see a car coming toward them, a bone stock 1949 Merc convertible. One crook yells out "It's Batman!' I yell out "How can you tell??" Can't tell you how disappointed I was to see they had no 'Batmobile', even tho earlier comics had this:

My 'race car' is still under construction. I will undoubtedly do some street racing here & there. I do recall being in my (now) brother-in-law's '69 Firebird (PMD 350 with Tri-Power) and lining up against our friend's '74 Camaro 350 and racing from a start on a back country road. We ran 2 or 3 times, and the Camaro just edged the 'bird each one. I don't think BIL had the Tri-P well tuned, but it was a fun night all the same. Back in the day, it was much more about high speed banzai runs rather than straight up dragging. We used to F-ing fly down rural roads over 100 MPH countless times. Buried a 120 MPH speedo so hard the needle dropped out of sight to the right. I haven't seen a car rip by me @ 90-100 in years & years, even on major interstates. No doubt that's a good thing, but when the traffic & the fines were much lighter, it was some crazy fun.

Other than taking a 20 min ride to mortar up some seams in a 2-tread bluestone step, this is the first weekend with no work in a month. What the hell should I do with this windfall of time??

It strikes me not that the health care growth rate is slower than usual, but that it was incessantly pitched at reducing costs. $2500 savings annually per family, IIRC. 'Growth rate' means costs are still escalating; that's not how it was sold at all. Underpromise & over-deliver, not the other way around.

Tho I've done brake line replacements twice, I have no advice here. Didn't have any major issues; did one by myself (bench bleed/ line in mayonnaise jar) and the other I had a helper. The "other" is my '04, so it has ABS and a long chassis; a bunch of unions. I'm about to bleed my '40, maybe something will occur to me during that process.

In WWII, the military separated brothers as a matter of course after the 5 Sullivan siblings all perished when their ship was sunk by a Japanese torpedo. My wife's father and 4 of his siblings all served in WWII. A 6th tried to join but was denied because 5 were already in..., or it was the fact he was married & had a child by '43. A few weeks ago my town did an honorary street naming recognizing their contribution. A nice factor- it was put up right down the street from the family homestead where they grew up (which is also right next door to my house). Regretfully, all these duty bound men have passed and did not get to see the unveiling, tho there was a teeming crowd of children, grandchildren and other family members present, as the 5 brothers had 4 more siblings. GM has been doing this to a slightly-increasing degree for some years now. From the frontal view it looks fine, but I agree it seems counter-intuitive to reduce the front break over angle this severely. It's likely also so GM can foster the 'big truck' image, too.

The first moment I saw the pic I liked it. But after a few moments of study, it is rather chaotic and I'd give the above pic a thumbs down.

Went & visited my grandfather today. He'll be 100 next month. Lives alone, still mowing his own lawn. He's 2 hours away, I wish he lived closer but he refuses to leave his house he's been in since 1948. Still undecided if I want to get to that position in life or not.

'They' tell me I'm not allowed to complain if I have too much work. They never define "too much" tho.
