  1. I agree with Camino- same styles in adjoining rooms give a perception of larger, airier spaces leading into one another... but separated by something (a carpeted hall for EX), non-adjoining rooms are fine in different woods/finishes. I have definitely seen different woods in adjoining rooms tho (in upscale houses). And as Croc said- no more than 2 types per level.

Neat story (that never happens to any of us... namely me), and a fun, tacky car : http://www.the-signal.com/archives/1821/
  3. Would not it have to be set up somewhat differently- more as a lead article and a comment section below it... so it seems more visually separated & 'official' ? Plus, it would need to be a readily- accessible database, as opposed to threads which disappear into the distance as newer ones replace it. Organization, to me, seems a vital component if it is to be used as a database.
  4. >>"I want C&G to be the reference site for car people to learn about the "stovebolt chevy" then kick around and argue about it."<< This will take extensive cross-reference research. I wonder if a sort of 'test run' could be tried with one make... one historically smaller; say like GMC.
  5. More of the same crap :
  6. Playin' roadie for my son's band's show tommorow, and I really should work Sunday. Damn.
  7. How about you buy it off me ?
  8. I have a Arirang lighter stamped with "KOREA" and a risque cartoon. Don't kno the vintage, but it was made there ("inchon tai yang co") I don't collect lighters, so anyone interested, make an offer.

With half of those categories in the negative and actual unemployment somewhere nearing 20%, who is fueling the 33% growth in hotels & restaurants ??
  11. I know the '60s vettes had VIN plates on the steel reinforcement beam under the dash... So this guy had the windshield out and then decided to remove (& lose!) the VIN tag ?? He can definitely get a replacement title... and there is a company that can repro your VIN tag provided you can convince them your case is legit. Did he have any original paperwork for the car ?? Keep us posted...
  12. Yet, in that the story's catalyst is a federal mandate, it involves every other city in the country.
  13. >>"the question of the fiscal efficiency here is very real, regardless how much one blathers on about candle wax & horsesh!t."<< >>"It actually isn't. Only if you fall for journalistic sensationalism."<< >>""while the mixed-case words might be easier to read, the amount of improvement in legibility did not justify the cost."<< I see the NHTSA agreed with my contention : replacing them all regardless of the condition/service life of the signs did NOT justify the cost. Fiscal efficiency, considered at the governmental level, for a nanosecond. Wow. Still, I wonder how much money was lost in those states that did NOT wait until the service life was over and replaced perfectly functional signage starting in 2003 ?? BTW Croc - It's not "falling for journalistic sensationalism" , it's merely the sheer weariness of poor journalism and the long-time exposure to gross governmental inefficiencies.
  14. Questioning the cost-effectivness of a minute change/ debatable "improvement" is NEVER the wrong thing to do if one values responsible tax dollar dispersement. If the signs were replaced AS the others aged to the point of non-servicability, the only thing I would pipe up about would be the font issue. Since the piece reads that they are ALL going to be changed out regardless of condition and at a huge cost, the question of the fiscal efficiency here is very real, regardless how much one blathers on about candle wax & horsesh!t.
  15. What is the specific issue?
  16. The question I always return to is- say small cars offer the same quiet, handling, ride, amenities & features that large cars offer. What, then, beyond physical space, is the draw to large cars? Would achieving that shift be enough to 'justify' large cars continuing? Anyone think the 'think tank' push is just that; to get small cars to be the equal in everything but size/displacement, nudging the populous into smaller & smaller (=more economic) cars ?? I -for one- will not go quietly in such a dark night... To continue along this train of my thought... I also again return to an idea stated before, both by myself & Camino IIRC, that such a shift/ push would nudge the automakers back toward a time where 1 size car (maybe a slightly longer second) is all that's feasible.
  17. Yep, the venerable 216 ! Congrats!! PIC PLEASE !!
  18. Or Pontiac-like! Or Oldsmobile-like! Or Buick-like!
  19. fixed. Local dealer is running radio spots offering $10K off "every hyundai".
  20. I didn't enjoy, I want a refund!
  21. Chrome condition in above shots backs that up, vonveez. Wish it were the same deal around here.
  22. ^ You're not taking it back far enough. In other words; like there's any difference from a design impact standpoint between a --say-- 2005 and 1995.
  23. Nice collection. I like B-60s but would never own one and betray the undying love I harbor for B-59s. For most, the hardcase love affairs fall in either/or camps. I have always liked P-59s, a ex-buddy had one. P-60s aren't bad, but as so low on Pontiac funkiness, I dunno if I would ever go for one. Maybe a nice Bonne coupe... Wonder why the pic-taker spent so much time fuzzin out the backgrounds...
  24. I'm with Camino on the styling issue. I don't care for the eggcrate grillework of the '70-72 Chevy's, but the '68-69 grillework is sublime. And the bodylines ARE great in this generation. Otherwise, I would always lean toward GMC details.
  25. ^Ahhh- then kill the reflective requirement. It amazes me that-say- 60 yrs ago; signs had zero reflectivity & most cars had yellowed 6-volt headlights and it worked. Now we have super-white, LED, halogen/zenon/kyrptonite bulbs in headlights the size of loaf of bread yet we STILL need reflective street signs. It just goes on & on & on. Someday- normal cars will be illuminated like today's cop cars and street signs will be backlit AND broadcast their names thru your car audio... yet it STILL won't be enough.
